In this paper, the power line noise characteristics between conventional ECG measurement system using Ag/AgCl electrodes and capacitive-coupled ECG system using capacitive electrodes are compared by the concept of the effective coupling impedance. For this comparison, it is considered that both two systems include the negative feedback circuit, which is called Driven-Right-Leg in typical ECG system, to reduce the common mode noise. As the result, the negative feedback gain plays an important role in decreasing the effective coupling impedances and increasing the signal-to-noise ratios for the ECG signal and power line interferences to both two systems.

Home healthcare is a common matter of concern to modern people. For the successful home healthcare, unconstrained bio-signal monitoring is important. Previously, unconstrained lavatory typed ECG measurement system was developed. It is enough to measure subject's ECG signal non-intrusively, but not practical because of moist environment of toilet. In this study, capacitive coupled electrode was employed for overcome above disadvantages. ECG was obtained by capacitive coupled electrode and compared with ECGs obtained from conventional Ag/AgCl electrode. Possible motion artifacts were investigated. Experimental results showed that toilet based capacitive coupled ECG signal was measured successfully.

Diastolic blood pressure estimation using only pulse arrival time was not sufficient. To overcome it, arterial stiffness was considered. Several parameters related to information, time, slop information in photoplethysmography signal were chosen and investigated. Five subjects executed Valsalva Maneuver which caused the blood pressure variation. Time from maximum point of first derivative wave to dicrotic notch point in photoplethysmography signal (TDB) was selected as the robust and correlated parameter with blood pressure. Especially, the parameter had correlated with diastolic blood pressure more than systolic blood pressure (R= -0.666 for SBP, R= -0.712 for DBP). It could be useful for blood pressure estimation method which was valid for only systolic blood pressure.

The purpose of this paper is the classification of Spatial-Temporal Image of Plantar pressure (STIP) among normal step and the patients step of Parkinson disease. For this, we created a new image data, STIP, that have information of the change of plantar pressure during heel to toe motion (i.e., contain spatial and temporal information for plantar pressure). To get STIP, the walking of 21 patients with Parkinson disease and 17 age-matched healthy subjects were recorded and analyzed using in-shoe dynamic pressure measuring system with comfort walking. For feature extraction of gait, we applied Principal component analysis (PCA) to STIP and calculated weights of STIP on each principal components. Then, we build hard margin Support Vector Machine (SVM) classifier for gait recognition and test of generalization performance using normalized weights on PCs of STIP. SVM result indicated an overall accuracy of 91.73% by the RBF(Radial Basis Function) kernel function. These results demonstrate considerable potential in applying SVMs in gait classification for many applications.

Biophotonic imaging can be used to characterize tumor growth in animal models. Estimation of the numbers and location of target cells is dependent on accurate segmentation of a target region from the background luminescence of the animal body. Existing software systems extract general regions of interest in complex images but can fail to detect details or faint regions of interest in the presence of higher luminescent activity. Limited work has been published in the analysis of these images. We explore the use of popular medical image segmentation techniques in segmentation of bioluminescence images. The ability of each algorithm in detecting regions of interest is tested using established performance measures. Based on the characteristics of bioluminescence images of animal tumor models, and the performance of the algorithms, we formulate a framework for segmentation techniques best suited for this application.

Many engineering optimization problems can be considered as linear programming problems where the all or sum of the parameters involved are linguistic in nature. These can only be quantified using fuzzy sets. The aim of this paper is to solve fuzzy linear programming problem where the parameters involved are fuzzy numbers with logistic membership functions. To explore the applicability of the present study a numerical example is considered determine monthly production planning and profit of home-textile group. To solve this problem LINGO Software is used.
