Tuberculosis is an infectious disease caused by a bacterium called bacillus mycobacterium tuberculosis. Tuberculosis is spread through coughing and sneezing which affects the lungs of people infected with pulmonary tuberculosis. One of the methods is using the thorax image. However, accuracy without a standard is the problem in this topic. It's caused by the analysis result depend on the ability of the medical experts only. In this study, a Tuberculosis detection program was designed using the k-nearest neighbor classification method and Gray Level Cooccurrence Matrices (GLCM) features as classification input. So that the detection program was expected to be a tool for medical experts who had standardized accuracy. The GLCM features were to input the k-nearest neighbor (kNN) classification which are contrast, correlation, energy, entropy, and homogeneity. The program output was divided into 2 classes namely abnormal (tuberculosis) and normal. The combination of entropy-correlation and entropy-energy-correlation features by an optimal level of accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity showed a value of k=1 that is 92%, 92%, 92%.

In this study, the manganese dioxide (MnO2) nanosheets were successfully embedded onto boron and sulfur co-doped g-C3N4 (CNBS) nanotubes to construct the flower-like core–shell CNBS@MnO2 heterojunction with Z-scheme structure for the enhanced photodegradation of diclofenac (DCF) in the presence of peroxymonosulfate (PMS) and 460-nm visible light. The CNBS@MnO2 provides large specific surface area and reduced interfacial resistance for rapid electron transport. Moreover, the redox cycling of Mn species effectively activates PMS to produce sulfate radicals for DCF photodegradation. The PMS-based photodegradation of DCF over CNBS@MnO2 displays the excellent photodegradation performance after 15 min of irradiation, and the efficiency is highly dependent on initial pH, ion species, and concentrations of PMS and DCF. The CNBS@MnO2 also shows its excellent stability and reusability over ten cycles. Besides, h+, O2●− and SO4●− are the dominantly reactive species for the enhanced degradation of DCF over Z-scheme CNBS@MnO2 heterojunction. The possible reaction mechanism as well as the degradation pathway of DCF over CNBS@MnO2 in the presence of PMS is also proposed. Results clearly highlight the superior photoactivity of Z-scheme CNBS@MnO2 toward micropollutant degradation by PMS activation, which can open an avenue to fabricate the g-C3N4 nanotube@metal oxide structure as an effective activator for water and wastewater purification. © 2022 Elsevier B.V.

Synthesis of auricular prosthesis based on nanoparticle silicone/TiO2 for microtia case

Microtia occurs in about 1 to 10 cases per 10,000 birth rates, affects person’s physical appearance which lead to increased depression and individual anxiety. Solution of microtia is ear prostheses. Silicone rubber (SR) or polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) is as chosen material for ear prosthesis due to its durability, is inert, easy to manipulate, and biocompatibility. SR has disadvantages, such as low tear and tensile strength, inadequate elasticity and degradation of physical, and colour properties over time. The aim of this study is to synthesize and characterize SR / nanoparticles composite TiO2 auricular prosthesis. Composites were obtained by mixing SR with TiO2 nanoparticles with a percentage of 1%, 2%, and 3% (w / w), the casting method was used to obtain ear prostheses and test specimens. The compressive modulus values for the percentage of 0%, 1%, 2%, and 3% respectively were 0.47 MPa; 0.29 MPa; 0.42 MPa; 0.35 MPa and the tensile modulus, respectively were 0.33 MPa; 0.35 MPa; 0.34 MPa; 0.31 MPa. SEM test results showed that the addition of TiO2 nanoparticles at a all percentage experienced agglomeration on a micrometric scale. FTIR test revealed that the occurrence of crosslinks in wave number 1384.71 cm−1 and 1384.54 cm-1. The occurrence of peak shifts in wave numbers containing OH groups indicated some interaction between the polymer matrix and the filler. It can be concluded that there was no percentage addition of TiO2 nanoparticles in mechanical test results that showed the closest value to the control value due to agglomeration.

The dehydration of ethanol into diethyl ether over a SO4/SiO2 catalyst was investigated. The SO4/SiO2 catalysts were prepared by the sulfation method using 1, 2, and 3 M of sulfuric acid (SS1, SS2, and SS3) via hydrothermal treatment. This study is focused on the synthesis of a SO4/SiO2 catalyst with high total acidity that can be subsequently utilized to convert ethanol into diethyl ether. The total acidity test revealed that the sulfation process increased the total acidity of SiO2. The SS2 catalyst (with 2 M sulfuric acid) displayed the highest total acidity of 7.77 mmol/g, whereas the SiO2 total acidity was only 0.11 mmol/g. Meanwhile, the SS3 catalyst (with 3 M sulfuric acid) has a lower total acidity of 7.09 mmol/g due to the distribution of sulfate groups on the surface having reached its optimum condition. The crystallinity and structure of the SS2 catalyst were not affected by the hydrothermal treatment or the sulfate process on silica. Furthermore, The SS2 catalyst characteristics in the presence of sulfate lead to a flaky surface in the morphology and non-uniform particle size. In addition, the surface area and pore volume of the SS2 catalyst decreased (482.56–172.26 m2/g) and (0.297–0.253 cc/g), respectively, because of the presence of sulfate on the silica surface. The SS2 catalyst's pore shape information explains the formation of non-uniform pore sizes and shapes. Finally, the activity and selectivity of SO4/SiO2 catalysts in the conversion of ethanol to diethyl ether yielded the highest ethanol conversion of 70.01% and diethyl ether product of 9.05% from the SS2 catalyst (the catalyst with the highest total acidity). Variations in temperature reaction conditions (175–225 °C) show an optimum reaction temperature to produce diethyl ether at 200 °C (11.36%). © 2023 Elsevier Ltd

Spent coffee grounds (SCGs) are the by-products of the brewing process. There are financial and environmental consequences associated with the production of millions of tons of SCG every year. This research explores the possibility of using SCGs, a significant by-product of the coffee industry, as a useful component in cookie recipes. This study is aimed at evaluating the effects of different SCG inclusion levels (0%, 5%, 10%, and 15%) on the physicochemical, antioxidant, sensory, and volatile characteristics of cookies. The findings demonstrated that SCG-enriched cookies, especially those with a 5%–10% inclusion rate, retained acceptable sensory attributes while demonstrating increased dietary fiber and antioxidant activity. However, greater inclusion levels of SCG (15%) negatively impacted taste and texture. Electronic nose revealed that when the amount of SCG increased, there were discernible changes in the volatile profiles. Our research revealed that when the amount of SCG in baked cookies increased, the L ∗ and b ∗ values gradually and significantly decreased. SCG offers a promising sustainable alternative for functional cookies, with an optimal inclusion level of 5% for broad consumer acceptability. Particle size and encapsulation process improvement should be investigated in future studies to enhance antioxidant stability and sensory acceptance.

Among various natural hazards, those induced by hydrological and meteorological factors have emerged as the most frequent and damaging. India is at the second from the top, after Bangladesh, of flood hazard-affected countries of the world, causing immense damage to life and property every year. The Middle Ganga Plain in the country is one of the most severely affected regions due to the convergence of Himalayan rivers in the Ganga (Ganges) plain. This study focuses on optimizing novel ensemble models to enhance the mapping of flood hazard susceptibility in specific topoclimatic setting, characterized by a low-altitude-range, sub-tropical monsoonal climate, and a riverine floodplain environment of the tectonically active Middle Ganga Plain. This region forms part of the Ganga Foreland Basin prone to frequent floods. We employ a comprehensive flood inventory and twelve selected flood conditioning factors and is the first study that has developed these ensemble models in low relief riverine floodplain environmental setting with high resolution geomorphology as one of the conditioning factors. Four artificial intelligence ensemble models were employed in this work: Logistic Regression-Evidential Belief Function (LR-EBF), Logistic Regression-Frequency Ratio (LR-FR), Multi-Layer Perceptron-Evidential Belief Function (MLP-EBF), and Multi-Layer Perceptron-Frequency Ratio (MLP-FR). Results showed that LR-based ensembles outperformed MLP-based ensembles in the studied topoclimatic setting, with LR-EBF model achieving 87.2% and 84.7% success and prediction rates respectively. Our results reveal consistent performance differences between LR-based ensembles with FR and EBF models across different environmental settings. MLP-based ensembles, particularly with Frequency Ratio, displayed more significant performance variations. While various models and computational tools have been proposed for structure and property analysis of molecules, generating molecules that conform to all desired structures and properties remains a challenge. Here, we introduce a multi-constraint molecular generation large language model, TSMMG, which, akin to a student, incorporates knowledge from various small models and tools, namely, the 'teachers'. To train TSMMG, we construct a large set of text-molecule pairs by extracting molecular knowledge from these 'teachers', enabling it to generate novel molecules that conform to the descriptions through various text prompts. We experimentally show that TSMMG remarkably performs in generating molecules meeting complex, natural language-described property requirements across two-, three-, and four-constraint tasks, with an average molecular validity of over 99% and success ratio of 82.58%, 68.03%, and 67.48%, respectively. The model also exhibits adaptability through zero-shot testing, creating molecules that satisfy combinations of properties that have not been encountered. It can comprehend text inputs with various language styles, extending beyond the confines of outlined prompts, as confirmed through empirical validation. Additionally, the knowledge distillation feature of TSMMG contributes to the continuous enhancement of small models, while the innovative approach to dataset construction effectively addresses the issues of data scarcity and quality, which positions TSMMG as a promising tool in the domains of drug discovery and materials science. This study investigates the preferences and willingness of residents, including local and foreign residents, in the Bali metropolitan area to participate in various waste management initiatives aimed at promoting a circular bioeconomy. Bali, a major tourist center in the Global South, presents unique challenges and opportunities for sustainable waste management. Using a choice experiment framework, we explored preferences for managing paper, food, and garden waste through different scenarios. Scenario 1 focused on collecting and separating waste to support existing infrastructure, Scenario 2 emphasized source reduction and participation, and Scenario 3 integrated a comprehensive circular economy approach. The study reveals significant support for comprehensive waste management practices, with high marginal willingness to participate values for initiatives such as collecting and processing paper waste for energy conversion, independent composting of food waste, and community-based composting of garden waste. These findings highlight the importance of community engagement and tailored strategies in developing sustainable waste management programs. The results provide valuable insights for policymakers and stakeholders to design effective circular bioeconomy policies that enhance local economic self-sufficiency and contribute to sustainable development goals. © 2025 The Authors

The rise in antimicrobial resistance and the consequent ineffectiveness of conventional antibiotics emphasise the need for novel therapeutic strategies. Antisense nucleic acid mimics (NAMs) are emerging as promising precision therapeutic agents, inhibiting specific genes through hybridisation with selected nucleic acid targets. However, delivering NAMs into bacteria remains a significant challenge. This study explores the use of poly(amidoamine) (PAMAM) amphiphilic dendrimers (ADs) as delivery vehicles for NAMs targeting the essential acpP gene in Escherichia coli. Two ADs bearing primary amine or tertiary amine terminals, 1a and 1b, were tested for their ability to permeabilise the bacterial envelope, facilitate NAM internalisation, and enhance NAM-based antibacterial activity. Physicochemical characterisation studies, flow cytometry measurements, fluorescence and electron microscopy imaging, bacterial viability assays, and an in vivo toxicity assessment using a greater wax moth (Galleria mellonella) model were conducted. Both ADs acted as permeabilisers of the bacterial envelope and assisted in NAM internalisation and antibacterial activity. The most effective formulation, 1b combined with the peptide nucleic acid (PNA)-based NAM, achieved an 8 log reduction in viable bacteria, with sustained activity up to 24 h against E. coli. In vivo, the most promising formulations showed no toxicity, with G. mellonella larvae maintaining overall health and no significant mortality detected for up to three days. These findings demonstrate that amphiphilic dendrimers can effectively deliver PNA-based NAMs, highlighting their potential as a novel strategy against antimicrobial-resistant pathogens.
