The full mitogenome ofBothrocara hollandiwas determined by high-throughput sequencing (HTS) platform. The genome was 16,732 bp in length, which included 13 protein-coding genes, 22 tRNAs, two ribosomal RNAs (12S and 16S), and a control region (D-Loop). The overall composition of G + C in the mitogenome was 45.90%, which was lower than A + T contents (54.10%). Except for COX1 (GTG), the other twelve protein-coding genes begin with typical start codon, ATG. The incomplete stop codon (TA − or T–) was identified in five genes, including COXI, COXII, COXIII, ND3, and ND4. The phylogenetic analysis with the currently reported mitogenome sequences showed thatB. hollandiwas most closely related toLycodes tanakae, suggesting that additional mitogenome sequences in genusBothrocaraare required for its clear evolutional relationship.

Introduction: Alzheimer's disease (AD) reports heterogeneity of neuropsychological symptoms misleading the differential diagnosis with other forms of dementia, such as dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB). About 50% of DLB patients are misdiagnosed as AD cases. Likewise, the diagnosis of both diseases is mainly based on clinical characteristics. However, differentiating AD of those with DLB based on neuropsychological symptoms and anatomical and functional brain changes remains challenging. Aim: To establish the main neuropsychological, anatomical, and functional similarities and differences in patients with AD and DLB. Methods: The present study followed the PRISMA guidelines and included studies from the PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Sciences databases, published between January 2000 and July 2022. Results: Forty-one articles were included in this systematic review for critical analysis. Our results suggest that the cognitive key domains to consider in the differential diagnosis are memory, executive function, attention, visuospatial/visuoconstructive skills, and verbal fluency (both semantic and phonological). The stage and severity of both diseases would be essential for differential diagnosis. On the other hand, the anatomical and functional changes suggest a similar atrophy pattern between AD and DLB in the frontal, parietal, temporal, hippocampal, and precuneus regions. Conclusion: The differential diagnosis between AD and DLB is challenging in clinical practice. Effects of whole-body vibration on muscle strength, balance and functional mobility in patients with multiple sclerosis: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a type of degenerative syndrome that causes impaired physical function, decreased walking, imbalance, spasticity, sensory impairment, muscle weakness, fatigue, and demyelination of the central nervous system. The purpose of this review was to critically examine available studies on the efficacy of whole-body vibration (WBV) in patients with MS during rehabilitation training to increase strength, balance, and functional mobility. An organized literature search was performed on databases from various sources, including PubMed, MEDLINE, CINAHL, and EMBASE, to identify relevant randomized clinical trials (RCTs). Eight studies were finally selected based on exclusion and inclusion criteria. Attempts were made to identify factors affecting the improvement in muscle strength, balance, and functional mobility in MS patients as a result of WBV. A meta-analysis was performed if two or more studies measured the same outcome of interest. The meta-analysis found that the WBV intervention showed significant improvement over control groups in Body Balance Score (BBS) (MD = -2.86, 95%CI = -5.29 - 0.43;Z=2.31, p=0.02, heterogeneity (I2=91%). In addition, walking endurance (6MWT) favored control groups over WBV intervention (MD =59.86, 95%CI =20.3- 99.41;Z = 2.97, p=0.003). Timed-Up-and-Go Test (TUG) and Expanded Disability Status Scale (EDSS) (p>0.05) had no significant effect on WBV. Restoration of balance and functional mobility appeared to respond better to WBV with additional exercise protocols compared to WBV alone. Although there is evidence of an overall effect of WBV on strength and some measures of balance and mobility, its impact remains inconclusive. Therefore, more robust RCTs examining exposure to WBV on balance and functional mobility in patients with MS are warranted. © 2020 World Scientific Publishing Company.

Bioprinting is a process based on additive manufacturing that uses biomaterials as the microenvironment for living cells. These materials often referred to as bioinks, are based on cytocompatible hydrogel precursors, which gel in a manner compatible with different bioprinting approaches. Hydrogels are highly hydrated three-dimensional (3D) networks of cross-linked hydrophilic polymer chains and have been widely explored for use as bioactive delivery agents, cell carriers, consumer products, tissue engineering scaffolds and for wound healing. Hydrogels can be tailored for different chemical, electrical, mechanical, and thermal properties and can even be made to conduct electricity. Recent trends in bioink development have focused on incorporating carbon-based nanomaterials, clay nanomaterials, ceramics, fibers, and growth factors to create hybrid and multi-composite hydrogels. The goal of this review paper is to examine the synergies resulting from the combination of these materials. This review will feature recent advances in this field, focusing on bioink developments and bioprinting applications, and the use of natural and synthetic additives that impart unique, novel, or critical functionalities. © 2020 Elsevier B.V.

The complete mitochondrial genome of the Staghorn damselfish,Amblyglyphidodon curacaowas determined by next-generation sequencing (NGS) platform. The circular mitochondrial genome ofA. curacao(16,612 bp) encoded the 13 protein-coding genes, 22 tRNA genes,2rRNA genes, and 2 non-coding regions (origin of light strand replication (OL) and the control region (D-Loop)). All the tRNAs have typical clover-leaf structures except for tRNA-Ser. Phylogenetic analysis based on the currently reported mitochondrial genomes in Pomacentridae showed thatA. curacaowas most closely related toAmphiprion frenatus. The complete mitogenome sequence ofA. curacaowould provide essential genetic information of Pomacentrinae related to them for their scientific management in the coral-reef ecosystem in Indonesian waters.

Environmental pollution of heavy metal(loid)s (HMs) caused adverse impacts, has become one of the emerging concerns and challenges worldwide. Metal(loid)s can pose significant threats to living organisms even when present in trace levels within environmental matrices. Extended exposure to these substances can lead to adverse health consequences in humans. Removing HM-contaminated water and moving toward sustainable development goals (SDGs) is critical. In this mission, biochar has recently gained attention in the environmental sector as a green and alternative material for wastewater removal. This work provides a comprehensive analysis of the remediation of typical HMs by biochars, associated with an understanding of remediation mechanisms, and gives practical solutions for ecologically sustainable. Applying engineered biochar in various fields, especially with nanoscale biochar-aided wastewater treatment approaches, can eliminate hazardous metal(loid) contaminants, highlighting an environmentally friendly and low-cost method. Surface modification of engineered biochar with nanomaterials is a potential strategy that positively influences its sorption capacity to remove contaminants. The research findings highlighted the biochars' ability to adsorb HM ions based on increased specific surface area (SSA), heightened porosity, and forming inner-sphere complexes with oxygen-rich groups. Utilizing biochar modification emerged as a viable approach for addressing lead (Pb), cadmium (Cd), arsenic (As), mercury (Hg), and chromium (Cr) pollution in aqueous environments. Most biochars investigated demonstrated a removal efficiency >90 % (Cd, As, Hg) and can reach an impressive 99 % (Pb and Cr). Furthermore, biochar and advanced engineered applications are also considered alternative solutions based on the circular economy. © 2024 Elsevier B.V.

Singlet oxygen ( O ) has a potent anticancer effect, but photosensitized generation of O is inhibited by tumor hypoxia and limited light penetration depth. Despite the potential of chemodynamic therapy (CDT) to circumvent these issues by exploration of O -producing catalysts, engineering efficient CDT agents is still a formidable challenge since most catalysts require specific pH to function and become inactivated upon chelation by glutathione (GSH). Herein, we present a catalytic microenvironment-tailored nanoreactor (CMTN), constructed by encapsulating MoO catalyst and alkaline sodium carbonate within liposomes, which offers a favorable pH condition for MoO -catalyzed generation of O from H O and protects MoO from GSH chelation owing to the impermeability of liposomal lipid membrane to ions and GSH. H O and O can freely cross the liposomal membrane, allowing CMTN with a built-in NIR-II ratiometric fluorescent O sensor to achieve monitored tumor CDT.

Synthesis and characterization of folic acid-functionalized, doxorubicin-loaded magnetic nanoparticles as drug delivery system for cancer

Cancer is one of the primary causes of death in the world and the prevalence in Indonesia reaches 1,4% per year. One method of the most developed cancer therapies right now is targeting drug delivery. Targeting drug delivery makes it possible for drugs to be delivered directly to the targeted cells and released once they reach the destination. The aim of this research is to develop a nanocarrier using folic acid-functionalized magnetic nanoparticles to improve the effectiveness of antitumor drugs for cancer therapy. The magnetic nanoparticles synthesis method used in this research is chemical synthesis. Chemical materials FeCl3 and FeCl2 are mixed with NH4OH until magnetic nanoparticles appear. The magnetic nanoparticles obtained are then coated using bovine serum albumin, loaded with the drug doxorubicin, and functionalized with folic acid. The characterization methods used are Brine Shrimp Lethal Test (BSLT), X-Ray Diffractometer (XRD), Particle Size Analyzer (PSA), and MTT Assay. The success of drug release test is performed using UV-Vis. The results of this research showed that the magnetic nanoparticles were non-toxic with no impurities, but had not passed the size requirement as a good nanocarrier. Drug release in acidic pH, which is 5.4, had the highest release rate, thus it would be suitable for cancer cells which have lower pH compared to normal cells. Cytotoxicity test using MTT Assay method with murine osteoblastic cell line MC3T3 cells showed quite high cell viability, so it will not affect normal tissues and cells. It can be concluded that folic acid-functionalized, doxorubicin-loaded magnetic nanoparticles have potential to be used as nanocarrier in drug delivery system.

The development of new approach methodologies (NAMs) to replace current in vivo testing for the safety assessment of engineered nanomaterials (ENMs) is hindered by the scarcity of validated experimental data for a broad range of ENMs. We introduce a framework to address this challenge by harnessing the collective expertise of professionals from multiple complementary and related fields (‘wisdom of crowds’ or WoC). By integrating expert insights, we aim to fill data gaps and generate consensus concern scores for diverse ENMs, thereby enhancing the predictive power of nanosafety computational models. Our investigation reveals an alignment between expert opinion and experimental data, providing robust estimations of concern levels. Building upon these findings, we employ predictive machine learning models trained on the newly defined concern scores, ENM descriptors, and gene expression profiles, to quantify potential harm across various toxicity endpoints. These models further revealed key genes potentially involved in underlying toxicity mechanisms. Notably, genes associated with metal ion homeostasis, inflammation, and oxidative stress emerge as predictors of ENM toxicity across diverse endpoints. This study showcases the value of integrating expert knowledge and computational modeling to address the complexity of nanomaterial safety. Our work suggests that this interdisciplinary approach enhances the accuracy and efficiency of safety assessment in the rapidly evolving landscape of nanotechnology. © 2025, The Authors.
