Digital technology is currently a vital medium to influence consumers with diverse behaviours and a high level of sensitivity when purchasing goods and services. The purpose of this study is to analyse the impact of exposure to digital technology and user-generated content on the brand purchase intention of travel packages in the Bali tourism sector. As digital technology changes the way we communicate or convey information to attract consumers, one of the methods used to attract consumers is user-generated content (UGC) to create a more intimate engagement between products, services, and consumers. A total of 200 tourists who bought tour packages were used as respondents using accidental sampling. The results of the study explain that digital technology and user integration center have a significant influence on brand purchase intention, and brand exposure and brand familiarity have a considerable positive influence on brand purchase intention. A different influence is found: brand knowledge and attitude have a negative impact on brand purchase intention. The results of this study can enrich knowledge about the currently developing topic of e-marketing aimed at academics. From a practical perspective, this research can provide marketers with insight into the effectiveness of content as an advertising platform in the travel and tourism industry.

This study proposes an approach to improve sales forecasting accuracy by integrating System Dynamics (SD) modeling with the Random Forest (RF) algorithm. The combination of these two methods offers a promising way to make sales predictions more reliable, especially in uncertain market conditions. Using SD principles within the RF algorithm helps us simulate expected sales growth, gain insights into market dynamics, and make our forecasting model more understandable to stakeholders. This study using synthetic sales data shows that the integrated approach is offered as an open idea and customizable, particularly in scenarios with dynamic growth patterns and feedback effects.

Polymeric membranes used in water purification face challenges due to high-pressure requirements, fouling propensity, and permeability-selectivity trade-offs. Electroconductive membranes (ECMs) can deal with these challenges and have the potential to improve the performance and lifetime of membranes using a low electric potential. In the present work, robust ultrafiltration (UF) ECMs were fabricated using polyether sulfone (PES) and laser-induced graphene (LIG) through the phase inversion process. LIG is a conductive material with electrochemical and catalytic activity fabricated directly on a polymeric substrate with a laser in a chemical-free single-step. The fabricated ECMs were optimized with PES concentration and membrane thickness and can simultaneously perform reduction, precipitation, and filtration. These ECMs have a permeability ranging from 450 to 200 LMH bar-1 with BSA rejection of ~60% and FRR up to ~90%. The electrochemically enhanced Cr(VI) removal reached ~94% by applying a low electrical potential. Furthermore, in the biofouling experiments, the attached live biomass was reduced by ~67% for fabricated ECMs compared to the pristine membrane. The results showed the anti-biofouling potential of fabricated ECMs, which can be further enhanced using their electrochemical activity. These new-generation ECMs have immense potential for dealing with permeability-selectivity trade-offs, enhancing pollutant removal, and antifouling applications with low applied potential. © 2023, The Authors. Under changing environmental conditions, the inclusion of non-stationarity in risk assessment of hydroclimatic extremes provides reliable estimates of quantiles or design levels;however, such assessments are usually limited to univariate analysis. A multivariate non-stationary framework is capable of considering the interdependencies between multiple characteristics of such extreme events. This study offers a new non-stationary multivariate risk assessment framework based on the concepts of Expected Number of Events (ENE) and Expected Waiting Time (EWT) that have worked well in the recent past for return level estimates of univariate extremes under non-stationarity. The proposed framework is first demonstrated on synthetically generated multi-attribute datasets to prove its effectiveness for both increasing and decreasing trends in extremes. Further, real-world applicability of the approach is presented for multivariate non-stationary drought risk assessment in India, where dynamic copulas are used to capture the joint transient behaviour of drought severity and duration. The design severity and duration for any given return period increases (decreases) for positive (negative) trend in drought attributes, implying underestimation (overestimation) of risk by the stationarity approach. Globally, changes in characteristics of hydroclimatic extreme events are increasingly reported, and such changes are likely to be exacerbated by climate change. The proposed framework considers time-varying nature of multiple characteristics for risk assessment of such extremes, and can aide in engineering design and environment management. © 2024, The Authors. How can humans remain in control of artificial intelligence (AI)-based systems designed to perform tasks autonomously? Such systems are increasingly ubiquitous, creating benefits - but also undesirable situations where moral responsibility for their actions cannot be properly attributed to any particular person or group. The concept of meaningful human control has been proposed to address responsibility gaps and mitigate them by establishing conditions that enable a proper attribution of responsibility for humans; however, clear requirements for researchers, designers, and engineers are yet inexistent, making the development of AI-based systems that remain under meaningful human control challenging. In this paper, we address the gap between philosophical theory and engineering practice by identifying, through an iterative process of abductive thinking, four actionable properties for AI-based systems under meaningful human control, which we discuss making use of two applications scenarios: automated vehicles and AI-based hiring. First, a system in which humans and AI algorithms interact should have an explicitly defined domain of morally loaded situations within which the system ought to operate. Second, humans and AI agents within the system should have appropriate and mutually compatible representations. Third, responsibility attributed to a human should be commensurate with that human’s ability and authority to control the system. Fourth, there should be explicit links between the actions of the AI agents and actions of humans who are aware of their moral responsibility. We argue that these four properties will support practically minded professionals to take concrete steps toward designing and engineering for AI systems that facilitate meaningful human control.

This study aimed to evaluate the correlation between nursing informatics(NI)competency and information literacy skills for evidencebased practice(EBP)among intensive care *** cross-sectional study was conducted on 184 nurses working in intensive care units(ICUs).The study data were collected through demographic information,Nursing Informatics Competency Assessment Tool(NICAT),and information literacy skills for EBP *** intensive care nurses received competent and low-moderate levels for the total scores of NI competency and information literacy skills,*** received a moderate score for the use of different information resources but a low score for information searching skills,different search features,and knowledge about search operators,and only 31.5%of the nurses selected the most appropriate *** competency and related subscales had a significant direct bidirectional correlation with information literacy skills for EBP and its subscales(P<0.05).Nurses require a high level of NI competency and information literacy for EBP to obtain up-to-date information and provide better care and *** planners and policymakers should develop interventions to enhance NI competency and information literacy skills among nurses and motivate them to use EBP in clinical settings.

Accurate and precise quantum computation of valence two-neutron systems

Developing methods to solve nuclear many-body problems with quantum computers is an imperative pursuit within the nuclear physics community. Here, we introduce a quantum algorithm to accurately and precisely compute the ground state of valence two-neutron systems leveraging presently available noisy intermediate-scale quantum devices. Our focus lies on the nuclei having a doubly magic core plus two valence neutrons in the p, sd, and pf shells, i.e., He6, O18, and Ca42, respectively. Our ansatz, quantum circuit, is constructed in the pair-wise form, taking into account the symmetries of the system in an explicit manner, and enables us to reduce the number of qubits and the number of CNOT gates required. The results on a real quantum hardware by IBM Quantum Platform show that the proposed method gives very accurate results of the ground-state energies, which are typically within 0.1% error in the energy for He6 and O18 and at most 1% error for Ca42. Furthermore, our experiments using real quantum devices also show the pivotal role of the circuit layout design, attuned to the connectivity of the qubits, in mitigating errors.

Development of Wi-Fi-Based Teleoperation System for Forest Harvester

Purpose: To develop a teleoperation system for forest harvesters using images from the work area. Methods: In a CPE (customer premises equipment) environment, both the control command to operate a forest harvester and images to monitor the work area are transmitted using 5.8 GHz Wi-Fi. The control command is sent to the harvester by wirelessly connecting CAN (controller area network) buses in the harvester and remote control station. The images are sent to the operator through video streaming over Wi-Fi. To evaluate the feasibility of the proposed teleoperation system, the delays for transmitting control commands and images are measured in various environments such as open space, a space with obstacles, and a forest. Results: The total delay comprised the wireless communication delay and the time required to properly format the data for transmission over Wi-Fi. The delay of CAN-to-Ethernet and Ethernet-to-CAN conversion for transmitting CAN bus data and the delay due to the encoding/decoding of transmitted images were 0.213 and 119.457 ms, respectively. The wireless communication delay was maximum 3.506 ms. Provided that the reception sensitivity did not exceed the capability of the receiving antenna, the data loss did not occur. A field test conducted over 350 m on a relatively flat surface showed that the operator could suitably teleoperate all the harvester actuators and functions by using joysticks and switches under video guidance. Conclusion: A teleoperation system was developed for a forest harvester. The system consists of control command transmission and image transmission over Wi-Fi CPE. The delay between the environment recognition by the operator and actuator control was acceptable according to the operator’s assessment and various studies. © 2021, The Korean Society for Agricultural Machinery.

The impact of the regulatory sandbox on the fintech industry, with a discussion on the relation between regulatory sandboxes and open innovation

As the fintech industry grows around the world, regulatory issues continue to be a hot topic within the industry. To overcome regulatory barriers of the fintech industry, regulatory sandboxes have been adopted. The regulatory sandboxes are beneficial to create a fintech ecosystem, but their effectiveness has not been empirically supported. This study aims to find the expected effects of regulatory sandboxes on fintech venture investments empirically. We conducted an analysis using a country-level comparative research method. To analyze it, we selected nine forerunning countries which have initially adopted regulatory sandboxes. For the purpose of validations, a comparative analysis and a regression analysis were conducted. In the results, we found that the adoption of regulatory sandboxes had very positive influences on the growth of the fintech venture investment. The results implied that regulatory sandboxes may play a vital role in increasing the influx of venture capital into the fintech venture ecosystem by removing regulatory uncertainty. The findings of this research contribute to providing the empirical evidences to policy makers in interpretations of the positive impact of regulatory sandboxes. © 2020 by the authors.
