Land is split in to land parcels supported size and ownership. This land parcel is that the lowest unit in local level planning of villages in Indian context. During this research, a study was conducted to reinforce land parcel level Biocapacity using soil and water as parameters at villages of Gudiyattam Block, Vellore District. The Gudiyattam block consists of 44 panchayat villages including Gudiyattam town spatially encompasses an outsized area. Planning for such a large region requires significant resources of manpower, time and technology. Additionally, the enhancement of Biocapacity requires land-parcel level information. With the given time and resources, it's impossible to do that. Therefore, Gudiyattam block has been divided into performance zones. From each performance zone one panchayat village is taken into account for the analysis. This research used available data for a given year and validated the land parcel level planning as a reliable method for enhancement of biocapacity. This method also has the potential to be used with high-resolution satellite imagery to capture crop data periodically and use that as a basis for computing biocapacity at land parcel level. Land parcel level planning enables precision farming with high yields to reinforce biocapacity. This research used current crop data at land parcel level to spot the potential for higher yields to reinforce Biocapacity.

Meeting peak electric demand poses a significant challenge to electric utilities in California. The increased use of residential air conditioning, driven by high summer temperatures, is a primary contributor to peak demand. This paper evaluated strategies for eliminating peak electric demand through the integration of energy efficient building technologies and rooftop photovoltaics (PV). Energy efficiency measures were analyzed using eQUEST to determine their impact on peak demand between 2 and 5pm during the hottest three day period for climate zone 10 based on TMY2 weather data. Rooftop PV were evaluated to determine the orientation required to maximize peak electrical production during the peak period. The combination of energy efficiency measures and rooftop PV resulted in a load curve with zero peak demand between 2 and 5pm. A life-cycle cost analysis indicates that the net present value of a zero peak demand home is negative, based on current electricity tariffs even when rebates and tax credits are included. Changes to electricity tariffs and the move to residential time-of-use meters will potentially make the economics of zero or low peak demand homes more attractive in the near future.

Interdisciplinary knowledge, skills, and values to develop sustainable built environments is critical for today's workforce. Successfully integrating such knowledge in curricula in higher education institutions remains challenging: few evaluation tools exist that can measure interdisciplinary student learning outcomes and when they exist, tools primarily measure student perceptions instead of student learning outcomes. To address this gap in the literature, this research (1) conducted a literature review bridging four disciplines of the built environment at a Tier 1 research university (i.e., planning, interiordesign, construction management, and landscape architecture);(2) developed a diagnostic tool for student learning that can distinguish between disciplinary and interdisciplinary knowledge, skills, and values for sustainable built environments;and (3) used expert verifications and student test runs via pre- and post-diagnostic in selected courses taught cross-disciplinary in a school that houses four accredited programs of sustainable built environments to pilot the tool. The contribution to the body of knowledge with this study is the final diagnostic tool to objectively evaluate disciplinary and interdisciplinary sustainable built environment related student learning in the presented four disciplines. Despite the limited sample size, pre- and post-diagnostic comparisons show that the tool measured improvement in student learning in both disciplinary and interdisciplinary sustainable built environment categories. Finally, the paper provides directions for future research.
