Communication using sound is perhaps a boon in humans. The sounds were made and heard by humans to convey codes in primitive societies. The child’s requirements are recognized by the mother through its sound expressions. Sounds materials are used as a prime means of communication, and also to denote expressions of joy and sorrow, anger, anguish and such other feelings. Apart from humans, beasts and birds also use sounds. The rhythmic music renders enjoyment, the symphony consoles the soul, the sound of joy is splendid and definite sounds are made to indicate win or success. There are several implications to the language of music and sound. So far so good, there are darker sides of the sound too. The aim of the research to determination of outdoor noise quality in two different Auditoriums such as Music Academy, Chennai and TPG Auditorium SRMIST, Kattankulathur, Chengulpet. Objectives: To perform a systematic study about the contribution of architecture and interiordesign researchers in studying the effect of physical environment on mental disorders. Background: Mental disorders are a major health problem worldwide and related to severe distress, functional disabilities, and heavy economical burdens. Studies propose that physical environment design can trigger or reduce mental disorder symptoms. However, there is a lack of knowledge about the extent of architectural design research contribution to all types of mental disorder prevention or intervention. Methods: A team of cross-disciplinary researchers gathered information from peer-reviewed manuscripts about the effect of architectural design on enhancing or reducing mental disorder symptoms. Data were collected from manuscripts published between 2008 and 2020 (research related to the topic became clearer in quality and quantity then). Keywords including architecture, interiordesign, physical environment, and mental disorders were used in the systematic search. Databases were collected using online resources. Numerical data collected from quantitative studies were organized in tables. Results: Our data showed that there were a lot of studies about dementia and autism;few studies about schizophrenia, anxiety, stress-related disorders, and depressive disorders;and no studies about the rest of the mental disorders. General environment followed by housing facility design were the most assessed physical environments for mental disorders. Conclusions: As all mental disorders can have a significant impact on the society, we conclude that architectural studies should focus more on improving or preventing the symptoms of all types of mental disorders through the design of physical environments.

This study examines the contribution of double skin envelope (DSE) to potential energy savings caused by natural ventilation in office buildings. DSE was applied to east and west-facing fa ade in an actual building that had 3 floors. Field measurements were performed for DSE in winter. Result implies that the DSE at west-facing fa ade effectively achieved energy savings when natural ventilation was supplied from cavity to indoor space. The DSE facing east direction was not recommended to achieve better energy saving by natural ventilation due to the comparatively less amount of solar irradiance. Multiple linear regression models were developed to predict the temperature variation in cavities so that effective control logics will be discussed in future study.

Many urban areas are densely populated, often resulting in increases in various types of environmental pollution. Correspondingly, urban acoustic sustainability has become an important concern, especially in urban residential areas. This study aims at systematically examining the urban acoustic sustainability, from three main and typical facets. Firstly, it focuses on people's perception, trying to understand the effects of behaviour/experience in residential areas. Secondly, a series of building life cycle analysis and building acoustic performances are examined in an integrative way, demonstrating that acoustic factors should be combined into the overall environmental sustainability consideration. Finally, a typical kind of renewable energy technique, wind farms, are studied from an acoustic viewpoint, showing that further attention should be paid to noise effects, especially at the planning stage. Overall, whilst the acoustic effects in the overall urban sustainability might not be always straightforward, longterm effects and multi-factors should be considered.
