Since ancient times, the garden design is an expression about nature. Natural view is a kind of metaphysical cognizing which entrenched human thinking, while the garden is a performance state of natural view. It is the philosophy of nature that makes landscape architecture design close to its essence. In this article, it is intended through the differences between the Eastern and Western thinking way to manifest people's different aesthetics thoughts about the nature and the diverse performances in their classical gardens. From a historical perspective, it explains the profound association of nature view with the design of landscape architecture, and also with the contemporary system of nature view and its understanding way. By then it indicates what the landscape architecture designs should do. Nowadays, landscape architects sought to establish a contemporary landscape design transformationfrom landscape aesthetics space design to the nature systemic inducted space design. In the design process, designer must depend on the site itself condition, and with systemic nature concept to read it and treat it. After that, we can gain the basic design logic and achieve a harmony landscape space in the aesthetics and technology united way. © 2011 IEEE.

Landscape themed initiatives, presentations and publications have become regular occurrences in docomomo International and its chapters. A general impression remains that docomomo predominately focusses on architecture, and that there is work to be done to elevate the importance of ‘landscape’, a significant task being to define and clarify the breadth of sites that are characteristic of the modern landscape in a range of contexts, geographically and typologically. While its activities remain modest, the Specialist Committee on Urbanism and Landscape (ISC/U+L) has taken up the role as a point of contact for landscape advice to chapters along with organising themed events. In 2018 the ISC/U+L proceeded to develop a thematic book on designed landscapes of the Modern Movement based on submissions from docomomo chapters. The initiative had several objectives based upon broadening knowledge and appreciation of salient issues to do with modern landscapes worldwide. With the book, docomomo and the ISC/U+L could potentially enhance the presence and visibility of landscapes in the broader field of mid 20th century historical and theoretical research and beyond to heritage and conservation more generally. This paper clarifies — within the context of the evolution of the conservation of landscapes of the Modern Movement and the status of landscape activities in docomomo — the method and process followed to gather the submissions from the chapters. The purpose of this study is to compare characteristics of ‘ Yi San,' a historical drama showing the mid-Joseon period,and of ‘ East of Eden,' a drama showing the 1970s and 1980s of Korea and to analyze spatial and structural features of the sets and the finishing materials used,so that the study can build up data of how to improve economically efficiency and safety of use of finishing materials in planning drama set *** drama sets were found to be designed through research into historical documents,to have the exteriors built by actual architectural techniques and to be structured to show varied perceptions of space by,for example,arranging streets and regulating movement *** surface materials,the set of ‘Yi San' was built in a traditional construction way of wooden buildings,"Ik Gong" and that of ‘ East of Eden' was made with sandwich panels with VP coating and veneer boards with foreign cement tiles in the forty three steel frame structures.

In line with the worldwide movement towards sustainable living, there is a specific requirement for Internet of Things (IoT) technology in environmental management, particularly in tropical regions characterized by high humidity. The overall purpose of this research is to tackle the urgent requirement for energy-efficient comfort in the indoor settings of Malang, Indonesia, where relative humidity frequently exceeds the healthy and comfortable thresholds for individuals. This study aims to develop an Internet of Things (IoT) system that automates exhaust fan operation and controls interior climate, sustainability, and energy efficiency in tropical living spaces. This study employs an interpretive qualitative paradigm and adopts a design thinking perspective. The research was conducted in a three-story boarding home with significantly elevated humidity. Smart IoT-enabled temperature and humidity sensors are fitted in an IoT sensor to monitor the functioning of exhaust fans and regulate environmental factors online. Hence, the data gathered over seven days provided valuable observations regarding the daily variations of two meteorological variables: temperature and humidity. The findings demonstrated a notable disparity in humidity levels between rooms equipped with IoT-enabled exhaust systems and rooms lacking IoT-integrated exhaust systems. Based on the analysis, Room 1.5 consistently maintained the required humidity level with the active IoT system, whereas Room 1.1 had consistently higher humidity levels. Hence, the results of this study demonstrate that IoT-driven ventilation technology can provide substantial assistance in creating more sustainable and comfortable interior settings while effectively reducing humidity.

This paper highlights the recent experiences garnered at the University of Cincinnati during a 3-quarter long capstone design course for structural engineering undergraduate students, working side-by-side with first year MS architecture students. The course was ideated to foster online collaboration among the students from the very start, using advanced videoconferencing and sharing software. The paper describes the challenges that were encountered and showcases the results obtained at the end of the course. architecture and engineering students collaborated from the very initial phases on the "office building of the future", using Autodesk Revit as the common design platform. Engineering students then focused on the structural systems and attempted to analyze and design their structure using CSI ETABS, progressively updating the structural system into the Revit model. The results of the designs are summarized and commented, and some of the issues encountered are described in detail, both dealing with the interactions between architecture and engineering students, and with the interoperability capabilities of the software used. It is envisioned that in the next iteration of the course more engineering specialties will be involved, therefore broadening the scope of the projects, fully leveraging the potential of BIM. © 2010 American Society of Civil Engineers.

This paper presents the third annual iterative outcomes of an innovative university-based space program creating design ideas for astronaut health support and wellbeing during a long duration mission (LDM) for a future inhabited lunar moon base or Mars Mission astronaut transit. University faculties including Built Environment, Industrial design, Engineering, Science, Health, and Medicine are brought together to develop a new understanding of discipline capabilities with the prospect to co-creatively provide new opportunities and inspiration for team-work across fields. This is of key interest to employers of new graduates in space or innovation-based industries where human factors and designing for high quality human-centered outcomes supports career resilience through currency, agility, and focus. The importance of an interdisciplinary approach through positive mindset, cross-field knowledge, and co-creative team actions is integral for continuing space exploration success as evidenced by past and ongoing terrestrial space habitat analog missions and extraordinary International Space Station (ISS) achievements. The altruistic nature of interactions that make the ISS a success on multiple levels across cultural, scientific and humanitarian foundations provide the template for cross-disciplinary inspiration, that leverage synergies, and shared goals unattainable by single fields alone. It is not traditional for disciplines to work so closely together though industry has an expectation for this knowledge. Previously teams of three (2018);five (2019), and now ten undergraduates in 2020 represent team formation. Student numbers across the design for space theme have grown from fifteen, to twenty-five, to forty students in 2020. Now opportunities to respond to the complexities of the project in more detail are presented in addressing the overarching research domains in spatial design, human factors and design for health for LDMs with a new diverse team mass not previous

Assessing the efficacy of adaptive capacity-building strategies in earthquake-prone communities

Despite advances in science and technology enhancing earthquake prediction capabilities, effective management strategies are crucial to mitigate adverse impacts and protect vulnerable communities’ lives and livelihoods. Therefore, developing community-based disaster management strategies that integrate community participation, coordination, and adaptive capacity within disaster organisations is crucial for effective disaster management. This study uses the importance-performance analysis (IPA) method to assess the efficacy of adaptive capacity-building strategies in earthquake-prone communities. The IPA results highlight the significance of adopting a collaborative and community-centred approach to disaster management. Specifically, the study indicates that both urban and suburban residents prioritise establishing community disaster crisis teams and empowerin g non-governmental organisations to enhance preparedness and recovery efforts. Meanwhile, suburban residents emphasise the need for community disaster management structures, along with regular prevention lectures, courses, training, and drills to improve residents’ disaster preparedness and awareness. The collaboration between governments and non- governmental organisations plays a crucial role in strengthening communities’ resilience against disasters. These findings offer valuable insights into theoretical design and decision-making processes for implementing adaptive capacity-building strategies in earthquake-prone communities. © 2024 The Author(s). The rapid proliferation of drone technology has ushered in new opportunities but also presents significant legal and law enforcement challenges. In India, the legal framework, last updated by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) through the Drone Rules, 2021, primarily focuses on civil use of drones, leaving potentialgaps in addressing dronerelated crimes. This paper offers an incisive analysis of these challenges and the gaps in India’s current drone legislation, focusing on criminal activities such as unauthorized surveillance, smuggling, privacy invasion, and trespassing into restricted airspaces. The paper scrutinizes India’s legal readiness to combat drone crimes, identifying potential inadequacies in specific areas including tracking and identification of rogue drones, jurisdictional clarity, technological readiness of law enforcement, regulation of drone import and sales, and drone operator training and awareness. The research further explores global best practices, such as Remote Identification (RID) systems implemented in countries likethe United States and the European Union, and examines their applicability in the Indian context. The goal of this analysis is not onlyto shed light on existing regulatory challenges but also to propose enhancements to the Indian legal framework to better address and mitigate drone-related crimes. The paper concludes with specific recommendations that underline the importance of a technology-informed, multi-pronged approach to update and strengthen India’s legal and enforcement strategies against drone crimes.

A key component of cognitive radio systems is spectrum sensing, which reduces coexistence problems and maximises spectrum efficiency. However, the introduction of multiple situations with distinct characteristics brought about by 5G communication presents problems for spectrum sensing to support a wide range of applications with high performance and flexible implementation. Inspired by these difficulties, a new method with a multi-layer extreme learning machine optimised for bats is presented in this study. This technique makes use of a variety of input vectors, such as channel ID, energy, distance, and received signal intensity, to enhance user categorization and sensing capabilities. Moreover, we compare the proposed method with the state-of-the-art spectrum sensing approaches in order to evaluate its effectiveness in 5G situations, especially in healthcare applications. Evaluation metrics including channel detection probability, sensitivity, and selectivity are carefully examined. The findings unequivocally prove the suggested spectrum sensing approach’s superiority over current methods and highlight its potential for smooth incorporation into a variety of 5G applications. © Bharati Vidyapeeth's Institute of Computer Applications and Management 2024.

The objective of the present study is to explore the impact of acoustical design on children with autism in school classrooms. Empirical research on this topic will provide information on how interior space features and spatial environment characteristics can be used to support the learning and developmental needs of children with autism. Specifically, the connection between repetitive behaviors and ambient noise levels in school classroom environments was observed in four classrooms. The occurrence of repetitive motor movements, repetitive speech, ear covering, hitting, loud vocalizations, blinking, and verbally complaining in relation to decibel levels were analyzed using Noldus Observer XT software. As hypothesized, a correlation between noise levels and frequency of target behaviors was found;that is, as decibel levels increased, several of the observed behaviors occurred with greater frequency. Further empirical testing is necessary to test a causal relationship between increased ambient noise levels and autism-related behaviors, and sensory discomfort as a mediator of that relationship. Findings are applied to the development of classroom design guidelines.
