Analysis of the Urban Renewal Strategies with Fuzzy Delphi Approach

Currently, the old houses more than 30 years are exceed 4.5 million in Taiwan. If it does not accelerate urban renewal and reconstruction, it will reach 6.4 million in ten years. 'Urban renewal is not a goal, it is a tool'. J. Q. Wilson mentioned it by his book named Urban Renewal in 1996. Since 2007, government promote renewal works energetically by the means of additional building bulk and tax reduce to achieve the fallowing goal: promote a well-planned urban land redevelopment, revitalize urban functions, improve urban living environments, and to increase public interest. In addition, the inability to implement various supporting measures have made urban renewal very difficult. In particular, urban renewal adopt the 'Joint Construction Agreement'. Consequently, this study proceeds to explore the main factors that affect urban renewal for joint construction agreement. Through the evaluation model and expert groups giving fuzzy values, access the relative importance of each factors by using Fuzzy Delphi method. The study found the critical factor and propose strategies for urban renewal development in the future to improve the quality and quantity of urban renewal.

The research examines the function, design principles, and physical features of the lounges of open-plan offices and presents them through the lounge designs of the Budapest office building of a multinational company. The design developed from the questionnaire, which was evaluated by descriptive statistical analysis and used in the concept development process. The design sought answers to the problems arising from the open-plan office design, without any changes in the workspace though. The predesign study was not limited to the lounge spaces. The project also required an analysis of the overall office design to make out the deficiencies and needs. The new lounge design provides better working conditions even with the workspaces untouched. The design aims to create dedicated spaces where activities that reduce work performance can be relocated from the office space, thus reducing the load on the space. The research aims to develop a system of criteria and planning methodology - based on the results of a workspace questionnaire - that contributes to increasing employee comfort and work efficiency. The results of the questionnaire revealed that those working in the open-plan offices were primarily disturbed by the noisy work environment, congestion and lack of private space - these factors determined the function selection and design of the lounges. © 2020 WITPress. Soft Skills versus Hard Skills: Practitioners' Perspectives on interior design Interns

interior design, like other applied disciplines, has a clear career cycle requiring education and professional experience before becoming eligible for examination. Internships are often encouraged in academic curriculums for increased career placement and enhancement of student learning outcomes;they also serve as a benchmark for academic programs to evaluate their curriculum and its relevance to practice. As the design industry rapidly shifts the scope and needs in projects, it becomes more difficult for academic programs to assess practitioners' values as they relate to recent interns and entry-level hires. Using a social constructivist approach, this longitudinal study aims to better understand practitioners' perceptions of soft and hard skill sets necessary for emerging interior design professionals. This study utilizes content analysis to evaluate practitioners' responses (N=260) from 2006 to 2014 through a survey questionnaire that consisted of open-ended questions aimed to evaluate senior-level interior design students' performance during the required 400-hour internship at a mid-sized Southeastern university. The findings showed that soft skills were more often listed as positive attributes where interns performed exceedingly well. Furthermore, soft skills affected the willingness of practitioners to hire interns.

Brian Brooks is Adjunct Associate Professor in the Foundation Art Program and the K-12 Center for Art and Design and Community Engagement Pratt Institute. He is interested in interdisciplinary and cross-cultural education student self-assessment visual thinking and learning and the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning. Keena Suh is Associate Professor in the Interior Design Program at Pratt Institute and an architect with over 20 years of active professional practice in architecture and interior design in New York City ranging from affordable housing to commercial and high-end residential design. Allegra Marino Shmulevsky is Visiting Instructor and Lecturer in the Intensive English Program Pratt Institute. She teaches English language literature writing and research skills to the international student population. Her interests include pedagogy sociolinguistics visual art and how the three intersect. Chris Wynter is Professor in the Foundation Art Program Pratt Institute and a visual artist working in a variety of media. His practice includes studio work for exhibitions as well as private and public-space commissions working with architects interior designers structural engineers and textile designers.

Teachers hope that students will take what they have learned and apply it to other contexts. Teachers also assume that students bring to the classroom, prior learning skills and conceptual understanding that form the foundation of new learning. Educational scholars call this import to and export from different learning experiences "transfer of learning." Perhaps transfer of learning seems like an obvious goal that any faculty member would--and perhaps should--pursue. After all, should students not utilize what they have learned in courses in their subsequent education, careers, and perhaps personal lives? And yet, many faculty members are unaware of what transfer of learning is. Few faculty members are actually trained in best practices for making learning transferable. That students apply what they have learned in one context to new challenges is often assumed but not always documented in research studies. This suggests the need to design curricula to better foster transfer of learning. For the past three years, the authors have explored how they might use a transfer of learning approach to create a better art and design curriculum for their students. Here they share their experience with looking for ways to maximize the potential for learning transfer, focusing on how they expanded their faculty learning community by fostering faculty conversations about transfer.

The hygienic requirements in health facilities, in particular in hospitals, lead in most cases to hard and high reflective surface materials and subsequently to long reverberation times. The noise level is high and the resulting speech intelligibility is low - both indicating poor room acoustics with stress-increasing impacts. In contrast, good room acoustics will help staff members to work more concentrated and with less mistakes and patients will profit from a better prevention, regeneration and healing. Sound absorbers generally reduce reverb and create a comfortable acoustic environment. Additionally, sound absorbers for health facilities and hospitals need to reach the hygienic requirements on cleaning and disinfecting surfaces. This means in general, that surfaces need to be non-porous and smooth to implement the hygienic requirements, however, porous materials like foams are regularly used for sound absorbers. The purpose of the project was to develop a sound absorber that can be disinfected easily and with material that is chemically resistive to the usual disinfecting products. Constructive and acoustical solutions were developed and evaluated to meet the requirements of a high effective sound absorber with an aesthetic non-technical appearance to be used in common patient rooms and for specific applications in health facilities. © Copyright 2017 NCEUB.

THE INDOOR ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY PERFORMANCE OF GREEN LOW-INCOME SINGLE-FAMILY HOUSING

There is little empirical evidence in the literature about the indoor environmental quality performance of residential buildings in general and of social housing in particular. To address this problem, this study used a mixed-method approach to evaluate the indoor environmental quality performance of 17 green low-income single attached family houses in Brandon, Manitoba, Canada. Questionnaires were administered to occupants to assess their snapshot and long-term satisfaction with the indoor environment. In addition, snapshot measurements were carried out to evaluate the indoor environmental quality factors of thermal comfort, indoor air quality, lighting and acoustics. Occupants’ snapshot satisfaction was categorized into two groups (i.e. satisfied/comfortable or dissatisfied/uncomfortable) and compared with snapshot measurements. The results showed the measured IEQ parameters were well below recommended threshold levels. Further, occupants with higher snapshot satisfaction were generally exposed to relatively lower levels of indoor pollutants. A statistically significant difference was found in PM10 level only between the snapshot satisfied and snapshot dissatisfied groups of occupants. Apparent sound transmission classes were below the standard reference value of 50, suggesting potential problems in noise attenuation within different spaces in each apartment and between apartments. The findings of this study could help governments implement green shadowing for public-housing and also renovate existing houses using the same principles.

Peri-urban issues are generated by the problem of uncontrolled increase of settlement land-use that converts and decreases the agriculture and water absorption land-use. Development improvement is needed to support food protection and environment sustainability from urbanization ***-living Rancaekek in Bandung's peri-urban area is a concept which aims to improve the effectiveness of land use by providing multifunctional living space and household food production through hybrid infrastructure. This residence consists of five families living together in a modular housing unit with an area of 21 m2. Each unit supports families with different responsibilities: farming; food processing; capacity building; building and infrastructure management; and special units for external researchers. The analysis in this paper provides evidence that each responsibility requires specific spatial planning and multifunctional furniture that can support various activities, tools, and processes to enable adaptation in limited space. The solution to space utilization is determined through the proposed movement of furniture based on a review of transformable architecture, namely flexibility and functionality of the space being utilized, to maximize functions in a minimum size space. This research requires deeper research and/or experiments on materials, community acceptance, and a more in-depth review of furniture design in accordance with the concept of transformable architecture.

In this paper, we aim to underscore the need for a more nuanced understanding of vaccine non-adopters. As the availability of vaccines does not translate into their de facto adoption—a phenomenon that may be more pronounced amid “Operation Warp Speed”—it is important for public health professionals to thoroughly understand their “customers” (i.e., end users of COVID-19 vaccines) to ensure satisfactory vaccination rates and to safeguard society at large. © 2020
