The aim of this study is to find out effects of speech intelligibility on visual short-term memory performance by testing 34 interiorarchitecture students in three different sound environments. Those sound environments were composed of real office sounds and a speech sample that are mixed to achieve varying STI levels of 'continuous noise', 'masked speech' and 'speech' sound environments [2]. Test procedure had three steps: first questionnaire, computer based short-term memory test and second questionnaire. Results show that there is no significant difference of visual short-term memory performance between varying sound environments, however subjective results derived from questionnaires show that students were distracted most by 'speech' sound environment.
Most highways in the UAE have cars traveling from 80 km/h to 160 km/h. A well-designed vertical axis wind turbine can harness the unused kinetic energy from these cars and convert it into electrical energy. Three diff...

The study aims to analyse the fractal geometry of eight (eight) traditional housing facade planes, which were preserved facade originality and damaged (it is determined regarding window dimensions) in the historic urban centre of Afyonkarahisar. The scope of the study is the concept of fractal in the conceptual framework, fractal geometry and fiction, architectural and fractal fiction, explanation of the traditional Turkish housing definition and formation, determination of building tags in field survey, the box-counting method based on fractal fiction, evaluation of data and findings. The examples in this study have been selected from three-floor, pinnacle, and entrance facades in traditional housing within the "Urban Archeological Site" of the Afyonkarahisar. According to the traditional housing facades defined, the window space remained in its original state, and two different groups were identified, which was damaged originality. Two-dimensional front views of the eight samples in the two groups were drawn vectorially by taking the facade relievo. The fractal fiction between each other was analysed using the "box-counting method". The analysis of traditional housing facades preserved originality or which was damaged;originality was made according to the data obtained.

Buildings and construction account for more than 35% of global final energy use and nearly 40% of energy-related CO2 emissions (Global status report 2017, International Energy Agency for the Global Alliance for Buildings and Construction). Building’s envelope contributes significantly to energy consumption, especially in office buildings which use extensive glazed facades. Building envelope largely includes the various components of external façade such as walls, roof, windows and shading elements. The design of building envelope affects visual and thermal comfort in the adjoining spaces. Failure to meet the thermal and visual comfort requirements in indoor spaces results in occupants depending on mechanical conditioning systems and electrical lighting systems which increases the energy consumption in building. Hence, optimizing the envelope system will contribute largely to the energy savings in a building. This study aims at quantifying the contribution of various envelope components towards the energy optimization of an office building. Building envelope designed for an office occupancy in a warm humid climatic zone has been analysed for its energy performance in terms of various components which include thermal properties of walls, roof and glazing, window-to-wall ratio and shading elements. Analysis has been done by simulating the envelope optimized building design against the base case as prescribed by Energy Conservation Building Code, using an environmental analysis software tool. The results establish the impact of various envelope components on the energy consumption of the building. The findings emphasize the provision of an appropriate shading device as the highest contributor towards achieving the goal of energy efficiency by reducing the solar heat gain. Hence, careful consideration must be given in designing the shading elements in warm humid climatic zone as it can significantly change the performance of other components of an integrated building, na

The Hindu temple is a place where gods may be approached, and divine knowledge discovered. The design of the temple based on the cosmic man, the "vastu purush mandala," allows the experiencing body to be aligned with celestial elements, obtaining harmony with the cosmos. Exploring the sequence and processes of bodily engagement as one progresses from the periphery to the core, the article seeks to apprise designers on the rituals encompassed in worship at a Hindu temple. The article creates a mosaic of hybrid fragments via photographs, drawings, and text to emphasize the intertwining of the bodily and divine.
