Photonic technologies continue to drive the quest for new optical materials with unprecedented responses. A major frontier in this field is the exploration of nonlocal (spatially dispersive) materials, going beyond the local, wavevector-independent assumption traditionally made in optical material modeling. On one end, the growing interest in plasmonic, polaritonic and quantum materials has revealed naturally occurring nonlocalities, emphasizing the need for more accurate models to predict and design their optical responses. This has major implications also for topological, nonreciprocal, and time-varying systems based on these material platforms. Beyond natural materials, artificially structured materials—metamaterials and metasurfaces–can provide even stronger and engineered nonlocal effects, emerging from long-range interactions or multipolar effects. This is a rapidly expanding area in the field of photonic metamaterials, with open frontiers yet to be explored. In the case of metasurfaces, in particular, nonlocality engineering has become a powerful tool for designing strongly wavevector-dependent responses, enabling enhanced wavefront control, spatial compression, multifunctional devices, and wave-based computing. Furthermore, nonlocality and related concepts play a critical role in defining the ultimate limits of what is possible in optics, photonics, and wave physics. This Roadmap aims to survey the most exciting developments in nonlocal photonic materials, highlight new opportunities and open challenges, and chart new pathways that will drive this emerging field forward–toward new scientific discoveries and technological advancements. This working-in-progress paper aims to present a three-dimensional reconstruction using aerial images in different environments. The experiments were conducted with aircraft in both external and internal settings, starting with image acquisition, followed by the application of specific photogrammetry software-both commercial and open-source-and concluding with a qualitative evaluation of the results. © 2024 IEEE.

In this paper we describe a novel clutter cancellation platform based on a two stage approach that combines a feedback guided predictive front-end hybrid clutter canceller with high performance back-end filtering and target detection. The front-end architecture is based on an FPGA implementation of a Kalman filter that predicts target locations in real time and removes the target signals from the incoming data prior to hybrid cancellation. The back-end is user configurable and exploits high performance GPU and multi-core parallel hardware to simultaneously compute multiple clutter suppression and target detection algorithms coupled to an intelligent selection strategy for selecting the most accurate result. These target locations are fed back to the FPGA Kalman filter periodically to update the target predictions.

We demonstrate a nonfaradaic electrochemical impedance spectroscopy measurement of biochemically modified gold plated electrodes using a two-electrode system. The absence of any redox indicator in the impedance measurements provide more precise and accurate characterization of the measured bioanalyte at molecular resolution. An equivalent electrical circuit of the electrodeelectrolyte interface was deduced from the observed impedance data of saline solution at low and high concentrations. The detection of biomolecular interactions was fundamentally correlated to electrical double-layer variation at modified interface. The investigations were done using 20mer deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) strands without any label. Surface modification was performed by creating mixed monolayer of the thiol-modified single-stranded DNA and a spacer thiol (mercaptohexanol) by a two-step self-assembly method. The results clearly distinguish between the noncomplementary and complementary hybridization of DNA, at low frequency region below several hundreds Hertz.

In this paper, a multi-satellite cooperation architecture for satellite-terrestrial communications is studied with the dense constellation of low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites. Moreover, beam hopping (BH) and frequency allocation enable a flexible solution for the non-uniform geographical distribution of communications, which are optimized to improve the performance and avoid interference in satellite-terrestrial communications. The total problem for maximizing the networking throughput and ensuring the delay fairness is decomposed into two sub-problems, in which the deep reinforcement learning is utilized to determine the BH pattern, and the frequency allocation among beams is implemented by the majorization-minimization algorithm. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed method obtains a 13.0% improvement in throughput compared with the original benchmark, while the delay fairness can be ensured by the iterative solution of the two sub-problems. © 2024 IEEE.

Genetic adaptation to external stimuli occurs through the combined action of mutation and selection. A central problem in genetics is to identify loci responsive to specific selective pressures. Over the last two decades, many tests have been proposed to identify genomic signatures of natural selection. However, the power of these tests changes unpredictably from one dataset to another, with no single dominant method. We build upon recent work that connects many of these tests in a common framework, by describing how positive selection strongly impacts the observed site frequency spectrum (SFS). Many of the proposed tests quantify the skew in SFS to predict selection. Here, we show that the skew depends on many parameters, including the selection coefficient, and time since selection. Moreover, for each of the different regimes of positive selection, informative features of the scaled SFS can be learned from simulated data and applied to population-scale variation data. Using support vector machines, we develop a test that is effective over all selection regimes. On simulated datasets, our test outperforms existing ones over the entire parameter space. We apply our test to variation data from Drosophila melanogaster populations adapted to hypoxia, and identify new loci that were missed by previous approaches, but strengthen the role of the Notch pathway in hypoxia tolerance. © 2013 Springer-Verlag.

Currently, the discussion about smart city becomes a trend topic in which the development of the Internet of Thing (IoT) is used in various sectors including in the manufacturing sector where the Indonesian government is intensively increasing the capacity and production quality. The use of IoT in both smart manufacture and smart city become an interesting thing topic for research and the combination of the new technology Blockchain, may proof the reliability of data. Trust, transparent, secure, real time online process as a new phenomenon to merge IoT with Blockchain technology into smart manufacturing technology. However, for maintaining quality and sustainability, required technology governance so the achievement of implementation can be done well. This research uses the method called Systematic Literature Review (SLR) find the Blockchain adoption factors for Smart Manufacturing Technology Governance and the research conducted on several reputable publications. The result found, there are 35 adoption success factors found from the adoption of blockchain technology into smart manufacture industry. The influence of the technology governance process in smart manufacture industry increase sustainability, realtime and accurate decision making for the industry. © 2018 IEEE.

The accumulation lipid from oleaginous microorganisms is recognized as a second generation fuel. Biooil is known to as intracellular product of oily yeast utilizing various carbon substrates and converting different quantities of lipids in the form of triacylglycerols. This second generation fuel can be used to make biodiesel via a transesterification process. This study investigated the morphological characteristics of eight strains of Thai oleaginous yeasts via microscopy and analyzed the fatty acid profiling of yeasts cultured in three carbon sources: glucose, sugar cane molasses and crude glycerol in order to estimate biodiesel properties. To approach this goal, batch fermentations were used to culture eight yeast strains, Rhodosporidium toruloides TISTR 5123, TISTR 5154, TISTR 5149, Yarrowia lipolytica TISTR 5054, TISTR 5151, TISTR 5621, Rhodotorula glutinis TISTR 5159 and Rhodotorula graminis TISTR 5124 for 96 h under 30°C at 250 rpm. Result revealed that eight yeast strains contained significant amounts of fatty acids and lipids and accumulated mainly palmitic acid (C16:0), stearic acid (C18:0), oleic acid (C 18:1) and linoleic acid (C18:2), and they are suitable for the production of biodiesel. Fatty acid productions and profiles indicated that these yeast strains can be potentially used as the triacylglycerols producers for biodiesel production. © 2020 The Authors, published by EDP sciences.

The rapid proliferation of Internet of Things (IoT) devices has posed significant challenges for network resource allocation and management. In this paper, we propose a novel methodology for efficient resource allocation in Software-Defined Networks (SDNs) to meet the unique requirements of IoT applications. Our approach leverages the flexibility and programmability of SDN to dynamically allocate network resources based on the specific needs of IoT devices. Our proposal combines reinforcement learning with dynamic resource allocation, demonstrating its effectiveness in optimizing resource allocation and enhancing network performance. The results highlight the potential of our approach to addressing the resource challenges in SDN-based IoT environments. The proposed method obtains results superior to 30% of throughput in comparison to a traditional resource allocation in SDN to IoT applications. © 2023 University of Split, FESB.
