Twin-T Oscillator Containing Polymer Coated Parallel Plate Capacitor for Sea Water Salinity Sensing

This paper presents the development of a Twin-T oscillator comprising polymer coated parallel plates as a sensor for ocean water salinity *** sensor employs a parallel plate capacitor design, with sea water serving as the medium between plates. Novalac resin and a proprietary commercial polymer (AccufloTW) were investigated as corrosion protective coatings for the copper electrodes of the capacitor. Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) was employed to evaluate corrosion inhibition of polymer coatingin sea water. A detection circuit was designed and simulated using P-spice and then implemented in Printed Circuit Board (PCB). EIS results indicate that Accuflo exhibits better corrosion inhibition in ocean water than Novolac. Further, the use of Twin-T oscillator based detection circuit resulted in enhanced sensitivity and better detection limit. Experiments performed using ocean water samples resulted in oscillator frequency shift of 410 Hertz/power supply unit (Hz/PSU). Oscillator frequency drift was reduced using frequency-to-voltage converters and sensitivity of 10 mV/PSU was achieved.

Node failures in Wireless Sensor Networks composed by static sensor nodes are common due to the nature of the sensor devices and the usually harsh environments in which they are deployed. Node failures can diminish the performance of the network as a whole, thus affecting its functionality in delivering the desired services. For instance, significant regions can become uncovered due to failure of several nearby nodes. This paper reports a study about the use of mobile sensor nodes acting in cooperation with static ones in order to fill gaps created by faulty static nodes. The proposed fault handling mechanism presents alternative policies with pros and cons, depending on the user priorities imposed to the system and the occurrence of failures. A discussion about this topic is presented based on results obtained by simulation of the proposed mechanisms. © 2011 IEEE.

Autism Spectrum Disorder is a pervasive developmental disorder that will affect children in terms of interpersonal communication, social interaction, and imaginative levels in play. Many therapies to help the motor neuron performance is one of them Pretend Play. Pretend Play is a therapy that invites children in playing to demonstrate something else and tell how to use objects that are considered in the child's imagination. However, in the era of highly developed technology, many fields have used the Augmented Reality method as a visualization of various aspects. With this method researchers will present the therapeutic visualization of the block to 3D transportation tool that is useful for strengthening motor nerves and visual strength of the child. The system can run well during marker detection, marker movement, and 3D object display with the accuracy of precision angle and distance between virtual world with real world reach 100% with angle 0 at distance 31 cm and the maximum distance from the marker is 46 cm and the maximum angle is 30. © 2019 Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Multiparent crossovers have been validated their outperformance on several optimization problems. However, there are two issues to be considered - the number of parents and the disruptiveness caused by multiple parents. We present a tabu multiparent genetic algorithm (TMPGA) to address these two issues by integrating tabu search into the mating of multiparent genetic algorithms. TMPGA utilizes the tabu restriction and the aspiration criterion to sift selected parents in consideration of population diversity and selection pressure. Furthermore, the resulting mating validity further adjusts the number of parents participating in a mating. Experiments are conducted with four common test functions. The results indicate that TMPGA can achieve better performance than both two-parent GA and multiparent GA with the diagonal crossover.

Developing a successful dialogue policy for a multi-domain task-oriented dialogue (MDTD) system is a challenging task. Basically, a desirable dialogue policy acts as the decision-making agent who understands the user's intention to provide suitable responses within a short conversation. Furthermore, offering the precise answers to satisfy the user requirements makes the task even more challenging. This paper surveys recent advances in multi-domain task-oriented dialogue policy optimization and summarizes a number of solutions to policy learning. In particular, the case study on the task of travel assistance using the MDTD dataset based on MultiWOZ containing seven different domains is investigated. The dialogue policy optimization methods, categorized into dialogue act level and word level, are systematically presented. Moreover, this paper addresses a number of challenges and difficulties including the user simulator design and the dialogue policy evaluation which need to be resolved to further enhance the robustness and effectiveness in multi-domain dialogue policy representation. © 2023 M. Wireless communication via unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) has drawn a great deal of attention due to its flexibility in establishing line-of-sight (LoS) communications. However, in complex urban and dynamic environments, the movement of UAVs can be blocked by trees and high-rise buildings that obstruct directional paths. This problem can be effectively addressed by employing reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RIS). To achieve this goal, accurate channel estimation in RIS-assisted UAV-enabled wireless communications is crucial. This paper proposes an accurate channel estimation model using long short-term memory (LSTM) for a multi-user RIS-assisted UAV-enabled wireless communications system. Simulation results showed that LSTM can effectively improve the channel estimation performance of RIS-assisted UAV-enabled wireless communications.

This paper analyzes the effect of custom error control schemes on the energy efficiency in Bluetooth sensor networks. The energy efficiency metric considers in just one parameter the energy and reliability constraints of the wireless sensor networks. New packet types are introduced using some error control strategies in the AUX1 packet, such as Hamming and BCH codes, with and without CRC for error detection. Two adaptive techniques are proposed that change the error control strategy based on the number of hops traversed by a packet through the network. The performance results are obtained through simulations in a channel with Rayleigh fading for networks with different number of hops, showing that error control can improve the energy efficiency of a Bluetooth-based sensor network.

Porous, nanostructured silver samples were produced using a direct-write method where a nanoparticle aerosol consisting of particles with a mean size of approximately 5 nm were accelerated to speeds of approximately 1000 m/sec and impacted onto a translating substrate [1]. The impacting particles have sufficient energy to stick to the substrate, allowing patterned thick films to be directly written from the aerosol without a mask. Unlike other low temperature processing routes for achieving patterned films, no organics are added that can interfere with postdeposition processing. Typical films are 5- 100 μm thick, up to several centimeters long, and have an as-deposited relative densities as high as 70% of bulk Ag. Compression tests were carried out in steps at room temperature and at 150°C under constant displacement rates. Local strain and densification were measured by optical profilometry between each compression step. The results can be used as a starting point to better understand the mechanisms that govern plasticity, creep, and sintering in nanostructured, porous silver at low processing temperatures.

This paper presents a fully complex-valued functional link network (CFLN). The CFLN is a single-layered neural network, which introduces nonlinearity in the input layer using nonlinear functions of the original input variables. In this study, we consider multivariate polynomials as the nonlinear functions. Unlike multilayer neural networks, the CFLN is free from local minima problem, and it offers very fast learning in parameters because of its linear structure. In the complex domain, polynomial based CFLN has an additional advantage of not requiring activation functions, which is a major concern in the complex-valued neural networks. However, it is important to select a smaller subset of polynomial terms (monomials) for faster and better performance, since the number of all possible monomials may be quite large. In this paper, we use the orthogonal least squares method in a constructive fashion (starting from lower degree to higher) for the selection of a parsimonious subset of monomials. Simulation results demonstrate that computing CFLN in purely complex domain is advantageous than in double-dimensional real domain, in terms of number of connection parameters, faster design, and possibly generalization performance. Moreover, our proposed CFLN compares favorably with several other multilayer networks in the complex domain.
