Air pollution has become a major global threat to human health. Urbanization and industrialization over the past few decades have increased the air pollution. Plausible connections have been made between air pollutants anddementia. This study used machine learning algorithms (k-nearest neighbors, random forest, gradient-boosteddecision trees, eXtreme gradient boosting, and CatBoost) to investigate the association between cognitive impairment and air pollution. data from the Taiwan Biobank and 75 air-pollution-monitoring stations in Taiwan were analyzed to determine individual levels of exposure to air pollutants. The pollutants examined were particulate matter with a diameter of ≤ 2.5 μm (PM), nitrogen dioxide, nitric oxide, carbon monoxide, and ozone. The results revealed that the most strongly correlated with cognitive impairment were ozone, PM, and carbon monoxide levels with adjustment of educational level, age, and household income. The model based on these factors achieved accuracy as high as 0.97 for detecting cognitive impairment, indicating a positive association between air pollutions and cognitive impairment.

Geological structural and rainfall intensity causes the parameters of soil shear strength to decline, especially in the surface layer of soil in volcanic rocks that have not experienced weathering. Study of geological structures and rainfall intensity against the hazard of a landslide was destroyed on the slopes of Mount Abang in the Abang Batudinding Village. Soil investigations using the Geoelectric method and sampling at 6 boreholes. Geological analysis on interpretation of slope outcrops, average rainfall analysis of the Thiessen Polygon method and analysis of design flooddischarge using the NHSU method. Analysis results show the morphology of the slopes of Mount Abang with a slope of more than 40% and lithology of weathered volcanic rocks consisting of volcanic breccias, and tuffs breccias in conditions rather mild to moderate weathering, if have average effective rainfall for 10-50 years at 238 mm/day. The results also show that the peak discharge of debris flow was 98.639 m3/sec with the volume of debris flow 50072.85 m3 and the width of the range was 49.5 m. This debris flow volume indicated that residents around the river with a range of 49.5 m are at risk of debris flow sediment with a thickness of 1-1.5 m.

Air pollution has been linked to respiratory diseases, and urban air pollution can be attributed to a number of emission sources. The emitted particles and gases are the primary components of air pollution that enter the lungs during respiration. Particulate matter with an aerodynamic diameter of ≤ 2.5 µm (PM) can deposit deep into the respiratory tract via inhalation and has been proposed as a causative agent for adverse respiratory health. In addition, the lung contains a diverse microbial community (microbiome) that maintains normal homeostasis and is significantly altered in a variety of pulmonary disorders. Air pollution, specifically PM, has previously been shown to significantly alter the composition of the lower airway microbiome, which has been linked to decreased lung function in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPd) patients. Surprisingly, the intestinal microbiome has also been implicated in the modulation of pulmonary inflammatory diseases. Therefore, dysbiosis of the lung and intestinal microbiomes pose significant negative effects on human health. This dataset describes the microbial community profiles of the lungs and intestines of ageing rats exposed to ambient unconcentrated traffic-related air pollution for three months. The whole-body exposure system was equipped with and without high efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filtration (gaseous vs. PM pollution). The data can provide valuable information on lung and intestinal microbiome changes, including that which was only found after traffic-related air pollution exposure.

The interaction between glioblastoma cells and glioblastoma-associated macrophages (GAMs) influences the immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment, leading to ineffective immunotherapies. We hypothesized that disrupting the communication between tumors and macrophages would enhance the efficacy of immunotherapies. Transcriptomic analysis of recurrent glioblastoma specimens indicated an enhanced neuroinflammatory pathway, with CXCL12 emerging as the top-ranked gene in secretory molecules. Single-cell transcriptome profiling of naïve glioblastoma specimens revealed CXCL12 expression in tumor and myeloid clusters. An analysis of public glioblastoma datasets has confirmed the association of CXCL12 with disease and Pd-L1 expression. In vitro studies have demonstrated that exogenous CXCL12 induces pro-tumorigenic characteristics in macrophage-like cells and upregulated Pd-L1 expression through NF-κB signaling. We identified CXCR7, an atypical receptor for CXCL12 predominantly present in tumor cells, as a negative regulator of CXCL12 expression by interfering with extracellular signal-regulated kinase activation. CXCR7 knockdown in a glioblastoma mouse model resulted in worse survival outcomes, increased Pd-L1 expression in GAMs, and reduced Cd8 T-cell infiltration compared with the control group. Ex vivo T-cell experiments demonstrated enhanced cytotoxicity against tumor cells with a selective CXCR7 agonist, VUF11207, reversing GAM-induced immunosuppression in a glioblastoma cell-macrophage-T-cell co-culture system. Notably, VUF11207 prolonged survival and potentiated the anti-tumor effect of the anti-Pd-L1 antibody in glioblastoma-bearing mice. This effect was mitigated by an anti-Cd8β antibody, indicating the synergistic effect of VUF11207. In conclusion, CXCL12 conferred immunosuppression mediated by pro-tumorigenic and Pd-L1-expressing GAMs in glioblastoma. Targeted activation of glioblastoma-derived CXCR7 inhibits CXCL12, thereby eliciting anti-tumor immunity and enha
