Federated Learning (FL) is a distributed machine learning (ML) approach that enables multiple edge nodes to collaboratively train ML models by sharing model parameters, thus addressing privacy concerns. However, in highly distributed, dynamic, and volatile FL environments, the global model is vulnerable to various corruptions. For instance, edge nodes might falsely claim that the received global model is incomplete, or the channel that transmits the global model is untrustworthy. Effectively verifying the integrity of the global model poses a critical challenge. To tackle this issue, we introduce a method for verifying model integrity called Federated learning global Model Integrity Verification (FMIV). It leverages Merkle Hash Tree (MHT) to generate integrity proofs of the global model during verification. To improve security, we integrate random security codes during proof generation. FMIV is capable of verifying the global model updated by the central server and shared with untrusted edge nodes, while efficiently identifying the edge node caching the incomplete global model. Furthermore, we conduct theoretical analysis and extensive experiments to validate the performance of FMIV. Compared to the two state-of-the-art approaches, FMIV consistently exhibits a notable improvement in verification efficiency and effectiveness in detecting model corruption.

Reinforcement learning (RL) aims to formulate the recommendation task as a Markov decision process (MDP) and trains an agent to automatically learn the optimal recommendation policy from interaction trajectories through trial-and-error and reward mechanisms. However, most existing RL-based approaches overlook the correlation between items and the dynamics of user interests implied in temporally close interactions. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a reinforcement learning method that incorporates a "recent-k items"distribution to capture users' local preferences. Specifically, we model the output layer as two distinct branches. The "recent-k items"branch, formulated with a Kullback-Leibler divergence loss, learns the recent interests of users, whereas the other branch utilizes a one-step temporal difference error to capture long-term preferences. The proposed structure is integrated into deep Q-learning and actor-critics, resulting in two enhanced methods named R k Q and R k AC, respectively. Furthermore, a novel soft inter-reward is carefully designed to enhance the proposed method, and we theoretically prove the convergence of the proposed algorithm. We perform extensive experiments on two large real-world datasets and conduct further analysis of the influences of different action sequences, time intervals, and enhancement capabilities for state-of-the-art models. The experimental results demonstrate the efficacy of our proposed methods. © 1999-2012 IEEE.

The expensive fine-grained annotation and data scarcity have become the primary obstacles for the widespread adoption of deep learning-based Whole Slide Images (WSI) classification algorithms in clinical practice. Unlike few-shot learning methods in natural images that can leverage the labels of each image, existing few-shot WSI classification methods only utilize a small number of fine-grained labels or weakly supervised slide labels for training in order to avoid expensive fine-grained annotation. They lack sufficient mining of available WSIs, severely limiting WSI classification performance. To address the above issues, we propose a novel and efficient dual-tier few-shot learning paradigm for WSI classification, named FAST. FAST consists of a dual-level annotation strategy and a dual-branch classification framework. Firstly, to avoid expensive fine-grained annotation, we collect a very small number of WSIs at the slide level, and annotate an extremely small number of patches. Then, to fully mining the available WSIs, we use all the patches and available patch labels to build a cache branch, which utilizes the labeled patches to learn the labels of unlabeled patches and through knowledge retrieval for patch classification. In addition to the cache branch, we also construct a prior branch that includes learnable prompt vectors, using the text encoder of visual-language models for patch classification. Finally, we integrate the results from both branches to achieve WSI classification. Extensive experiments on binary and multi-class datasets demonstrate that our proposed method significantly surpasses existing few-shot classification methods and approaches the accuracy of fully supervised methods with only 0.22% annotation costs. Federated Learning (FL) faces significant challenges in scenarios with non-IID (non-independent and identically distributed) data distributions across participating clients. Traditional aggregation-based approaches often struggle with the inherent misalignment between local and global optimization objectives, leadingwhich leads to gradient divergence and suboptimal generalization performance. This paper proposes a novel FL framework that replaces conventional aggregation with a biologically inspired model symbiosis approach called FedSym, which employs a dual-level symbiotic mechanism. Ectosymbiosis performs coarse-grained hierarchical parameter recombinations through random layer-wise model combination, while endosymbiosis enables fine-grained intra-layer parameter fusion through weighted averaging, collectively steering model updates towards flatter loss landscapes. Our theoretical analysis demonstrates that FedSym's convergence rate is O(1T) under non-IID conditions, which matches the convergence properties of FedAvg. Extensive experimentsevaluations across multiple datasets and model architectures show that FedSym achieves substantial improvements over state-of-the-art FL methods, particularly in challenging scenarios with high data heterogeneity, and demonstrates robust performance across varying numbers of participating clients and federation scales. © 2014 IEEE.

The communication between vehicles has attracted more and more attention in intelligent transportation system(ITS). Due to the rapid movement of vehicles, the topology of network nodes changes rapidly, resulting in collisions between vehicles. Therefore, the design of efficient and reliable media access control protocol is very necessary to solve the communication problem between vehicles. In this paper, a merge collision prediction TDMA-MAC in distributed VANET(MCPMAC) is proposed to solve the merging collision problem. In MCPMAC, when multiple vehicles occupying the same time slot meet within the two hop communication range, one vehicle continues to use the time slot by comparing the time stamp of the vehicle access time slot, and the other vehicles sequentially select the idle time slot to reduce the probability of merging collision between vehicles. Simulation results show MCPMAC protocol has higher reliability and lower number of collisions than the existing MAC protocols. © 2021 IEEE.

Visual Place Recognition (VPR) is aimed at predicting the location of a query image by referencing a database of geotagged images. For VPR task, often fewer discriminative local regions in an image produce important effects while mundane background regions do not contribute or even cause perceptual aliasing because of easy overlap. However, existing methods lack precisely modeling and full exploitation of these discriminative regions. In this paper, we propose the Focus on Local (FoL) approach to stimulate the performance of image retrieval and re-ranking in VPR simultaneously by mining and exploiting reliable discriminative local regions in images and introducing pseudo-correlation supervision. First, we design two losses, Extraction-Aggregation Spatial Alignment Loss (SAL) and Foreground-Background Contrast Enhancement Loss (CEL), to explicitly model reliable discriminative local regions and use them to guide the generation of global representations and efficient re-ranking. Second, we introduce a weakly-supervised local feature training strategy based on pseudo-correspondences obtained from aggregating global features to alleviate the lack of local correspondences ground truth for the VPR task. Third, we suggest an efficient re-ranking pipeline that is efficiently and precisely based on discriminative region guidance. Finally, experimental results show that our FoL achieves the state-of-the-art on multiple VPR benchmarks in both image retrieval and re-ranking stages and also significantly outperforms existing two-stage VPR methods in terms of computational efficiency. Data-Free Knowledge Distillation (DFKD) enables knowledge transfer from teacher networks without access to the real dataset. However, generator-based DFKD methods often suffer from insufficient diversity or low-confidence in synthetic images, negatively impacting student network performance. This paper introduces DFMC, a generative feature-driven framework to mitigate the inherent limitations of DFKD. We propose exploiting semantic description between generative feature domains to guide augmentation strategies, avoiding random abstract inputs caused by inconsistent semantic quality. Then, by applying noise to the generative features, we produce contrastive learning pairs indirectly, limiting the sampling range of the feature domain to encourage the student network to learn domain-invariant features. Finally, we guide the student network to deeply mimic the teacher’s layer-wise implicit classification behavior for the augmented synthetic images. Extensive experiments across various datasets and downstream tasks demonstrate the effectiveness of DFMC, achieving significant improvements while preventing student networks from overfitting to semantic ambiguous images. © 1991-2012 IEEE.

As internet of Things (IoT) technologies continue to evolve at an unprecedented pace, intelligent big data control and information systems have become critical enablers for organizational digital transformation, facilitating data-driven decision making, fostering innovation ecosystems, and maintaining operational stability. In this study, we propose an advanced deployment algorithm for Service Function Chaining (SFC) that leverages an enhanced Practical Byzantine Fault Tolerance (PBFT) mechanism. The main goal is to tackle the issues of security and resource efficiency in SFC implementation across diverse network settings. By integrating blockchain technology and Deep Reinforcement Learning (DRL), our algorithm not only optimizes resource utilization and quality of service but also ensures robust security during SFC deployment. Specifically, the enhanced PBFT consensus mechanism (VRPBFT) significantly reduces consensus latency and improves Byzantine node detection through the introduction of a Verifiable Random Function (VRF) and a node reputation grading model. Experimental results demonstrate that compared to traditional PBFT, the proposed VRPBFT algorithm reduces consensus latency by approximately 30% and decreases the proportion of Byzantine nodes by 40% after 100 rounds of consensus. Furthermore, the DRL-based SFC deployment algorithm (SDRL) exhibits rapid convergence during training, with improvements in long-term average revenue, request acceptance rate, and revenue/cost ratio of 17%, 14.49%, and 20.35%, respectively, over existing algorithms. Additionally, the CPU resource utilization of the SDRL algorithm reaches up to 42%, which is 27.96% higher than other algorithms. These findings indicate that the proposed algorithm substantially enhances resource utilization efficiency, service quality, and security in SFC deployment.

Traditional cloud computing models struggle to meet the requirements of latency-sensitive applications when processing large amounts of data. As a solution, Multi-access Edge computing (MEC) extends computing resources to the edge of the network to reduce processing delays and improve user experience. However, in dynamically changing edge computing environments, effective decision making on whether to offload tasks to edge servers remains a core challenge. For this purpose, we propose MRLATO, an adaptive task offloading mechanism based on Meta Reinforcement Learning (MRL), which exploits a large amount of a priori knowledge of different tasks to achieve fast adaptation. The task offloading process is modelled as multiple Markov Decision Processes (MDPs) and solved using a Sequence to Sequence (Seq2Seq) neural network integrating multi-head attention and recursive task sequencing. It is shown by the experimental results that the proposed method has the lowest latency in all experimental settings and the convergence efficiency is improved by 14.06% compared to the traditional Deep Reinforcement Learning (DRL) algorithm. This research fully demonstrates the significant benefits of the deep integration of MRL with the edge computing domain, providing new optimisation ideas for task offloading decisions. © 1967-2012 IEEE.

Vision-language models (VLMs) have demonstrated remarkable open-vocabulary object recognition capabilities, motivating their adaptation for dense prediction tasks like segmentation. However, directly applying VLMs to such tasks remains challenging due to their lack of pixel-level granularity and the limited data available for fine-tuning, leading to overfitting and poor generalization. To address these limitations, we propose Generalization Boosted Adapter (GBA), a novel adapter strategy that enhances the generalization and robustness of VLMs for open-vocabulary segmentation. GBA comprises two core components: (1) a Style Diversification Adapter (SDA) that decouples features into amplitude and phase components, operating solely on the amplitude to enrich the feature space representation while preserving semantic consistency;and (2) a Correlation Constraint Adapter (CCA) that employs cross-attention to establish tighter semantic associations between text categories and target regions, suppressing irrelevant low-frequency "noise" information and avoiding erroneous associations. Through the synergistic effect of the shallow SDA and the deep CCA, GBA effectively alleviates overfitting issues and enhances the semantic relevance of feature representations. As a simple, efficient, and plug-and-play component, GBA can be flexibly integrated into various CLIP-based methods, demonstrating broad applicability and achieving state-of-the-art performance on multiple open-vocabulary segmentation benchmarks. © 2024, CC BY.
