Linear Subspace Surrogate Modeling for Large-Scale Expensive Single/Multi-Objective Optimization

Despite that the surrogate-assisted evolutionary algorithms have achieved great success in addressing expensive optimization problems, they still suffer from stiff challenges when the number of dimensions of problems becomes large. The primary reason lies in that it is very hard to build an acceptable surrogate model in the high-dimensional search space with small amounts of evaluated historical data in evolution. To tackle this issue, we suggest an effective surrogate modeling method for large-scale expensive optimization in this paper, where the models are built on a number of linear subspaces instead of the original search space. Specifically, a linear subspace is constructed by a pair of points/solutions which are generated based on the set of elite solutions. For each linear subspace, several historical solutions are first associated according to their distance to the linear subspace, and then a surrogate model is trained by the associated solutions and used to evaluate the offspring. To ensure the exploration and exploitation capacity of the proposed method, these linear subspaces and the surrogate models are updated after a few iterations. Experimental results on CEC’2010 and CEC’2013 single-objective optimization problems with up to 1500 decision variables show that the proposed algorithm is superior over six comparison algorithms. Moreover, we also extend the proposed algorithm to multi-objective optimization problems and verified its competitiveness on problems with up to 1500 decision variables. IEEE

Image restoration is a classic foundational visual task, aimed at recovering damaged images, such as those affected by compression, blurring, or noise, to high-definition clarity. Although current image enhancement techniques largely rely on convolutional neural networks, the efficient capabilities of Transformers demonstrated in complex visual tasks have not yet been extensively applied in the field of image restoration. This paper presents an optimized image restoration strategy based on the SwinIR model, which is applied to the task of underwater image restoration. In the shallow feature extraction phase, deep separable convolution technology is employed;while in the deep feature extraction phase, a Spatial Gated Feedforward Network (SGFN) is utilized. The experimental data suggests that the novel approach surpasses conventional techniques in effectiveness and has effectively minimized both the model's parameter quantity and computational demands. © 2025 IEEE.

Hyperautomation acts as a real digital transformation with the support of several cutting-edge cognitive computation methods that include robotic process automation, natural language processing, artificial intelligence, and other emerging ones, which is conducive to processing complex industrial processes via extending the range of various data-driven cognitive decision-making algorithms. The study of air quality evaluations (AQE) plays a significant role in ensuring healthy atmospheric environments. In view of the objective existence of uncertainties, AQE can be modeled and addressed by a typical data-driven automated decision-making problem, and hyperautomation can provide a reasonable solution via associating with a variety of techniques. This article explores hyperautomation for AQE via evidential three-way large-scale group decision-making (LSGDM) in an intuitionistic fuzzy (IF) setting. First, the notion of intuitionistic fuzzy sets (IFSs) is incorporated into the paradigm of multi-granularity (MG) three-way decisions (TWD), and the model of adjustable MG IF probabilistic rough sets (PRSs) is developed. Second, an IF clustering analysis with the improved technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS) method is conducted to affirm representative members within a decision group. Third, a novel IF LSGDM method is built via adjustable MG IF PRSs and the evidence reasoning (ER) method. Finally, a case study in the setting of AQE is studied by using the presented evidential three-way LSGDM method. Corresponding experimental analyses are carried out for illustrating the efficiency of hyperautomation for AQE. In general, the proposed method improves the performance of information fusion by virtue of adjustable MG IF PRSs, and the TOPSIS method avoids the influence of subjective factors on decision results. Mechanical properties of TC17 titanium alloy undergo a significant reduction after linear friction welding(LFW),of which the strength and ductility are hard to be improved simultaneously by traditional aging heat treatment(AHT),seriously limiting the application of LFW in the manufacturing of TC17 titanium alloy *** this end,the present work proposes to use electric pulse treatment(EPT)to enhance the strength and ductility of TC17 LFW joints simultaneously by improving its *** results show that,in comparison to the uneven distribution ofαphases in the welding zone(WZ),heat-affected zone(HAZ),and base metal(BM)zone after AHT,EPT can selectively homogenize theαphase distribution of WZ and HAZ without impacting the *** selective effect of EPT is reflected as the synergistic influence of the local Joule heating effect and the electron wind effect,which promotes the diffusion ofβphase stabilizing element Mo and leads to a competitive precipitation ofβphase andαphase in theαphase transition temperature *** ratio ofαphase toβphase in the WZ and HAZ finally approaches an equilibrium point which is similar to that of BM,leading to a uniform distribution ofαphase and realizing the synergy of strength-ductility of LFW joint:the maximum strength increase observed is 12.9%,accompanied by a corresponding elongation increase of 122%(by AHT&EPT),and the maximum plasticity improvement is 185%,accompanied by a corresponding strength increase of 4.3%(by EPT for 1 h).This study provides essential insights for improving the strength and ductility of LFW TC17 titanium alloy blisks and enhancing the applications of LFW in aeroengine components.

Diffusion models have shown impressive performance in many domains. However, the model's capability to follow natural language instructions (e.g., spatial relationships between objects, generating complex scenes) is still unsatisfactory. In this work, we propose Iterative Prompt Relabeling (IPR), a novel algorithm that aligns images to text through iterative image sampling and prompt relabeling with feedback. IPR first samples a batch of images conditioned on the text, then relabels the text prompts of unmatched text-image pairs with classifier feedback. We conduct thorough experiments on SDv2 and SDXL, testing their capability to follow instructions on spatial relations. With IPR, we improved up to 15.22% (absolute improvement) on the challenging spatial relation VISOR benchmark, demonstrating superior performance compared to previous RL methods. Ranking the spreading influence of nodes is of great importance for controlling the spreading process on networks. Although a few measures are proposed for ranking nodes in weighted networks, it is still a challenge in accurately and efficiently ranking the spreading influence of nodes in weighted networks. In this paper, by utilizing both of the local and global topological structure information, a novel method is proposed. First, we define a local average weight (LAW) to describe the local topological structure information of nodes. Second, partly based on the link diversity, we define an average normalized link entropy (ANLE) to describe the global topological structure information of nodes. Further, by combining the LAW and ANLE, we propose a novel ranking measure termed as LAW-ANLE (LA) centrality. The proposed LA is verified by extensive experiments on a series of networks, and the results show that the LA is feasible and effective in accurately ranking the spreading influence of nodes. © 2023 IEEE.

Recently, remarkable progress has been achieved in single image super-resolution using methods based on CNN and Transformer architectures. However, existing approaches often construct a substantial number of network layers, leading to a significant increase in performance requirement and memory consumption, thereby limiting the practical deployment and usability of the models. To address this issue, we propose an Alternating CNN Transformer Block and an Integrative CNN Efficient Transformer for single image super-resolution. We enhance feature extraction efficiency by combining CNN within and between Transformer modules. In addition, we propose two novel structures: Multi-branch Gated CNN and Parallel Channel Attention, aiming to efficiently extract local spatial information and global channel information from images. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our model achieves high performance while maintaining low model complexity. The proposed model attains PSNR values of 32.32 and 30.78 for the Set5 and Manga109 benchmark datasets, respectively, at a scale factor of ×4. Compared to other lightweight super-resolution models, our proposed model outperforms them at lower computational costs. A growing body of research indicates that employing large models for adaptation to downstream tasks often yields remarkable performance. However, in the domain of ship detection, the potential of these large models is frequently underutilized due to domain shift issues. This paper introduces the Cross-Modal Ship Grounding (CSG) model, which leverages an efficient Cross-Modal Adapter (CMA) technology to transfer the general detection capabilities of large models to ship images, addressing domain shift with minimal training costs. To mitigate the challenges posed by complex and variable background interference, the Water-Land Separation (WLS) module is proposed to focus specifically on the water area. This module effectively addresses the issue of background target interference, thereby enhancing the model’s accuracy in complex scenes. Empirical evaluations on both private and public datasets demonstrate that the CSG model surpasses all state-of-the-art models in performance. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.
