Ontology-based information retrieval is precise and effective but suffers from the problem of ontology heterogeneity. This paper focuses on the approximate information retrieval approach to solve the heterogeneity problem of both common ontologies as well as fuzzy ontologies on the semantic web. Approximate information retrieval needs to find approximations of concepts. However, current methods cannot find the best approximations of concepts for common ontologies, and there is still no published work for fuzzy ontologies. This paper firstly proposes a method of approximate information retrieval between common ontologies. It defines multielement least upper bounds and multielement greatest lower bounds, and then simplifies the multielement bounds to remove redundancy. It provides effective algorithms to find the simplified multielement bounds, and get the best approximations of concepts from the bounds. Then for the fuzzy ontologies, the paper defines cut concepts to transform fuzzy concepts into common concepts, and then applies the proposed method for approximate information retrieval between fuzzy ontologies. The improved algorithms for fuzzy ontologies are given to make the method more feasible and effective. © 2005 IEEE.

Based on classical model that used by software exploitation in the subject of Software Engineering - waterfall model, a high precision model for English noun phrase identification is presented. In this model, three important features (interior structure, context information and boundary character) in base noun phrase identification are orderly used, and the relative method (the rule method, the transfer-based and error-driven method, and the boundary statistic method) are used from top to bottom. Thus the precision of base noun phrase identification improved steadily. The "waterfall" model combined the rule method and the statistical method so as to make them complement each other. The precision of base noun phrase identification achieves 98.10% and the F score is 95.25%. Compared to other method, our method achieves the highest precision and F score.

A formal representation of ontologies is proposed, based on F-logic and O-logic; and the works in the building of ontologies in NKI. An ontology includes class frames, slot frames, class-slot frames, object frames and axioms. The value restrictions of slots are defined in slot frames. For each slot and each class, there is a class-slot frame representing the specific value restrictions of the slot when defining the class; and the relations between class-slot frames and slot frames are discussed. For a slot in a class frame, its values are inherited to its subclasses without blocking; and its default values are inherited to its subclasses taking overriding, revising and conflict resolution into account. After giving the formal representation of ontologies, the semantics of ontologies are discussed, and main results are presented.

Quality of service (QoS) multicast routing has continued to be a very important research topic in the Internet.A method of multicast routing is proposed to simultaneously optimize several parameters based on multiobjective genetic algorithm, after the related work is reviewed. The contribution lies on that the selection process of such routing is treated with multiobjective optimization. Different quality criterions in IP network are taken into account for multicast communications. A set of routing trees is generated to approximate the Pareto front of multicast problem. Multiple trees can be selected from the final set of nondominated solutions, and applied to obtain a good overall link cost and balance traffic distribution according to some simulation results.

In this paper, identification and verification approach based on human iris pattern is presented. The system is based on several steps from capturing the iris pattern, determining and localizing the iris boundaries, transformation of localized iris into rectangular and polar components, extracting the features from the image, based on wavelet transformation and at the end the matching of the iris. Matching is based on calculating the hamming codes of different irises. The algorithms used in this research are computationally effective, reliable, robust, and meet the industry standards in an efficient and effective manner. The accuracy of the presented work shows that our system is ideal for human recognition at high security places.

The gene section ordering on solving traveling salesman problems is analyzed by numerical experiments. Some improved crossover operations are presented. Several combinations of genetic operations are examined and the functions of these operations are analyzed. The essentiality of the ordering of the gene section and the significance of the evolutionary inversion operation are discussed. Some results and conclusions are obtained and given, which provide useful information for the implementation of the genetic operations for solving the traveling salesman problem.

Computational intelligence is the computational simulation of the bio-intelligence, which includes artificial neural networks, fuzzy systems and evolutionary computations. This article summarizes the state of the art in the field of simulated modeling of vibration systems using methods of computational intelligence, based on some relevant subjects and the authors' own research work. First, contributions to the applications of computational intelligence to the identification of nonlinear characteristics of packaging are reviewed. Subsequently, applications of the newly developed training algorithms for feedforward neural networks to the identification of restoring forces in multi-degree-of-freedom nonlinear systems are discussed. Finally, the neural-network-based method of model reduction for the dynamic simulation of microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) using generalized Hebbian algorithm (GHA) and robust GHA is outlined. The prospects of the simulated modeling of vibration systems using techniques of computational intelligence are also indicated.
