Agricultural coatings play a crucial role in addressing the global food crisis by significantly improving the plant growth environment, accelerating plant development, and enhancing the biological quality of plants. Nevertheless, there exist constraints in the form of limited sunlight utilization, decreased light transmission caused by surface icing leading to diminished plant photosynthesis, and high cost. In this study, a cost-effective and readily scalable superhydrophobic photothermal light-conversion coating is suggested as a means to improve the light conditions necessary for optimal plant growth. By employing in situ growth of carbon dots (CDs) on the surface and interlayers of montmorillonite (MMT) and hydrolytic polymerization of fluorinated alkyl silane (FAS) on the surface of MMT, light-converting superhydrophobic materials (CDs/MMT) with a micro-nano structure were synthesized. These materials demonstrated broad-spectrum fluorescence emission suitable for utilization by plant photosynthesis. They were dispersed into an epoxy resin (ER) matrix to obtain an agricultural superhydrophobic coating (ER-CDs/MMT). The "light absorption-capture-conversion" effect confers exceptional passive anti-icing and active de-icing properties upon the coating. Furthermore, outdoor planting experiments have demonstrated its capacity to substantially enhance the light environment and enhance the biological quality of soybean and morning glory by leveraging light scattering and conversion characteristics. High-purity H production accompanied by precise decarbonization paves the way for a carbon-neutral society. Hydrogen-bonded organic frameworks (HOFs) are promising materials for advanced gas separation membranes, but their broad nanoscale pores limit selective separation. High-quality carboxylic acid-based HOF membranes (HOF-S, HOF-M, HOF-L) with pore sizes of 6.2, 16, and 24 Å were synthesized using an innovative pore-tailoring strategy. Under optimized conditions, H can pass through while CO is blocked by the size-exclusion principle. Abundant carboxylic acid groups in pores hinder the mobility of CO via electrostatic interaction, integrating adsorption and molecular sieving to enable excellent H transport and separation. The HOF-S membrane combines size exclusion and HOF-CO interactions, exhibiting excellent selectivity for H/CO (164) and a ternary gas mixture (H/CO selectivity: 154; H/CH selectivity: 201). It also displays long-term stability under both dry and wet conditions. This strategy opens new possibilities for customizing nanofluidic membranes for advanced gas separation technologies.

We systematically evaluated fatty acids and triacylglycerol composition,as well as tocopherol,phytosterol,and phenolics,in walnut oil and compared the cholesterol-lowering effects of oil processed with different methods(cold pressing,roast-pressing,hexane extraction,subcritical butane extraction,and supercritical CO_(2) extraction).The different methods did not affect the lipid composition of walnut *** tocopherol(41.11 mg/100 g)and total phenolic content(TPC,4.26 mg/100 g)of roast-pressed walnut oil and the phytosterol contents of subcritical butane-extracted walnut oil(106.51 mg/100 g)were higher than those of other tested *** oil significantly decreased cholesterol synthesis by downregulating the expression of HMGCR,SREBP-2,and CYP51 genes,and increased cholesterol efflux by upregulating the expression of ABCG1,thus significantly reducing total cholesterol and *** and TPC in walnut oil were responsible for lowering cholesterol;the optimal concentration of phytosterols was 10μg/mL,and that of TPC was 12.5×10^(-3)μg/*** process optimization,a new processing method for walnut oil based on biological evaluation was preliminarily established.

Complex correlated states emerging from many-body interactions between quasiparticles (electrons, excitons and phonons) are at the core of condensed matter physics and material science. In low-dimensional materials, quantum confinement affects the electronic, and subsequently, optical properties for these correlated states. Here, by combining photoluminescence, optical reflection measurements and ab initio theoretical calculations, we demonstrate an unconventional excitonic state and its bound phonon sideband in layered silicon diphosphide (SiP2), where the bound electron–hole pair is composed of electrons confined within one-dimensional phosphorus–phosphorus chains and holes extended in two-dimensional SiP2 layers. The excitonic state and emergent phonon sideband show linear dichroism and large energy redshifts with increasing temperature. Our ab initio many-body calculations confirm that the observed phonon sideband results from the correlated interaction between excitons and optical phonons. With these results, we propose layered SiP2 as a platform for the study of excitonic physics and many-particle effects.

Highly Sensitive Fluorescent Aptasensor for Detecting Α-Amatoxin Based on Rolling Circle Amplification Triggered by Aptamer-Tetrahedral

α-amatoxin is the most toxic of the amatoxins and is responsible for deaths from accidental ingestion of poisonous mushrooms. Therefore, it is particularly important to provide an efficient, simple and sensitive method for α-amatoxin. Here, an aptamer tetrahedral functionalized magnetic bead was prepared, and α-amatoxin specifically bound to the aptamer on the tetrahedral and released complementary DNA(C-DNA) strands from it. This strand was used as a primer to trigger rolling circle amplification (RCA) for sensitive detection of α-amatoxin. The fluorescent dye was embedded between the double strands formed by hybridization of the detection probe and the RCA product to generate strong fluorescent signal. Under the optimal conditions, the fluorescence signal increased with the increasing α-amatoxin concentration over a dynamic range of 0.01 μg/mL to 5 μg/mL. The detection of limit (LOD) was calculated to be 7 ng/mL and the method was highly selective for α-amatoxin. The method was compared with liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) for detecting α-amatoxin in spiked mushrooms and urine, and the results were consistent. Overall, this combination of DNA structure nanofabrication and signal amplification provides an exciting solution for the detection of α-amatoxin. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

This study sought to substitute the commonly used carbohydrate, namely, maltodextrin (MD), with indigestible soluble dietary fibers (SDF) including inulin (IN), resistant dextrin (RSD) and xylo-oligosaccharides (XOS), and combine with whey protein isolate to encapsulate edible oil (coconut oil as an example). The effects of different SDF on characteristics of emulsion and microcapsules were investigated. The results showed that the optimum amount of SDF addition was 9%. Observation of morphology revealed that the microcapsules of 9% IN had cracks, while the microcapsules of RSD and XOS had complete structure. The encapsulation efficiency of microcapsules containing SDF (91.1% to 97.5%) was higher than that of MD18 (88.2%), and the oxidative stability was in the order of XOS9 > RSD9 > IN9 > MD18. These results suggest that SDF has great potential for encapsulating oil, which can provide a solution for production of low-sugar powdered oil with enhanced prebiotic properties. © 2025, The Authors. Robust omniphobic membranes with both fouling and wetting resistance properties have attracted great attention in improving the continuous service performance of the membrane distillation (MD) process. However, the fabrication of omniphobic surfaces commonly undergoes complex procedures of modification including the construction of rough structures and post-modification using low-surface-energy substances. Herein, novel omniphobic polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) membranes were derived from the combination of highly porous and rough structured membranes directly constructed through a one-step procedure of vapor-induced phase separation (VIPS) method and the perfluorination of membranes. Results showed that the water contact angle of the perfluorinated membrane increased from 139.6° of the original membrane to 153°, and its soybean oil contact angle increased from 45° of the original membrane to 141°. In addition, the LEP of the perfluorinated membrane is 0.32 MPa, which is higher than the 0.22 MPa of the original membrane. When using high saline brines containing gradient concentration of SDBS or soybean oil as the feed, the perfluorinated membrane can maintain a stable salt rejection rate and water flux during MD testing, while the performance of the original membrane is significantly reduced. This study offers valuable insights for constructing robust omniphobic membranes and elucidating their anti-fouling and anti-wetting mechanism in MD applications. © 2023, The Authors. Foodomics Reveals Altered Lipid and Protein Profiles of Antarctic Krill (Euphausia Superba) Under Different Processing

Drying processing is an indispensable procedure for the application of krill source. Different drying processing usually offers significant influence on the physicochemical properties of food stuff. This study performed lipidomics and proteomics investigation of freeze and hot-air drying approaches impact on krill products. Multivariate analysis indicated the dramatic differences between freeze-dried and hot-air dried krill. A total of 276 lipids were observed to be changed, including phosphatidylcholines (PC), triacylglycerols (TG) as well as fatty acids (FA) and their conjugates. Interestingly, several long-chain polyunsaturated phospholipids, such as PC (20:5_22:6), PC (20:5_20:5) and PE (16:0_22:6) displayed higher contents in hot-air dried krill, suggesting that hot-air drying was beneficial to the high-quality krill oil extraction. On the other hand, the levels of 13 proteins in hot-air dried krill were noted to be higher, whereas other 101 proteins were found to be higher in freeze dried krill. These results indicated that hot-air drying processing could reserve more phospholipids in krill oil but degrade lots of krill tissue protein, while the freeze drying maintained more proteins in tissue, increasing the risk of deterioration for long-term storge. t2 Occupancy as an Effective and Predictive Descriptor for the Design of High-Performance Spinel Oxide Peroxidase-like Nanozymes

Nanozymes are next generation of enzyme mimics. Due to the lack of activity descriptors, most nanozymes were discovered through trial-and-error strategies or by accident. While eg occupancy in an octahedral crystal field was proven as an effective descriptor, the t2 in a tetrahedral crystal field has rarely been explored. Here, we first identified t2 occupancy as an effective and predictive descriptor. Then, we predicted and demonstrated that spinel oxide nanozymes (AB2O4) with a t2 occupancy of around 4.4 at A site had the highest activity. Furthermore, we introduced Oβ content as a secondary descriptor. The dual descriptor strategy resulted in a three-dimensional volcanic curve, converging at a vertex. To surpass the limitations of volcanic curves, a dual site optimizing strategy was proposed, guiding the optimization of both A and B sites as Cu and Co, respectively. The designed CuCo2O4 exhibited the highest activity, achieving around 100- and 2-fold enhancement compared to initial material and the state-of-the-art spinel oxide nanozyme LiCo2O4, respectively. Density functional theory calculations provided a theoretical basis for the catalytic process. This work provides a new strategy for the rational design of nanozymes, and t2 occupancy may also be applicable to the design of other catalysts. © 2025 Wiley-VCH GmbH.
