Spatial-keyword queries on road networks are receiving increasing attention with the prominence of location-based services. There is a growing need to handle queries on road networks in distributed environments because a large network is typically distributed over multiple machines and it will improve query throughput. However, all the existing work on spatial keyword queries is based on a centralized setting. In this paper, we develop a distributed solution to answering spatial keyword queries on road networks. Example queries include "find locations near a supermarket and a hospital," and "find Chinese restaurants within 500 meters from my current location." We define an operation for answering such queries and reduce the problem of answering a query into computing a function of such operations. We propose a new distributed index that enables each machine to independently evaluate the operation on its network fragment in a distributed setting. We theoretically prove the space optimality of the proposed index technique. We conduct experiments with a distributed setting. Experimental results demonstrate the promising performance of our method.

Discriminant neighborhood embedding (DNE) algorithm is one of supervised linear dimensionality reduction methods. Its nonlinear version kernel discriminant neighborhood embedding (KDNE) is expected to behave well on classification tasks. However, since KDNE constructs an adjacent graph in the original space, the adjacency graph could not represent the adjacent information in the kernel mapping space. By introducing hidden space, this paper proposes a novel nonlinear method for DNE, called hidden space discriminant neighborhood embedding (HDNE). This algorithm first maps the data in the original space into a high dimensional hidden space by a set of nonlinear hidden functions, and then builds an adjacent graph incorporating neighborhood information of the dataset in the hidden space. Finally, DNE is used to find a transformation matrix which would map the data in the hidden space to a low-dimensional subspace. The proposed method is applied to ORL face and MNIST handwritten digit databases. Experimental results show that the proposed method is efficiency for classification tasks.

A novel finite element method (FEM) based wide-angle (WA) beam propagation method (BPM) was presented whereby the scalar Helmholtz equation was solved without using the slow varying envelope approximation (SVEA) and was more general and precise than the previous well-known WA-BPM proposed by Hadley. The multi-tier architecture is prevalently adopted by cloud applications, such as the three-tier web application. It is highly desirable for both tenants and providers to provide virtual networks in an efficient and elastic way, where tenant applications can automatically scale in or out with varying workloads and providers can accommodate as many requests as possible in the underlying network. However, due to potential conflicts between efficiency and elasticity, it is challenging to achieve these two goals simultaneously in abstracting tenant requirements and designing corresponding provisioning algorithms. In this paper, we propose an efficient and elastic virtual network provisioning solution called Easy Alloc, which is comprised of an elasticity-aware abstraction model and a virtual network provisioning algorithm. To accurately capture the tenant requirement and maintain the provisioning simplicity for providers, the elasticity-aware model enables two types of decoupling, i.e., Always-on VMs for normal load and on-demand VMs for dynamic scaling, and the bandwidth requirement of each VM for intra- and inter-tier communications. Then we formulate the virtual network provisioning as an overhead minimization problem, where the objective simultaneously considers the bandwidth and elasticity overhead. Due to the NP-completeness of this problem, we leverage two heuristics, slot reservation and tier iteration, to obtain an efficient algorithm. Extensive simulation results show that compared with a typical elasticity-agnostic method under a heavy load, Easy Alloc enables a 9% increase of request acceptance rate and a 16.8% improvement of the successful extension rate. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first work targeting at the elastic virtual network provisioning.

Fountain code is a class of graph-based linear erasure codes, which can effectively solve the problems such as network congestion and feedback cracking for its characteristics of rateless and can resume when interrupted, and has a lower complexity of encoding and decoding. However, there are still some problems in the process of encoding and decoding, including the degree distribution structure may be destroyed, parameters of the generating matrix are not fixed, and it cannot recover source datas from the remaining encoded packets with no degree one. So, the basic theory of fountain codes from three aspects are introduced in this paper, i.e., degree distribution, encoding and decoding principles. Therefore the improved algorithms according to the above three aspects are presented. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm is more efficient than the previous one.

Most existing language modeling approaches are based on the term independence hypothesis. To go beyond this assumption, two main directions were investigated. The first one considers the use of the proximity features that capture the degree to which search terms appear close to each other in a document. Another one considers the use of semantic relationships between words. Previous studies have proven that these two types of information, including term proximity features and semantic relationships between words, are both useful to improve retrieval performance. Intuitionally, we can use them in combination to further improve retrieval performance. Based on this idea, this paper propose a positional translation language model to explicitly incorporate both of these two types of information under language modeling framework in a unified way. In the first step, we present a proximity-based method to estimate word-word translation probabilities. Then, we define a translation document model for each position of a document and use these document models to score the document. Experimental results on standard TREC collections show that the proposed model achieves significant improvements over the state-of-the-art models, including positional language model, and translation language models. © 2014 Springer International Publishing.

Protein-protein interaction (PPI) networks are crucial for organisms. Many research efforts have thus been devoted to the study on the topological properties PPI networks. However, existing studies did not always report consistent results on the topological properties of PPI networks. This situation is primarily caused by the incompleteness of current PPI datasets. To solve this problem, in this paper we revisited the topological properties of PPI networks from the perspective of PPI dataset evolution. Concretely, we used twelve PPI datasets of Arabidopsis thaliana from different BioGRID database versions, and compared the topological properties of PPI networks built from the twelve datasets. Our results show that as the dataset evolves, the PPI network becomes more and more complete, all considered topological properties seemingly converge to stable values, which possibly indicate the topological nature of the complete Arabidopsis thaliana PPI network. Such findings can not be obtained from a few datasets as used in the existing works.

Predicting the three-dimensional structure of proteins from amino acid sequences with only a few remote homologs,or de novo prediction,remains a major challenge in computational *** modeling of the protein backbone represents the initial phase of a protein structure prediction *** a parallel ant colony optimization based on sharing one pheromone matrix,this report proposes a parallel approach to predict the structure of a protein *** parallel approach combines various sources of energy functions and generates protein backbones with the lowest energies jointly determined by the various energy *** free modeling targets in CASP8/9 are used to evaluate the performance of the *** 13 targets in CASP8,two out of the predicted model1s selected by our approach are the best of the published CASP8 results,and seven out of the model1s are ranked in the top *** 29 targets in CASP9,20 out of the best models from our predictions are ranked in the top 10,and 11 out of the model1s are ranked in the top 10.

With the increasing growth of users and exponential propagation of messages, Social Network Services such as Twitter, Facebook can be used to analyze social trend, people's interests and personal-favor. Recently, the Social Network Analysis based on Semantic Web technology tends to be a hot study. In this paper, we propose a sentiment-oriented method that takes advantage of emotion ontology to reason out Twitter users' basic emotions and retrieve YAGO ontology to explain associative topics. We implement a prototype system that visualizes the analysis result, which is human- readable as well as machine-understandable.
