The Second-order h-type Indicators for Identifying Top Units

The second-order h-type indicators are suggested to identify top units in scientometrics. Basically, the re-ranking of h-type series leads to the second-order h-type indicator. The second-order h-type indicators provide an interesting and natural method to identify top units, yielding fixed h-top. Differentiating from the series of artificially defined highly cited percentile classes, the h-top contributes a natural definite top in the series of highly cited classes. When studying theoretically, the second-order h-index concerns 3% of the h-top whereas the first-order h-index refers to 10% of the h-core. Research on the motivation to contribution and influencing factors of university students——a semi-structured interview based on qualitative research

Due to the lack of theoretical knowledge and practical experience, the university students have many deficiencies in contribution. We conducted semi-structured interviews with 28 undergraduate and postgraduate students of Nanjing Agricultural University. At the same time, we used descriptive statistics and cross-analysis methods to analyse the motivations of college students' initial contribution and the influencing factor of their choice. Based on this, this paper puts forward some suggestions for the initial submission of college students, and the journals are also provided for reference in the selection of manuscripts.

Research on Influencing Factors of College Students' Intention of Online Health Information Behavior Based on Social Cognitive Theory

Based on the Social Cognition Theory, we constructed the influencing factors model of college students' intention of online health information behavior from three levels of individual, society and information systems, which was analyzed by using the PLS-SEM. Research shows that self-efficacy, information service quality, social support, information literacy and information quality significantly influence college students' intention of online health information behavior. However, the influence of perceived risk and information system quality is not significant.

Recently, more and more authors have been encouraged for collaboration because it often produces good results. However, the author collaboration network contains experts in various research directions within various fields, and it is difficult for individual authors to decide which authors are best suited to their expertise. This paper uses the relationships among authors to predict new relationships that may arise, recommending each author with the collaborators they may be interested in. The data source comes from 4-year data in DBLP from 2001 to 2004. After data cleaning, the training set and test set are constructed and then used BP neural network to build model. At the same time, this article compares the performance with Logistic Regression, SVM and Random Forest. The experiment shows that the BP neural network can get better result, and it is feasible to predict links in the author collaboration network. © The Authors, published by EDP Sciences, 2017.

Do we measure novelty when we analyze unusual combinations of cited references? A validation study of bibliometric novelty indicators based on F1000Prime data

Lee, Walsh, and Wang (2015) – based on Uzzi, Mukherjee, Stringer, and Jones (2013) – and Wang, Veugelers, and Stephan (2017) proposed scores based on cited references (cited journals) data which can be used to measure the novelty of papers (named as novelty scores U and W in this study). Although previous research has used novelty scores in various empirical analyses, no study has been published up to now – to the best of our knowledge – which quantitatively tested the convergent validity of novelty scores: do these scores measure what they propose to measure? Using novelty assessments by faculty members (FMs) at F1000Prime for comparison, we tested the convergent validity of the two novelty scores (U and W). FMs’ assessments not only refer to the quality of biomedical papers, but also to their characteristics (by assigning certain tags to the papers): for example, are the presented findings or formulated hypotheses novel (tags "new findings" and "hypothesis")? We used these and other tags to investigate the convergent validity of both novelty scores. Our study reveals different results for the novelty scores: the results for novelty score U are mostly in agreement with previously formulated expectations. We found, for instance, that for a standard deviation (one unit) increase in novelty score U, the expected number of assignments of the "new finding" tag increase by 7.47%. The results for novelty score W, however, do not reflect convergent validity with the FMs’ assessments: only the results for some tags are in agreement with the expectations. Thus, we propose – based on our results – the use of novelty score U for measuring novelty quantitatively, but question the use of novelty score W. Copyright © 2019, The Authors. Multilingual Focused Crawler System based on Web Content Extraction and Path Configuration

The multilingual focused crawler system combines web content extraction with path configuration to make use of their advantages and achieve automatic collection of network information in multiple languages. Firstly, system selects foreign language keywords according to crawling webpage language and Chinese keywords, and uses initial link to obtain webpage information. Then, it uses path configuration information or web content extraction algorithm based on the distribution line block to get webpage content, and adopts rules or configuration information to acquire new links, published time and title. Next, keywords are used to filter irrelevant information. Finally, results are presented as a list. When users use focused crawler system, the webpage path information can be configured or not according to requirements, and the collected network resources can also be searched or filtered.

Publishing articles in high-impact English journals is difficult for scholars around the world, especially for non-native English-speaking scholars (NNESs), most of whom struggle with proficiency in English. In order to uncover the differences in English scientific writing between native English-speaking scholars (NESs) and NNESs, we collected a large-scale data set containing more than 150,000 full-text articles published in PLoS between 2006 and 2015. We divided these articles into three groups according to the ethnic backgrounds of the first and corresponding authors, obtained by Ethnea, and examined the scientific writing styles in English from a two-fold perspective of linguistic complexity: (1) syntactic complexity, including measurements of sentence length and sentence complexity;and (2) lexical complexity, including measurements of lexical diversity, lexical density, and lexical sophistication. With the aim of resolving the issue of cluster analysis more precisely and validly, a new approach was proposed based on biogeography-based optimization (abbreviated as BBO) algorithm. (Method) First, we reformulated the problem with an optimization model based on the variance ratio criterion (VARAC). Then, BBO was presented to search the optimal solution of the VARAC. There are 400 data of four groups in the experimental dataset, which have the degrees of overlapping of three distinct scales. The first one is nonoverlapping, the second one is partial overlapping, and the last is severely overlapping. BBO algorithm was compared with three different state-of-the-art approaches. We ran every algorithm 20 times. In this experiment, our results demonstrate the maximum VARAC values that can be found by BBO. The conclusion is that BBO is predominant which is extremely quick for the issue of clustering analysis. © Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2017.

Evaluating journals' yearly impact with altmetric indicators

Purpose： Applying SSCI journals of library and information science （LIS） as the research sample, we explore the feasibility of measuring academic journals＇ yearly social impact by using altmetric indicators. Design/methodology/approach： Using a sample of 66 SSCI joumals in LIS published in 2013, statistics regarding journal mentions in social media and other online tools were retrieved from *** and meanwhile citation data was also collected from JCR and Scopus. Based on the method of principal component analysis, data was analyzed for associations between the altmetric and traditional metrics to demonstrate the effect ofaltmetric indicators on measuring academic j oumals＇ yearly impact. Findings： The Spearman＇s rank correlation test results show that altmetric indicators and traditional citation counts were significantly correlated, indicating that altmetrics can be used to measure a journal＇s yearly social impact. Research limitations： The time frame of data collected from *** may not be consistent with that of JCR and Scopus citation data. Practical implications： A new method is provided based on altmetrics for evaluating the social impact of academic journals, which can be applied to design new indicators of short-term journal impact. Originality value： In this paper, we have established a method for evaluating the social impact of academic journals based on altmetric indictors. Altmetrics can be complementary to traditional citation metrics in assessing a journal＇s impact within a year or even in a shorter period of time.

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a kind of imaging modality, which offers clearer images of soft tissues than computed tomography (CT). It is especially suitable for brain disease detection. It is beneficial to detect diseases automatically and accurately. We proposed a pathological brain detection method based on brain MR images and online sequential extreme learning machine. First, seven wavelet entropies (WE) were extracted from each brain MR image to form the feature vector. Then, an online sequential extreme learning machine (OS-ELM) was trained to differentiate pathological brains from the healthy controls. The experiment results over 132 brain MRIs showed that the proposed approach achieved a sensitivity of 93.51%, a specificity of 92.22%, and an overall accuracy of 93.33%, which suggested that our method is effective.
