The role of trifocal tensor in three views is similar to basic matrix in two views. It includes projective geometric relations among the three views which do not depend on the structure of the scenery. According to the traditional trifocal tensor calculation. The algorithm precision relies on initial value selection and lacks robustness. The calculation is very complex but the results are not accurate. This paper puts forward a trifocal tensor calculation method based on simulated annealing algorithm. This method overcomes the problem of local minimum and initial value dependence in the majorization process by optimizing the pole coordinates and error through the method of simulated annealing algorithm, and it can get the global optimal solution. Matlab simulation experiment results show that the proposed trifocal tensor calculation method based on simulated annealing algorithm is correct and effective.

Few-shot learning aims for rapid adaptation with few samples. Recently, cross-granularity few-shot learning has emerged as a promising research area, where models observe coarse labels but target fine-grained recognition among novel classes. As coarse supervision tends to eliminate feature discrimination among underlying sub-classes, existing methods commonly utilize self-supervision as a complement to explore intra-class variation. However, current methods suffer from an intrinsic conflict between contrastive learning and coarse supervision. In this paper, we locate the root cause of the intrinsic conflict. Then, we resolve it by exploiting the similarity among augmented views while ignoring the unreasonable constraint between negative pairs. Besides, we decouple contrastive learning and coarse supervision into parallel branches to better regularize the latent space. Albeit simple, our approach consistently outperforms state-of-the-art methods across different benchmarks. © 2023 IEEE.

A new scheme of object tracking with mean shift is put forward in this paper. At first, texture feature is fused in the processing by Local Ternary Pattern (LTP). Since LTP is sensitive to local noise, least median of squares (LMedS) algorithm is used to adaptively calculate the noise threshold for accurate estimation of the LTP texture information. Furthermore, target scale and orientation is estimated in case of partial occlusion or rotation, so as to realize robust object tracking. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm can acquire robust tracking performance under complex background .

Disparity estimation is an important technique in stereo video coding. This paper presents a disparity estimation algorithm based on edge detection. The algorithm makes full use of the human visual characteristics, that is, the human eye is more sensitive to the distortion of the edge region. Therefore, joint estimation is used for edge detection. The large code block size for coding the background region and the flat areas while small size for coding the edge region were used in this paper. Compared to the disparity estimation algorithm proposed in 181, the proposed algorithm can greatly improve the encoding speed of stereo video without affecting subjective image quality.

Face recognition (FR) systems are easily constrained by complex environmental situations in the wild. To ensure the accuracy of FR systems, face image quality assessment (FIQA) is applied to reject low-quality face image unsuitable for recognition. Face quality can be defined as the accuracy or confidence of face images being correctly recognized by FR systems, which is desired to be consistent with recognition results. However, current FIQA methods show more or less inconsistency with face recognition due to the following four biases, including implicit constraint, quality labels, regression models, and backbone networks. In order to reduce such biases and enhance the consistency between FR and FIQA, this paper proposes a FIAQ method based on Learning to rank (L2R) algorithm and vision Transformer named L2RT-FIQA. L2RT-FIQA consists of three parts: relative quality labels, L2R framework, and vision Transformer backbone. Specifically, we utilize normalized intra-class and inter-class angular distance to generate relative quality labels;we employ L2R model to focus more on the quality order rather than the absolute quality value;we apply unpretrained vision transformer as our backbone to improve generalization and global information learning. Experimental results show our L2RT-FIQA effectively reduces the aforementioned four kinds of biases and outperforms other state-of-the-art FIQA methods on several challenging benchmarks. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Distributed video coding (DVC) is a novel video coding paradigm. One approach to DVC is Wyner-Ziv distributed video coding. The accuracy of the correlation noise model can influence the performance of the video coder directly. In order to enhance the accuracy of the distribution model, EM algorithm based mixture Laplace-uniform distribution model and basic Laplace-uniform distribution model for DCT alternating current coefficients are established. Then the model is selected adaptively using fuzzy inference. Experimental results suggest that the proposed mixture correlation noise model can describe the heavy tail and sudden change of the noise accurately at high rate and make significant improvement on the coding efficiency compared with the DISCOVER's noise model. Meanwhile, fuzzy inference based adaptive noise model selection method can reduce the operation complexity to some extent, while not influencing rate-distortion performance.

Error concealment can be regarded as a sort of error resilient coding techniques. This paper proposes a method to recover lost blocks in stereoscopic images. We first utilize the correlation to perform disparity estimation to match the corresponding blocks for lost ones. And then we calculate the boundary smooth degree (BSD) for each recovered block. If BSD exceeds the threshold, it means that the boundary is discontinuous which mainly results from high detailed blocks, edge blocks or occluded blocks. So we consider neighboring blocks' BSD and estimate the content of a lost block, and adaptively use different methods to conceal it. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm can greatly improve the subjective and objective quality of the reconstructed image.

In this paper, we establish a novel bimodal emotion database from physiological signals and facial expression, which is named as PSFE. The physiological signals and facial expression of the PSFE database are respectively recorded by the equipment of the BIOPAC MP 150 and the Kinect for Windows in the meantime. The PSFE database altogether records 32 subjects which include 11 women and 21 man, and their age distribution is from 20 to 25. Moreover, the PSFE database records three basic emotion classes containing calmness, happiness and sadness, which respectively correspond to the neutral, positive and negative emotion state. The general sample number of the PSFE database is 288 and each emotion class contains 96 samples. © Copyright 2018 The Institute of Electronics Information and communication Engineers.

Robust foreground detection is a fundamental precursor of many video processing applications. Although various approaches were advanced, there still exist many factors making detection very challenging: 1) Dynamic background with gradual brightness changes, camera movement and large amount of noises. 2) Sharp illumination changes caused by shadows, light on-off, and so on. 3) Real-time requirement for practical systems. To overcome these problems, a new approach is proposed in this paper. It is based on the background of conventional Gaussian Mixed Model, incorporating tempo-spatial consistency validation to search genuine foreground seeds, so that foreground segments can be reliably acquired using region growth method. Experiments demonstrate that our approach achieves better performance than conventional GMM approach in detection accuracy, adaptability to sudden illumination changes and computation time.

When transmitting encoded images over a communication channel, the reconstructed image quality can be substantially degraded by channel errors. This paper presents a spatial error concealment algorithm that utilizes variance of surrounding pixels, and then classifies each error block (EB) into two categories: uniform block and edge block. For uniform block, nearest border prior spatial interpolation is adopted to restore missing pixels. We use the Wiener interpolation algorithm and special interpolation sequence for edge block. Experimental results indicate the proposed algorithm can attain well restored quality of intra-frames both subjectively and objectively. Meanwhile, the computational cost of the proposed algorithm can be significantly reduced, compared to Lipsilas method. And the restored quality is almost the same, sometimes even much better.
