With the introduction of data protection regulation in various countries, traditional centralized learning for the exploitation of sensitive biological information will gradually become unsustainable. We take face and speaker recognition systems as examples, to consider the possibility of implementing them using federated learning. It is known that federated learning methods still have some issues to be solved, e.g., parameter updates delivered can still reveal user privacy. Besides, existing privacy-preserving methods such as encryption and perturbation could pose other problems, including low accuracy and high training overhead, which can be more prominent in biometric recognition scenarios. We adopt the idea of domain adaptation and propose a new federated learning framework, DAFL, focusing on the improvement of the training efficiency and model performance, to achieve a practical privacy-preserving biometric recognition scheme for the first time. We also design a special dropout method for it to address the possible imbalance of biometric samples across users. Experiments on real-world datasets show that our approach can achieve up to 95.6% and 97.9% accuracy in face recognition and speaker recognition tasks, respectively, under medium privacy settings. Compared with existing work, it can save 56.0% of training time with a 3.1% accuracy loss in the best case. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

With the rapid growth of the high-throughput biological technology, it brings biomedical big omics' data containing literature and annotated data. Especially, a wealth of relevant information exists in various types of biomedical literature. Text mining has emerged as a potential solution to achieve knowledge for bridging between the free text and structured representation of biomedical information. In this work, we used deep learning to recognize biomedical entities. We obtained 84.0% precision, 69.5% recall, and 76.1% F-score aiming at the GENIA corpus, and obtained 91.3% precision, 91.1% recall, and 91.2% F-score aiming at the BioCreAtIvE II Gene Mention corpus. Experimental results show that our proposed approach is promising for developing biomedical text mining technology in biomedical entity recognition.

intelligent Community Question Answering (CQA) system is a popular research topic in Natural Language processing (NLP) area. Recently, the development of distributed data mining has significantly improved the efficiency of the searching and sorting operations in CQA database. However, problems are left unanswered such as how to choose the best answer among multiple candidates for a single question. To solve this issue, we design a CQA system called UB-CQA. First, in database refinement part, we construct an optimized and structured database by the best answer choosing method leveraging user attribute provided by the response provider. Second, in human-computer part, the UB-CQA is able to search and provide a more satisfying answer to users by similarity calculation and re-ranking method leveraging text categorization information. Empirical evaluations show that the best answer choosing and the candidate question re-ranking methods bring great improvements in accuracy and reliability.

Named Entity Recognition (NER) is a basic task in Natural Language processing (NLP), which extracts the meaningful named entities from the text. Compared with the English NER, the Chinese NER is more challenge, since there is no tense in the Chinese language. Moreover, the omissions and the Internet catchwords in the Chinese corpus make the NER task more difficult. Traditional machine learning methods (e.g., CRFs) cannot address the Chinese NER effectively because they are hard to learn the complicated context in the Chinese language. To overcome the aforementioned problem, we propose a deep learning model Char2Vec+Bi-LSTMs for Chinese NER. We use the Chinese character instead of the Chinese word as the embedding unit, and the Bi-LSTMs is used to learn the complicated semantic dependency. To evaluate our proposed model, we construct the corpus from the China TELECOM FAQs. Experimental results show that our model achieves better performance than other baseline methods and the character embedding is more appropriate than the word embedding in the Chinese language.

With the development of information technology, the application of big data in financial aspects becomes more and more deepening. However, in the aspect of bank loans, the accuracy of traditional user loan risk prediction models, such as KNN, Bayesian, are not benefit from the data *** paper proposes to use DNN algorithm to forecast the risk of user loan based on the difficulties of current overdue prediction and the excellent learning ability of DNN. This article uses user basic information, bank records, user browsing behavior, credit card billing records, and loan time information to evaluate whether users are delinquent. Firstly, this paper record bank records according to the transaction type, respectively, to generate income and spending data. Secondly, to sum the user browsing behavior also, and to record the average of credit card bill. In addition, in order to reduce the effect of eigenvalue size on the result, all characteristics are standardized. Finally, users who lack user information are discarded and the above fields are spliced. The spliced fields are the basic input for DNN. From the experimental results, DNN algorithm inc rease over 6% prediction than kNN, Bayes algorithm.

During infectious disease outbreaks, tracking contacted objects is important for suppressing the spread of the virus and using trajectories of moving objects to discover contacted objects is one of effective approaches. Existing algorithms focus on individual contact event discovery but lack the ability to obtain the k-degree contact events. In this paper, we propose efficient k-degree contact pattern mining algorithms that are capable of mining k-degree contact events. The definition of k-degree contact event is first formulated. Based on the definition, a sliding window-based baseline k-degree contact pattern mining algorithm (KCPMA) is presented. To improve the mining efficiency, the sample-point checking strategy and R-tree index are adopted and the optimized mining algorithm (KCPMA+) is proposed. Comprehensive experiments on real datasets demonstrate that the proposed algorithms are effective and efficient in mining k-degree contact events.

We consider barrier coverage applications where a set of UAVs are deployed to monitor whether intruders pass through a line, i.e., the barrier. Due to limited energy supply of UAVs, a charging pile is used to recharge UAVs. The problem is to place UAVs on top of the barrier and schedule them to the charging pile such that the barrier is seamlessly covered and the total number of UAVs is minimized. We decompose the problem into subproblems by dividing the barrier into disjoint subsegments and covering each subsegment independently. We prove a theoretical lower bound on the minimum number of UAVs required to cover the barrier forever. We then propose two scheduling strategies. In the first strategy, only fully recharged backup UAVs will be scheduled to take over UAVs running out of energy. If there are enough UAVs, this strategy can cover the barrier forever. The second strategy is proposed to deal with the situation that the number of UAVs is insufficient. Under the strategy, if no backup UAV is fully recharged, the one with the most battery energy will be selected to take over the monitoring task. When the number of UAVs is insufficient, the barrier can still be covered for a long time. We analytically derive the number of UAVs required by the first strategy, and the monitoring duration of the second strategy in case of insufficient UAVs. Simulations verify the effectiveness of the proposed solutions.

Due to the limitation of hardware resources, the traditional people flow monitoring system based on computer vision in public places can't meet different crowd-scale scenarios. Therefore, a people flow monitoring system based on MD-MCNN algorithm is designed, which is an application system combining the improved SSD object detection algorithm MNSSD and MCNN density map regression algorithm. In the initial stage, the system uses MNSSD for accurate detection and counting. If the people flow gradually reaches a certain threshold, the system automatically uses MCNN to estimate people flow until the people flow falls below the threshold. Through the experimental verification, the system can realize the people flow statistics of low-density and high-density people in different scenarios, and can be applied on the existing embedded platform. This scheme can be extended to smart cities, smart scenic spots, smart transportation and other fields. © 2020 Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

The mobile robot adapts to the more complicated indoor and outdoor environments, and can expand its scope of application. In order to reduce the influence of the cumulative error caused by navigation in complex environments, the indoor mobile robot that combines Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) and encoder fusion is designed and implemented. In view of the limitations of the traditional single lidar scheme, a Multi-sensor Fusion scheme is proposed to achieve indoor map construction, path planning, multi-point navigation and other functions, and a MSIF KartoSLAM (Multi-sensor Information Fusion) algorithm is proposed, which combines the KartoSLAM algorithm and Multi-sensor information to achieve map construction in complex environments. Through comprehensive testing in the indoor environment, the results show that the Multi-sensor Fusion scheme is superior to the traditional single lidar scheme, and can achieve higher accuracy in mapping and navigation. At the same time, the robot platform can also be combined with the Internet of Things technology and integrated into intelligent housing system. © 2020 Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Temporal data fusion at the edge

—As an enabler technique, data fusion has gained great attention in the context of Internet of things (IoT). In traditional settings, data fusion is done at the cloud server. So the data to be fused should be transferred from the sensor nodes to the cloud server before data fusion. Such an application mode of data fusion inherits disturbing concerns from the cloud computing framework, e.g., privacy-leaking, large latency between data capture and computation, excessive ingress bandwidth consumption. We take into account how to do temporal data fusion at the edge to bypass the above issues. We present a Gaussian process based temporal data fusion (GPTDF) method targeted for the problem of sequential online prediction at the edge. The GPTDF method fits the edge computing framework and thus inherits desirable properties from edge computing, such as privacy-preserving, low latency between data capture and computation, and tiny bandwidth consumption. Through a real-data experiment using archived traffic datasets from the Caltrans Performance Measurement System (PeMS), we demonstrate that the application of GPTDF can provide more timely and accurate real-time predictions at the network edge.
