Digital fountain codes are designed to realize a reliable transmission of large-scale data and Luby Transform (LT) codes are the first practical digital fountain codes to be realized. Luby discovered that the performance and decoding efficiency are mainly determined by the degree distribution used in LT codes. So this paper focuses on designing good degree distributions for LT codes over the binary erasure channel (BEC). An improved approach to optimize the degree distribution is proposed based on the asymptotic analysis of LT codes. More importantly, the overhead and the desired erasure ratio pair set for the proposed optimization model can be realized in the asymptotic analysis of the optimal degree distribution. Simulation results show that the optimal degree distribution can provide better bit erasure ratio performance especially at low overheads.

In this paper, a three stages fountain codes-based two-way multiply-and-forward (MF) relaying system over the Rayleigh flat fading channel is proposed, where two source nodes communicate with each other through a relay node and all nodes work on half-duplex and time-division mode. The signals during all three stages thoroughly in the proposed system are analyzed and the equivalent point-to-point channel model is further provided. Using the method developed for fountain codes optimization, this paper finally puts forth an optimization model for the MF-two-way relay network (MF-TWRN) with fountain codes. Simulation results show that our optimized degree distribution can provide outstanding bit-error-rate (BER) performance for the MF-TWRN.

In this paper, we study the mutual information between the received signals and the sources in the uniform linear array. We derive a theoretical expression of DOA information and closed-form expression of scattering information in the presence of additive Gaussian noise. Particularly, a new definition of the angular resolution is proposed on the basis of the scattering information. The upper bound of the resolution is derived, which is different from the traditional angular resolution. We use two-dimensional maximum likelihood estimation (MLE) to verify that the angular resolution can be less than the reciprocal of aperture bandwidth in the high SNR regime, which is different from the one-dimensional MLE used in traditional angular resolution. The result in this paper has important guiding significance for array signal processing in the actual environment. © 2019 IEEE.

Over the last decade, transfer learning has attracted a great deal of attention as a new learning paradigm, based on which fault diagnosis (FD) approaches have been intensively developed to improve the safety and reliability of modern automation systems. Because of inevitable factors such as the varying work environment, performance degradation of components, and heterogeneity among similar automation systems, the FD method having long-term applicabilities becomes attractive. Motivated by these facts, transfer learning has been an indispensable tool that endows the FD methods with self-learning and adaptive abilities. On the presentation of basic knowledge in this field, a comprehensive review of transfer learning-motivated FD methods, whose two subclasses are developed based on knowledge calibration and knowledge compromise, is carried out in this survey paper. Finally, some open problems, potential research directions, and conclusions are highlighted. Different from the existing reviews of transfer learning, this survey focuses on how to utilize knowledge specifically for the FD tasks, based on which three principles and a new classification strategy of transfer learning-motivated FD techniques are also presented. We hope this work will constitute a timely contribution to transfer learning-motivated techniques regarding the FD topic. © 2022, CC BY.

Based on the radar communication integration, this paper considers a scene where the radar performs target-detection and then sends the echo information to the control center via a communication link. According to the law of electromagnetic wave propagation, the echo power is inversely proportional to the fourth power of the distance between targets and the radar, while received power at the control center is inversely proportional to the square of the communication distance. It can be seen that shortening the target-radar distance can effectively improve the system's performance. Different from traditional radar communication integration which mainly focused on the integrated signals' and systems' design, this paper innovatively establishes an information model of radar communication system where the performance is evaluated by the location mutual information. Combining with the Shannon channel capacity theorem, an optimized power allocation method under the limited total power is presented to maximize the sensing information obtained by the radar communication system. Numerical results show that the power can be saved by 4dB to 7.8dB under the optimization of the proposed system. © 2019 IEEE.

Suspension system, the base of the traction system, whose reliability is of critical importance to the safety of the CRH (China Railway High-speed) train. Incipient FDD (Fault Detection and Diagnosis) of suspension faults can improve the reliability and avoid serious failures in the entire traction systems. Such that, the incipient FDD of spring and damper, the core component of suspension system is urgently demanded. In this paper, a discrete mathematical model for suspension system of a three-car multiple unit is established firstly, based on which, the track irregularities (deterministic disturbances) and then the incipient reduction of spring and damper coefficient (incipient component faults) are further modeled. After that, a data-driven total measurable fault information residual (ToMFIR) based incipient fault detection method is proposed for the possible incipient spring and damper faults. Finally, the proposed theoretical results are applied to a CRH supension simulation system. Simulation results show that the incipient fault detection scheme proposed in this paper provides high sensitivity to incipient suspension faults (spring and damper coefficients reduction of 15% slowly), which has certain reference value in practical engineering applications. © 2019 IEEE.

Radar super-resolution technology studies have shown that the resolution of radar systems can exceed the traditional physical limit resolution. However, the super-resolution technology lacks analysis from aspects of information theory. In this paper, we propose a new definition of range resolution according to a series of information- theoretic analysis of the radar system for multiple target detection. With the definition, we prove the achievability of the super-resolution technology from the perspective of information theory. First, we derive a theoretical expression of range information and closed-form expression of scattering information for multiple complex Gaussian scattering targets in the presence of complex additive white Gaussian noise (CAWGN). Then, we define the new range resolution in the view of information theory and derive the upper bound of the range resolution 2/ρβ, which is different from the traditional range resolution 1/B, where ρ 2 denotes the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), B denotes the bandwidth and β 2 denotes the root mean square bandwidth. Finally, We use two-dimensional maximum likelihood estimation (MLE) to verify that the range resolution can be less than 2/ρβ in the high SNR regime, which is different from the one-dimensional MLE used in traditional range resolution.

LWS based PCA subspace ensemble model for soft sensor development

Most regression approaches, such as principal component analysis (PCA), are based on an assumption that the process data follow a Gaussian distribution. However, the process data usually dissatisfy that assumption. Thus, the locally weighted standardization (LWS) method is employed for transforming data into an approximate Gaussian distribution. Furthermore, the LWS based subspace PCA ensemble modeling method is developed. The subspace PCA can select important variables in each subspace for ensemble modeling. As a result, the proposed method gives a weaker assumption constrain and a better regression performance. The effectiveness of this approach is testified by two study cases. © 2018
