There is a recent interest in developing statistical filtering methods for stochastic optimization (FSO) by leveraging a probabilistic perspective of incremental proximity methods (IPMs). The existent FSO methods are derived based on the Kalman filter (KF) and extended KF (EKF). Different from classical stochastic optimization methods such as the stochastic gradient descent (SGD) and typical IPMs, such KF-type algorithms possess a desirable property, namely they do not require pre-scheduling of the learning rate for convergence. However, on the other side, they have inherent limitations inherited from the nature of KF mechanisms. It is a consensus that the class of particle filters (PFs) outperforms the KF and its variants remarkably for nonlinear and/or non-Gaussian statistical filtering tasks. Hence, it is natural to ask if the FSO methods can benefit from the PF theory to get around of limitations of the KF-type stochastic optimization methods. We provide an affirmative answer to the aforementioned question by developing two PF based stochastic optimizers (PFSOs). For performance evaluation, we apply them to address nonlinear least-square fitting using simulated data sets and empirical risk minimization for binary classification using real data sets. Experimental results demonstrate that PFSOs outperform remarkably existent methods in terms of numerical stability, convergence speed, and flexibility in handling different types of loss functions. Over the recent years, ontologies are widely used in the biomedical domains. However, biomedical ontology heterogeneity problem hamper the cooperation between intelligent applications based on biomedical ontologies. It is crucial to establish correspondences between the heterogeneous biomedical concepts in different ontologies, which is so-called biomedical ontology matching. Approaches based on Multi-Objective Evolutionary Algorithm (MOEA), such as NSGA-II, are emerging as a new methodology to solve the ontology matching problem. In this paper, to further improve the quality of biomedical ontology alignments, a hybrid NSGA-II is proposed, which modifies the knee solutions in the Pareto front by using a local search method. Experiment utilizes two biomedical ontology matching tracks provided by Ontology Alignment Evaluation Initiative (OAEI 2017). The experimental results show that our approach outperforms the participants of OAEI 2017 and NSGA-II based ontology matching technique. © Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2019.

Robust Particle Filtering via Bayesian Nonparametric Outlier Modeling

This paper is concerned with the online estimation of a nonlinear dynamic system from a series of noisy measurements. The focus is on cases wherein outliers are present in-between normal noises. We assume that the outliers follow an unknown generating mechanism which deviates from that of normal noises, and then model the outliers using a Bayesian nonparametric model called Dirichlet process mixture (DPM). A sequential particle-based algorithm is derived for posterior inference for the outlier model as well as the state of the system to be estimated. The resulting algorithm is termed DPM based robust PF (DPM-RPF). The nonparametric feature makes this algorithm allow the data to "speak for itself" to determine the complexity and structure of the outlier model. Simulation results show that it performs remarkably better than two state-of-the-art methods especially when outliers appear frequently along time. Copyright © 2018, The Authors. iSplit LBI: Individualized partial ranking with ties via split LBI

Due to the inherent uncertainty of data, the problem of predicting partial ranking from pairwise comparison data with ties has attracted increasing interest in recent years. However, in real-world scenarios, different individuals often hold distinct preferences. It might be misleading to merely look at a global partial ranking while ignoring personal diversity. In this paper, instead of learning a global ranking which is agreed with the consensus, we pursue the tie-aware partial ranking from an individualized perspective. Particularly, we formulate a unified framework which not only can be used for individualized partial ranking prediction, but also be helpful for abnormal user selection. This is realized by a variable splitting-based algorithm called iSplitLBI. Specifically, our algorithm generates a sequence of estimations with a regularization path, where both the hyperparameters and model parameters are updated. At each step of the path, the parameters can be decomposed into three orthogonal parts, namely, abnormal signals, personalized signals and random noise. The abnormal signals can serve the purpose of abnormal user selection, while the abnormal signals and personalized signals together are mainly responsible for individual partial ranking prediction. Extensive experiments on simulated and real-world datasets demonstrate that our new approach significantly outperforms state-of-the-art alternatives. This paper is concerned with dynamic system state estimation based on a series of noisy measurement with the presence of outliers. An incremental learning assisted particle filtering (ILAPF) method is presented, which can learn the value range of outliers incrementally during the process of particle filtering. The learned range of outliers is then used to improve subsequent filtering of the future state. Convergence of the outlier range estimation procedure is indicated by extensive empirical simulations using a set of differing outlier distribution models. The validity of the ILAPF algorithm is evaluated by illustrative simulations, and the result shows that ILAPF is more accurate and faster than a recently published state-of-the-art robust particle filter. It also shows that the incremental learning property of the ILAPF algorithm provides an efficient way to implement transfer learning among related state filtering tasks.

With the development of positioning technology, sensor-based positioning has become the most commonly used positioning method because it is more low-cost and efficient with the popularity of smart phones. In this paper, we construct a pedestrian real-time offline positioning and moving trajectory tracking system (HERMES) which only relies on the sensors inside smart phones. In HERMES, based on Pedestrian Dead Reckoning (PDR) model, a stable and accurate pedestrian gait recognition is achieved through the rare double sliding window, the pedestrian step length is estimated in real time by a training pedestrian step length model, and the pedestrian real-time course angle is available through orientation sensor inside smart phones. Thus, if given a pedestrian's initial position, the system can implement the real-time offline pedestrian positioning and moving trajectory tracking. Experiments show the pedestrian gait recognition algorithm implemented in this paper has a high accuracy and the positioning effect is satisfactory. The moving trajectory tracked by the HERMES has a small deviation from the experimenter's actual trajectory.

Reasonable route planning for taxi can not only improve quality of customer experience, but also maximize the benefit of taxi drivers. Most current taxi planning schemes are designed to achieve the shortest route or the shortest time, not to achieve the best profit. In this paper, we propose a route planning scheme with best profit for taxi (RPSBPT). First, we define the optimal profit point and the profit per unit time function. Second, we design the workflow of data cleaning, sampling and partitioning for preprocessing the dataset of taxi trajectory. Then, we integrate the DBSCAN algorithm and the K-means algorithm to obtain the optimal profit points. Finally, the simulate anneal Algorithm (SA), the genetic algorithm (GA), and the ant colony optimization algorithm (ACO) are adopted respectively to plan route for taxi. We constructed the taxi route planning prototype system and applied the proposed route planning scheme to the system. Based on the system and the collected taxi trajectory data at the Jinjiang district of the Chengdu city, we performed a series of experiments to compare the performance of three heuristic algorithms, including optimal route length, algorithm stability, total profit and profitability per unit time. Experimental results show that ACO has the best performance.

Large-scale complex networks show complex nonlinear relationships among objects, such as the social relationships in the real world, the citation relationship among papers and the interactions among proteins in biology. The analysis of complex network systems make it possible to reveal network structures, information disseminating laws, and communication patterns. Network representation learning (NRL) algorithms focus on mapping the original network structure information to a low-dimensional vector space through a series of operations under the premise of maximally retaining the network structure. In order to analyze current representative NRL algorithms effectively to provide valuable references for other researchers, we built an experimental platform to perform and test the NRL algorithms based on matrix factorization, the NRL algorithms based on shallow neural network and the NRL algorithms based on deep neural network, with datasets on Collaboration Network, Social Network and Citation Network. We implemented a series of comprehensive experiments, based on metrics include precision@k, micro-F1 and macro-F1. Our experiments include network reconstruction, vertex classification, and link prediction, and show readers principles, performances and applications of typical NRL algorithms.

In large-scale SDN network, a single centralized controller can not meet the demand, and multiple controllers are needed to deal with the problem, which leads to the problem of multi control balanced deployment. In this paper, the topology of SDN switches and links is known. The main research contents are as follows: the mathematical model of SDN multi controller deployment is established, and the appropriate network topology is selected and the multi controller deployment problem is solved. In the research, the number of controllers needed in the network and the switches managed by each controller is determined by the algorithm results, and the mapping relationship between controllers and switches is established. By analyzing the deployment results of the same network topology under different algorithms, the influence of different clustering algorithms on the experimental results is obtained. At the same time, the better deployment experiment results are simulated.

This Innovative Practice Work in Progress Paper presents a multi-dimension training scheme to improve the innovation capacity of postgraduate and undergraduate students collaboratively. The current training of postgraduate and undergraduate education schemes cannot form a mutually beneficial relation, not suitable for the training of innovation capacity on postgraduate and undergraduate students collaboratively. There are various problems that need to be addressed. The main strategy of the proposed scheme is utilizing real research programs to establish an integrated team mixed with both postgraduate and undergraduate students, focusing on stimulating their innovation capacity in scientific research. In the scheme, we designed a multi-level joint training mechanism based on the mixed pedagogy, the collaborative resource pool platform, the multi-role and team-based innovation talent incubation mechanism, and the preparatory postgraduate student selection and training goal achievement evaluation mechanism. We applied the scheme to the training process of postgraduate students from the majors of Software Engineering, Computer Software and Theory, Computer Application, Computer Technology and Electronic Information Engineering, and undergraduate students from the majors of Computer Science and Technology, Information security and Communication Engineering in Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications. The training results approve the feasibility and effectiveness of the scheme.
