Collaborative Metric Learning (CML) has recently emerged as a popular method in recommendation systems (RS), closing the gap between metric learning and Collaborative Filtering. Following the convention of RS, existing methods exploit unique user representation in their model design. This paper focuses on a challenging scenario where a user has multiple categories of interests. Under this setting, we argue that the unique user representation might induce preference bias, especially when the item category distribution is imbalanced. To address this issue, we propose a novel method called Diversity-Promoting Collaborative Metric Learning (DPCML), with the hope of considering the commonly ignored minority interest of the user. The key idea behind DPCML is to include a multiple set of representations for each user in the system. Based on this embedding paradigm, user preference toward an item is aggregated from different embeddings by taking the minimum item-user distance among the user embedding set. Furthermore, we observe that the diversity of the embeddings for the same user also plays an essential role in the model. To this end, we propose a Diversity Control Regularization Scheme (DCRS) to accommodate the multi-vector representation strategy better. Theoretically, we show that DPCML could generalize well to unseen test data by tackling the challenge of the annoying operation that comes from the minimum value. Experiments over a range of benchmark datasets speak to the efficacy of DPCML.

In real-world scenarios, laser-scanned point clouds often suffer from missing data points due to occlusion and other factors, significantly impacting subsequent tasks. We propose a novel point cloud completion method based on self-attention mechanisms and multi-layer perceptrons to address this issue, building upon the PCN model. Our experimental evaluations on the PCN dataset demonstrate notable enhancements in the completion effectiveness and evaluation metrics compared to the baseline model. Additionally, focusing on the point cloud completion context for industrial components, we introduce an approach for constructing an industrial component point cloud dataset. This method leverages 3D mesh models to swiftly generate complete point clouds with uniform distribution and devoid of noise while simulating the incomplete point clouds obtained from real-world scanning scenarios. The final results fully exhibit the feasibility of this scheme, which is a strong candidate for future industrial component point cloud completion.

This paper proposes a scene segmentation method based on optimized line detection to address the difficulty of segmenting spatially independent equipment in complex substation scenes. The method first employs the RANSAC method to simulate the ground plane and extract the ground point cloud. Then, it projects the 3D point cloud scene onto a 2D plane to obtain a 2D image of the substation. Straight line segments of the power line are extracted from the image using the edge detection algorithm and an improved line detection algorithm. The straight line segments that do not belong to the power line are filtered out using the surrounding features of the 3D point corresponding to the 2D point on the line. The power line's straight line segment is extended using the region-growing algorithm. Finally, the power line clustering is completed using European clustering based on the three-dimensional coordinates of the two ends of the power line, thereby completing the scene segmentation. Experimental results show that the proposed method can effectively segment substation equipment. Compared to traditional segmentation methods, this method has an average power line identification accuracy of 14% higher.

SinCWIm: An imputation method for single-cell RNA sequence dropouts using weighted alternating least squares

Background and objectives: Single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) provides a powerful tool for exploring cellular heterogeneity, discovering novel or rare cell types, distinguishing between tissue-specific cellular composition, and understanding cell differentiation during development. However, due to technological limitations, dropout events in scRNA-seq can mistakenly convert some entries in the real data to zero. This is equivalent to introducing noise into the data of cell gene expression entries. The data is contaminated, which affects the performance of downstream analyses, including clustering, cell annotation, differential gene expression analysis, and so on. Therefore, it is a crucial work to accurately determine which zeros are due to dropout events and perform imputation operations on them. Methods: Considering the different confidence levels of different zeros in the gene expression matrix, this paper proposes a SinCWIm method for dropout events in scRNA-seq based on weighted alternating least squares (WALS). The method utilizes Pearson correlation coefficient and hierarchical clustering to quantify the confidence of zero entries. It is then combined with WALS for matrix decomposition. And the imputation result is made close to the actual number by outlier removal and data correction operations. Results: A total of eight single-cell sequencing datasets were used for comparative experiments to demonstrate the overall superiority of SinCWIm over state-of-the-art models. SinCWIm was applied to cluster the data to obtain an adjusted RAND index evaluation, and the Usoskin, Pollen and Bladder datasets scored 94.46%, 96.48% and 76.74%, respectively. In addition, significant improvements were made in the retention of differential expression genes and visualization. Conclusions: SinCWIm provides a valuable imputation method for handling dropout events in single-cell sequencing data. iSplit LBI: Individualized partial ranking with ties via split LBI

Due to the inherent uncertainty of data, the problem of predicting partial ranking from pairwise comparison data with ties has attracted increasing interest in recent years. However, in real-world scenarios, different individuals often hold distinct preferences. It might be misleading to merely look at a global partial ranking while ignoring personal diversity. In this paper, instead of learning a global ranking which is agreed with the consensus, we pursue the tie-aware partial ranking from an individualized perspective. Particularly, we formulate a unified framework which not only can be used for individualized partial ranking prediction, but also be helpful for abnormal user selection. This is realized by a variable splitting-based algorithm called iSplitLBI. Specifically, our algorithm generates a sequence of estimations with a regularization path, where both the hyperparameters and model parameters are updated. At each step of the path, the parameters can be decomposed into three orthogonal parts, namely, abnormal signals, personalized signals and random noise. The abnormal signals can serve the purpose of abnormal user selection, while the abnormal signals and personalized signals together are mainly responsible for individual partial ranking prediction. Extensive experiments on simulated and real-world datasets demonstrate that our new approach significantly outperforms state-of-the-art alternatives. ER: Equivariance Regularizer for Knowledge Graph Completion

Tensor factorization and distanced based models play important roles in knowledge graph completion (KGC). However, the relational matrices in KGC methods often induce a high model complexity, bearing a high risk of overfitting. As a remedy, researchers propose a variety of different regularizers such as the tensor nuclear norm regularizer. Our motivation is based on the observation that the previous work only focuses on the "size" of the parametric space, while leaving the implicit semantic information widely untouched. To address this issue, we propose a new regularizer, namely, Equivariance Regularizer (ER), which can suppress overfitting by leveraging the implicit semantic information. Specifically, ER can enhance the generalization ability of the model by employing the semantic equivariance between the head and tail entities. Moreover, it is a generic solution for both distance based models and tensor factorization based models. The experimental results indicate a clear and substantial improvement over the state-of-the-art relation prediction methods. © 2022, CC BY.

Knowledge graph (KG) embeddings have shown great power in learning representations of entities and relations for link prediction tasks. Previous work usually embeds KGs into a single geometric space such as Euclidean space (zero curved), hyperbolic space (negatively curved) or hyperspherical space (positively curved) to maintain their specific geometric structures (e.g., chain, hierarchy and ring structures). However, the topological structure of KGs appears to be complicated, since it may contain multiple types of geometric structures simultaneously. Therefore, embedding KGs in a single space, no matter the Euclidean space, hyperbolic space or hyperspheric space, cannot capture the complex structures of KGs accurately. To overcome this challenge, we propose Geometry Interaction knowledge graph Embeddings (GIE), which learns spatial structures interactively between the Euclidean, hyperbolic and hyperspherical spaces. Theoretically, our proposed GIE can capture a richer set of relational information, model key inference patterns, and enable expressive semantic matching across entities. Experimental results on three well-established knowledge graph completion benchmarks show that our GIE achieves the state-of-the-art performance with fewer parameters. © 2022, CC BY.

In neighborhood rough set model, the majority rule based neighborhood classifier (NC) is easy to be misjudged with the increasing of the size of information granules. To remedy this deficiency, we propose a neighborhood collaborative classifier (NCC) based on the idea of collaborative representation based classification (CRC). NCC first performs feature selection with neighborhood rough set, and then instead of solving the classification problem by the majority rule, NCC solves a similar problem with collaborative representation among the neighbors of each unseen sample. Experiments on UCI data sets demonstrate that: 1) Our NCC achieves satisfactory performance in larger neighborhood information granules when compared with NC; 2) NCC reduces the size of dictionary when compared with CRC.

ITrace: An implicit trust inference method for trust-aware collaborative filtering

The growth of Internet commerce has stimulated the use of collaborative filtering (CF) algorithms as recommender systems. A CF algorithm recommends items of interest to the target user by leveraging the votes given by other similar users. In a standard CF framework, it is assumed that the credibility of every voting user is exactly the same with respect to the target user. This assumption is not satisfied and thus may lead to misleading recommendations in many practical applications. A natural countermeasure is to design a trust-aware CF (TaCF) algorithm, which can take account of the difference in the credibilities of the voting users when performing CF. To this end, this paper presents a trust inference approach, which can predict the implicit trust of the target user on every voting user from a sparse explicit trust matrix. Then an improved CF algorithm termed iTrace is proposed, which takes advantage of both the explicit and the predicted implicit trust to provide recommendations with the CF framework. An empirical evaluation on a public dataset demonstrates that the proposed algorithm provides a significant improvement in recommendation quality in terms of mean absolute error.

This paper explores a novel multi-modal alternating learning paradigm pursuing a reconciliation between the exploitation of uni-modal features and the exploration of cross-modal interactions. This is motivated by the fact that current paradigms of multi-modal learning tend to explore multi-modal features simultaneously. The resulting gradient prohibits further exploitation of the features in the weak modality, leading to modality competition, where the dominant modality overpowers the learning process. To address this issue, we study the modality-alternating learning paradigm to achieve reconcilement. Specifically, we propose a new method called ReconBoost to update a fixed modality each time. Herein, the learning objective is dynamically adjusted with a reconcilement regularization against competition with the historical models. By choosing a KL-based reconcilement, we show that the proposed method resembles Friedman's Gradient-Boosting (GB) algorithm, where the updated learner can correct errors made by others and help enhance the overall performance. The major difference with the classic GB is that we only preserve the newest model for each modality to avoid overfitting caused by ensembling strong learners. Furthermore, we propose a memory consolidation scheme and a global rectification scheme to make this strategy more effective. Experiments over six multi-modal benchmarks speak to the efficacy of the method. We release the code at https://***/huacong/ReconBoost.
