This paper proposes a decomposition-based multi-objective multi-factorial evolutionary algorithm (MFEA/D-M2M). The MFEA/D-M2M adopts the M2M approach to decompose multi-objective optimization problems into multiple constrained sub-problems for enhancing the diversity of population and convergence of sub-regions. An machine learning model augmented version is also been implemented, which utilized discriminative models for pre-selecting solutions. Experimental studies on nine multi-factorial optimization (MFO) problem sets are conducted. The experimental results demonstrated that MFEA/D-M2M outperforms the vanilla MFEA on six MFO benchmark problem sets and achieved comparable results on the other three problem sets with partial intersection of global optimal. © Springer International Publishing AG 2017.

MGMT promoter methylation and IDH1 mutation in high-grade gliomas (HGG) have proven to be the two important molecular indicators associated with better prognosis. Traditionally, the statuses of MGMT and IDH1 are obtained via surgical biopsy, which is laborious, invasive and time-consuming. Accurate presurgical prediction of their statuses based on preoperative imaging data is of great clinical value towards better treatment plan. In this paper, we propose a novel Multi-label Inductive Matrix Completion (MIMC) model, highlighted by the online inductive learning strategy, to jointly predict both MGMT and IDH1 statuses. Our MIMC model not only uses the training subjects with possibly missing MGMT/IDH1 labels, but also leverages the unlabeled testing subjects as a supplement to the limited training dataset. More importantly, we learn inductive labels, instead of directly using transductive labels, as the prediction results for the testing subjects, to alleviate the overfitting issue in small-sample-size studies. Furthermore, we design an optimization algorithm with guaranteed convergence based on the block coordinate descent method to solve the multivariate non-smooth MIMC model. Finally, by using a precious single-center multi-modality presurgical brain imaging and genetic dataset of primary HGG, we demonstrate that our method can produce accurate prediction results, outperforming the previous widely-used single- or multi-task machine learning methods. This study shows the promise of utilizing imaging-derived brain connectome phenotypes for prognosis of HGG in a non-invasive manner. © Springer International Publishing AG 2017.

Construction and application of Red5 cluster based on OpenStack

With the application and development of cloud computing technology in various fields, the resource utilization rate of the data center has been improved obviously, and the system based on cloud computing platform has also improved the expansibility and stability. In the traditional way, Red5 cluster resource utilization is low and the system stability is poor. This paper uses cloud computing to efficiently calculate the resource allocation ability, and builds a Red5 server cluster based on OpenStack. Multimedia applications can be published to the Red5 cloud server cluster. The system achieves the flexible construction of computing resources, but also greatly improves the stability of the cluster and service efficiency.

An openstack-based flexible video transcoding framework in live

With the rapid development of mobile live business, transcoding HD video is often a challenge for mobile devices due to their limited processing capability and bandwidth-constrained network connection. For live service providers, it’s wasteful for resources to delay lots of transcoding server because some of them are free to work sometimes. To deal with this issue, this paper proposed an Openstack-based flexible transcoding framework to achieve real-time video adaption for mobile device and make computing resources used efficiently. To this end, we introduced a special method of video stream splitting and VMs resource scheduling based on access pressure prediction,which is forecasted by an AR model.

Single image super resolution (SR) aims to estimate high resolution (HR) image from the low resolution (LR) one, and estimating accuracy of HR image gradient is very important for edge directed image SR methods. In this paper, we propose a novel edge directed image SR method by learning simple priors by mapping functions. Recognizing that the training samples of the given sub-set for regression should have similar local geometric structure based on clustering, we employ high frequency of LR image patches with removing the mean value to perform such clustering. Then we learn effective mapping functions of gradient of bicubic image patches and that of HR image patches for each cluster. Experimental results suggest that the proposed method can achieve better gradient estimation of HR image and competitive SR quality compared with other SR methods. © 2016 ICIC International.

This paper presents a decolorization method using gradient and saliency as the maintained features in the conversion to preserve the local and global visual perception. First, we construct a linear parametric mapping function of RGB color channels. Then, we calculate the feature value of each pixel in the color image and the parameterized grayscale image, the feature value integrates the pixel gradient and region saliency. Finally, we search for the parameters which can get the minimum of the total differences between the feature values of color and grayscale images, and substitute into the linear parametric function to get the decolorization result. To enhance the efficiency of getting the best parameters, we properly relax the strict computation formulas of the gradient and saliency to construct a linear least square problem, and obtain the optimal parameters by solving optimization. Experimental results show that our method using the discrete searching strategy can maintain the contrasts meanwhile avoid the excessive enlargement of the contrasts during the color-to-gray conversion, this property guarantees the preserving of the visual perception. Our method using the linear least square strategy can reduce the computation time and frequently get the similar results with our discrete searching method. © 2016 SERSC.

Most stereoscopic 3D (S3D) image visual discomfort predictors use the Support Vector Regressor (SVR) as the regression model. However, there are other good regression models such as the Random Forests (RF) and Gradient Boost Regression Tree (GBRT). Here we study the efficacy of these regression models for S3D image visual discomfort prediction. We deployed several regression models to predict the visual discomfort scores on S3D images using three kinds of features extracted from the images in the IEEE-SA and EPFL S3D image databases. So the prediction performance was evaluated to compare the performance of the different regression models. We also studied the issue of over-fitting which can affect model performance. The comparison results show that it is feasible and reliable to apply Random Forests or GBRT for S3D visual discomfort prediction with better performance than SVR.

Traditional video synopsis methods model the processing into an optimization formula where relations among objects such as collision cost are utilized while entire re-calculation is introduced under each possible temporal shift. Unlike the pairwise cost optimization, we propose a low-complexity and efficient online synopsis method where each tube is processed independently. Without tubes' comparison, the rearrangement is accomplished by a simple projection strategy and an updating projection matrix which records the newest information of the moving space. Furthermore, buffer and a predefined fitness condition also help to increase spatial and temporal utilization. Experiment results demonstrate that the proposed method is superior to other synopsis methods in the processing speed and temporal consistency.

With the popularity of stereoscopic 3D (S3D) images and videos, many advanced objective quality assessment methods have been proposed to evaluate viewers' Quality of Experience (QoE). Among them, most algorithms take advantages of the disparity maps to extract useful features. On the other hand, deep learning has been one of the hottest research topics during these years, but limited efforts focused on the field in objective quality evaluation of S3D images. In this paper, we propose a S3D image quality assessment (S3D IQA) method based on deep learning. In this method, the Convolutional Restricted Boltzmann Machines (CRBM) combined with Factored Third-Order RBM (FTO-RBM) is considered as learning model to extract feature maps from pre-processed left and right images automatically. Then an improved traversal algorithm based on two pooling strategies is put forward to optimize extracted feature maps, which improves the final quality assessment performance significantly. Experimental results show that our S3D IQA method achieves good performance on 3D databases tested.

Since the lighting conditions in strong contrast regions between the light and dark cant be estimated accurately by traditional center/surround Retinex algorithm, the over-enhancement and color distortion may exist. In view of this, combining with the human visual characteristics, a color image enhancement algorithm based on tone-preserving was proposed. A determination function was added to the bilateral filter to estimate illuminance image more accurately and weaken over-enhancement. According to human visual masking effect, the improved gamma correction was utilized to correct the brightness of illumination image adaptively and the local contrast of reflection image obtained by division was enhanced based on local statistics. Besides, the final enhanced image was obtained by combining illumination image with reflection image, which can make image appear more natural. Compared with other similar algorithms from both subjective and objective aspects, the results show that this method being applied to low-contrast color image enhancement can not only improve image clarity, but reduce color distortion.
