SIFT (Scale Invariant Feature Transform) is used to solve visual tracking problem, where the appearances of the tracked object and scene background change during tracking. The implementation of this algorithm has five major stages: scale-space extrema detection;keypoint localization;orientation assignment;keypoint descriptor;keypoint matching. From the beginning frame, object is selected as the template, its SIFT features are computed. Then in the following frames, the SIFT features are computed. Euclidean distance between the object's SIFT features and the frames' SIFT features can be used to compute the accurate position of the matched object. The experimental results on real video sequences demonstrate the effectiveness of this approach and show this algorithm is of higher robustness and real-time performance. It can solve the matching problem with translation, rotation and affine distortion between images. It plays an important role in video object tracking and video object retrieval. © 2008 IEEE.

This paper mainly presents two approaches for image retrieval. There is some faintness in color locating in quantification boundary when image color is quantized. The membership function in fuzzy set theory can describe the fuzzy transition preferably. In this paper, the membership function in HSI color space is adopted to solve the problem above. At the same time, spatial information is integrated with color feature to describe the image content more truly. Due to the importance of texture feature, gray concurrence matrix is extracted. In the second part of this paper, retrieval scheme combining four image feature descriptors is presented, and then follows Fuzzy Hamming Distance (FHD) which is used as a fuzzy similarity measure. We have performed an experiment on a 1000 images database and our results show higher retrieval accuracy. © 2008 IEEE.

Event anaphora resolution plays a critical role in discourse analysis. This paper proposes a tree kernel- based framework for event pronoun resolution. In particular, a new tree expansion scheme is introduced to automatically determine a proper parse tree structure for event pronoun resolution by considering various kinds of competitive information related with the anaphor and the antecedent candidate. Evaluation on the OntoNotes English corpus shows the appropriateness of the tree kernel-based framework and the effectiveness of competitive information for event pronoun resolution.

This paper proposes a unified framework for zero anaphora resolution, which can be divided into three sub-tasks: zero anaphor detection, anaphoricity determination and antecedent identification. In particular, all the three sub-tasks are addressed using tree kernel-based methods with appropriate syntactic parse tree structures. Experimental results on a Chinese zero anaphora corpus show that the proposed tree kernel-based methods significantly outperform the feature-based ones. This indicates the critical role of the structural information in zero anaphora resolution and the necessity of tree kernel-based methods in modeling such structural information. To our best knowledge, this is the first systematic work dealing with all the three sub-tasks in Chinese zero anaphora resolution via a unified framework. Moreover, we release a Chinese zero anaphora corpus of 100 documents, which adds a layer of annotation to the manually-parsed sentences in the Chinese Treebank (CTB) 6.0. © 2010 Association for Computational Linguistics.

Negative and uncertain expressions widely exist in natural language. Negation and uncertainty identification has become an important task in computational linguistics community. Lacking of corpus hinders the development of Chinese negation and uncertainty identification. This paper reports on a corpus annotation project for Chinese negation and uncertainty identification on scientific literature. We introduce several important aspects during our annotation, such as selection of raw text, framework of annotation, guidelines, data consistency and statistic data summarized from corpus. In this corpus, we annotate negation and uncertainty cues and their corresponding scopes. Statistic for corpus shows that there are a certain proportion of negative and uncertain expressions in Chinese scientific literature. Accordingly, this corpus is able to support the research of Chinese negation and uncertainty identification in the future. © 2013 Springer-Verlag.

Knowledge of noun phrase anaphoricity might be profitably exploited in coreference resolution to bypass the resolution of non-anaphoric noun phrases. However, it is surprising to notice that recent attempts to incorporate automatically acquired anaphoricity information into coreference resolution have been somewhat disappointing. This paper employs a global learning method in determining the anaphoricity of noun phrases via a lab.l propagation algorithm to improv. learning-based coreference resolution. In particular, two kinds of kernels, i.e. the feature-based RBF kernel and the convolution tree kernel, are employed to compute the anaphoricity similarity between two noun phrases. Experiments on the ACE 2003 corpus demonstrate the effectiveness of our method in anaphoricity determination of noun phrases and its application in learning-based coreference resolution. © 2009 ACL and AFNLP.

This paper presents and implements an approach to parallel ACO algorithms. The principal idea is to make multiple ant colonies share and utilize only one pheromone matrix. We call it SHOP (SHaring One Pheromone matrix) approach. We apply this idea to the two currently best instances of ACO sequential algorithms (MMAS and ACS), and try to hybridize these two different ACO instances. We mainly describe how to design parallel ACS and MMAS based on SHOP. We present our computing results of applying our approach to solving 10 symmetric traveling salesman problems, and give comparisons with the relevant sequential versions under the fair computing environment. The experimental results indicate that SHOP-ACO algorithms perform overall better than the sequential ACO algorithms in both the computation time and solution quality. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2006.

A rule-based approach for Chinese zero anaphor detection is proposed. Given a parse tree, the smallest IP sub-tree covering the current predicate is captured. Based on this IP sub-tree, some rules are proposed for detecting whether a Chinese zero anaphor exists. This paper also systematically evaluates the rule-based method on OntoNotes corpus. Using golden parse tree, our method achieves 82.45 in F-measure. And the F-measure is 63.84 using automatic parser. The experiment results show that our method is very effective on Chinese zero anaphor detection. © 2011 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.

This paper presents a topic-driven framework for generating a generic summary from multi-documents. Our approach is based on the intuition that, from the statistical point of view, the summary's probability distribution over the topics should be consistent with the multi-documents'probability distribution over the inherent topics. Here, the topics are defined as weighted "bag-of-words" and derived by Latent Dirichlet Allocation from a collection of documents, either the given multi-documents or a related large-scale corpus. In this sense, we could represent various kinds of text units, such as word, sentence, summary, document and multi-documents, using a single vector space model via their corresponding probability distributions over the derived topics. Therefore, we are able to extract a sentence or summary by calculating the similarity between a sentence/summary and the given multi-documents via their topic probability distributions. In particular, we propose two methods in similarity measurement: the static method and the dynamic method. While the former is employed to detect the salience of information in a static way, the later further controls redundancy in a dynamic way. In addition, we integrate various popular features to improv. the performance. Evaluation on the TAC 2008 update summarization task shows encouraging results. © 2010 IEEE.

In this paper, we employ the centering theory in pronoun resolution from the semantic perspective. First, diverse semantic role features with regard to different predicates in a sentence are explored. Moreover, given a pronominal anaphor, its relative ranking among all the pronouns in a sentence, according to relevant semantic role information and its surface position, is incorporated. In particular, the use of both the semantic role features and the relative pronominal ranking feature in pronoun resolution is guided by extending the centering theory from the grammatical level to the semantic level in tracking the local discourse focus. Finally, detailed pronominal subcategory features are incorporated to enhance the discriminative power of both the semantic role features and the relative pronominal ranking feature. Experimental results on the ACE 2003 corpus show that the centering-motivated features contribute much to pronoun resolution. © 2009 ACL and AFNLP.
