Research on two-dimensional(2D) materials has been explosively increasing in last seventeen years in varying subjects including condensed matter physics, electronic engineering, materials science, and chemistry since the mechanical exfoliation of graphene in 2004. Starting from graphene, 2D materials now have become a big family with numerous members and diverse categories. The unique structural features and physicochemical properties of 2D materials make them one class of the most appealing candidates for a wide range of potential applications. In particular, we have seen some major breakthroughs made in the field of 2D materials in last five years not only in developing novel synthetic methods and exploring new structures/properties but also in identifying innovative applications and pushing forward commercialisation. In this review, we provide a critical summary on the recent progress made in the field of 2D materials with a particular focus on last five years. After a brief backgroundintroduction, we first discuss the major synthetic methods for 2D materials, including the mechanical exfoliation, liquid exfoliation, vapor phase deposition, and wet-chemical synthesis as well as phase engineering of 2D materials belonging to the field of phase engineering of nanomaterials(PEN). We then introduce the superconducting/optical/magnetic properties and chirality of 2D materials along with newly emerging magic angle 2D superlattices. Following that, the promising applications of 2D materials in electronics, optoelectronics, catalysis, energy storage, solar cells, biomedicine, sensors, environments, etc. are described sequentially. Thereafter, we present the theoretic calculations and simulations of 2D materials. Finally, after concluding the current progress, we provide some personal discussions on the existing challenges and future outlooks in this rapidly developing field.

Distributed resource scheduling for large-scale MEC systems: A multi-agent ensemble deep reinforcement learning with imitation acceleration

We consider the optimization of distributed resource scheduling to minimize the sum of task latency and energy consumption for all the Internet of things devices (IoTDs) in a large-scale mobile edge computing (MEC) system. To address this problem, we propose a distributed intelligent resource scheduling (DIRS) framework, which includes centralized training relying on the global information and distributed decision making by each agent deployed in each MEC server. More specifically, we first introduce a novel multi-agent ensemble-assisted distributed deep reinforcement learning (DRL) architecture, which can simplify the overall neural network structure of each agent by partitioning the state space and also improve the performance of a single agent by combining decisions of all the agents. Secondly, we apply action refinement to enhance the exploration ability of the proposed DIRS framework, where the near-optimal state-action pairs are obtained by a novel Lvy flight search. Finally, an imitation acceleration scheme is presented to pre-train all the agents, which can significantly accelerate the learning process of the proposed framework through learning the professional experience from a small amount of demonstration data. Extensive simulations are conducted to demonstrate that the proposed DIRS framework is efficient and outperforms the existing benchmark schemes. Copyright © 2020, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Neural-based text classification methods have attracted increasing attention in recent years. Unlike the standard text classification methods, neural-based text classification methods perform the representation operation and end-to-end learning on the text data. Many useful insights can be derived from neural based text classifiers as demonstrated by an ever-growing body of work focused on text mining. However, in the real-world, text can be both complex and noisy which can pose a problem for effective text classification. An effective way to deal with this issue is to incorporate self-attention and capsule networks into text mining solutions. In this paper, we propose a Bi-dynamic routing Capsule Network with Label-constraint (BCNL) model for text classification, which moves beyond the limitations of previous methods by automatically learning the task-relevant and label-relevant words of text. Specifically, we use a Bi-LSTM and self-attention with position encoder network to learn text embeddings. Meanwhile, we propose a bi-dynamic routing capsule network with label-constraint to adjust the category distribute of text capsules. Through extensive experiments on four datasets, we observe that our method outperforms state-of-the-art baseline methods.

HSCS:a hybrid shared cache scheduling scheme for multiprogrammed workloads

The traditional dynamic random-access memory (DRAM) storage medium can be integrated on chips via modern emerging 3D-stacking technology to architect a DRAM shared cache in multicore systems. Compared with static random-access memory (SRAM), DRAM is larger but slower. In the existing research, a lot of work has been devoted to improving the workload performance using SRAM and stacked DRAM together in shared cache systems, ranging from SRAM structure improvement to optimizing cache tags and data access. However, little attention has been paid to designing a shared cache scheduling scheme for multiprogrammed workloads with different memory footprints in multicore systems. Motivated by this, we propose a hybrid shared cache scheduling scheme that allows a multicore system to utilize SRAM and 3D-stacked DRAM efficiently, thus achieving better workload performance. This scheduling scheme employs (1) a cache monitor, which is used to collect cache statistics; (2) a cache evaluator, which is used to evaluate the cache information during the process of programs being executed; and (3) a cache switcher, which is used to self-adaptively choose SRAM or DRAM shared cache modules. A cache data migration policy is naturally developed to guarantee that the scheduling scheme works correctly. Extensive experiments are conducted to evaluate the workload performance of our proposed scheme. The experimental results showed that our method can improve the multiprogrammed workload performance by up to 25% compared with state-of-the-art methods (including conventional and DRAM cache systems).

Building an efficient intrusion detection system based on feature selection and ensemble classifier

Intrusion detection system (IDS) is one of extensively used techniques in a network topology to safeguard the integrity and availability of sensitive assets in the protected systems. Although many supervised and unsupervised learning approaches from the field of machine learning have been used to increase the efficacy of IDSs, it is still a problem for existing intrusion detection algorithms to achieve good performance. First, lots of redundant and irrelevant data in high-dimensional datasets interfere with the classification process of an IDS. Second, an individual classifier may not perform well in the detection of each type of attacks. Third, many models are built for stale datasets, making them less adaptable for novel attacks. Thus, we propose a new intrusion detection framework in this paper, and this framework is based on the feature selection and ensemble learning techniques. In the first step, a heuristic algorithm called CFS-BA is proposed for dimensionality reduction, which selects the optimal subset based on the correlation between features. Then, we introduce an ensemble approach that combines C4.5, Random Forest (RF), and Forest by Penalizing Attributes (Forest PA) algorithms. Finally, voting technique is used to combine the probability distributions of the base learners for attack recognition. The experimental results, using NSL-KDD, AWID, and CIC-IDS2017 datasets, reveal that the proposed CFS-BA-Ensemble method is able to exhibit better performance than other related and state of the art approaches under several metrics. An online resource scheduling framework is proposed for minimizing the sum of weighted task latency for all the mobile users, by optimizing offloading decision, transmission power, and resource allocation in the mobile edge computing (MEC) system. Towards this end, a deep reinforcement learning (DRL) method is proposed to obtain an online resource scheduling policy. Firstly, a related and regularized stacked auto encoder (2r-SAE) with unsupervised learning is proposed to perform data compression and representation for high dimensional channel quality information (CQI) data, which can reduce the state space for DRL. Secondly, we present an adaptive simulated annealing based approach (ASA) as the action search method of DRL, in which an adaptive h-mutation is used to guide the search direction and an adaptive iteration is proposed to enhance the search efficiency during the DRL process. Thirdly, a preserved and prioritized experience replay (2p-ER) is introduced to assist the DRL to train the policy network and find the optimal offloading policy. Numerical results are provided to demonstrate that the proposed algorithm can achieve near-optimal performance while significantly decreasing the computational time compared with existing benchmarks. It also shows that the proposed framework is suitable for resource scheduling problem in large-scale MEC networks, especially in the dynamic environment. Copyright © 2020, The Authors. The paper deals with two nonlinear elliptic equations with (p, q)-Laplacian and the Dirichlet-Neumann-Dirichlet (DND) boundary conditions, and Dirichlet-Neumann-Neumann (DNN) boundary conditions, respectively. Under mild hypotheses, we prove the unique weak solvability of the elliptic mixed boundary value problems. Then, a comparison and a monotonicity results for the solutions of elliptic mixed boundary value problems are established. We examine a convergence result which shows that the solution of (DND) can be approached by the solution of (DNN). Moreover, two optimal control problems governed by (DND) and (DNN), respectively, are considered, and an existence result for optimal control problems is obtained. This study aims to improve the performance in solder joint image compression and reconstruction. A novel adaptive block compressive sensing with convex optimisation and Gini index (Ad_BCSGB_Gini) methodology for solder joint image compression and reconstruction is proposed. At first, the image is split into square blocks and each block is resized into a row which consists of a new image. Then, the new image is transformed into a sparse signal by an orthogonal basis matrix, and the image reconstruction is handled as a convex optimisation problem. Moreover, a gradient-based method which has fast computational speed is used to reconstruct image. There is a control factor which controls a norm l1 in the optimisation problem. To achieve the best performance, at last, the proposed method adaptively selects the best result by comparing Gini index of the reconstruction results based on different control factor values. Experimental results with different methods indicate that the Ad_BCSGB_Gini method is able to achieve the best performance in quantisation comparison than several classical algorithms, and Ad_BCSGB_Gini has a good robustness. © 2019 Institution of Engineering and technology. Over the recent years, ontologies are widely used in the biomedical domains. However, biomedical ontology heterogeneity problem hamper the cooperation between intelligent applications based on biomedical ontologies. It is crucial to establish correspondences between the heterogeneous biomedical concepts in different ontologies, which is so-called biomedical ontology matching. Approaches based on Multi-Objective Evolutionary Algorithm (MOEA), such as NSGA-II, are emerging as a new methodology to solve the ontology matching problem. In this paper, to further improve the quality of biomedical ontology alignments, a hybrid NSGA-II is proposed, which modifies the knee solutions in the Pareto front by using a local search method. Experiment utilizes two biomedical ontology matching tracks provided by Ontology Alignment Evaluation Initiative (OAEI 2017). The experimental results show that our approach outperforms the participants of OAEI 2017 and NSGA-II based ontology matching technique. © Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2019.

In this paper, we propose an analysis mechanism based structured Analysis Discriminative Dictionary Learning (ADDL) framework. ADDL seamlessly integrates the analysis discriminative dictionary learning, analysis representation and analysis classifier training into a unified model. The applied analysis mechanism can make sure that the learnt dictionaries, representations and linear classifiers over different classes are independent and discriminating as much as possible. The dictionary is obtained by minimizing a reconstruction error and an analytical incoherence promoting term that encourages the sub-dictionaries associated with different classes to be independent. To obtain the representation coefficients, ADDL imposes a sparse l2,1-norm constraint on the coding coefficients instead of using l0 or l1-norm, since the l0 or l1-norm constraint applied in most existing DL criteria makes the training phase time consuming. The codes-extraction projection that bridges data with the sparse codes by extracting special features from the given samples is calculated via minimizing a sparse codes approximation term. Then we compute a linear classifier based on the approximated sparse codes by an analysis mechanism to simultaneously consider the classification and representation powers. Thus, the classification approach of our model is very efficient, because it can avoid the extra time-consuming sparse reconstruction process with trained dictionary for each new test data as most existing DL algorithms. Simulations on real image databases demonstrate that our ADDL model can obtain superior performance over other state-of-the-arts. Copyright © 2019, The Authors. All rights reserved.
