Text semantic similarity is a crucial research area in Natural Language Processing (NLP). However, traditional methods for calculating the similarity of short Chinese texts often fall short in accuracy and other crucial aspects. The Bidirectional Long Short-Term Memory network (BiLSTM) has demonstrated remarkable performance in computing the similarity of short Chinese texts by effectively capturing long-range dependencies and semantic information. Additionally, the multi-head attention mechanism considers the interaction between different text locations and semantic information, enhancing the model’s representative capacity. Building upon this foundation, our paper proposes an enhanced model known as SCTbilstmAttRdrop (SCTAR). This model is constructed based on a multilayer BiLSTM architecture and incorporates an SE-gated convolutional module and a convolutional multi-head attention-aware model. We conducted extensive evaluations using two Chinese short text datasets, Chinese-SNLI and CCKS2018_Task3. The experimental results unequivocally demonstrate that our SCTAR model surpasses other common methods in terms of accuracy, precision, recall, and F1 scores when tasked with computing the similarity of Chinese short texts.

For existing image-guided radiation therapy systems (IGRT), the limited angular range of the cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) scanning improves the compactness of the system and compatibility between CBCT and linear accelerator configurations. However, the limited-angle CBCT reconstruction under incomplete projection data causes severe artifacts in the reconstructed images, further having a negative impact on the registration accuracy in IGRT. In this paper, we propose a planning CT-guided deep diffusion model, termed LARGE-DiffNet, to improve imaging quality and registration accuracy for limited-angle CBCT image reconstruction. In stark contrast to existing approaches leveraging hand-crafted regularization, such as local smoothness and/or sparsity of the image, LARGE-DiffNet learns the distribution-level prior knowledge to describe the features of ideal CBCT images via a planning CT-guided diffusion model. The proposed LARGE-DiffNet is evaluated on the clinical CBCT dataset, and extensive experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms the state-of-the-art methods. The proposed LARGE-DiffNet technique has great potential in IGRT. © 1963-2012 IEEE.

Electronic health records (EHRs) play a crucial role in the development of personalized treatment plans for patients. However, EHRs are often highly incomplete, posing significant challenges for predictive modeling. While existing deep learning models employ various imputation techniques to reconstruct missing values, they often fail to represent missing data in a personalized manner and do not learn from the missingness patterns in EHRs data. This limitation reduces their effectiveness in practical personalized healthcare applications. To address this issue, we propose SPIME, a self-supervised model that generates personalized imputations in EHRs data for patient health status prediction. We introduce a personalized missing mask (PMM) based on the frequency of feature measurements. Additionally, we incorporate a masked imputation task (MIT) loss that minimizes the loss of artificially introduced missing values, thereby enhancing the model’s capability to handle missing data. SPIME adopts self-supervised pretraining to learn representations from personalized missing patterns and reconstructs missing data in the latent space. To further enhance representation learning, two independent attention mechanisms are applied separately across the feature and temporal dimensions. Experimental results on two real-world EHRs datasets show that SPIME outperforms existing state-of-the-art methods in predicting in-hospital mortality and decompensation, demonstrating its effectiveness in reconstructing missing data and predicting patient health status. We present GauKGT5, a sequence-to-sequence model proposed for knowledge graph completion (KGC). Our research extends the KGT5 model, a recent sequence-to-sequence link prediction (LP) model. GauKGT5 takes advantage of textual characteristics inherent in the knowledge graph, exhibiting a small model size. However, KGT5’s proficiency in link prediction necessitates the ensemble with a knowledge graph embedding model, which itself poses challenges due to its substantial size and expense. By integrating the Gated Attention Unit into the KGT5 model and directly applying it to the encoder-decoder structure, we achieve improved contextual dependency capturing within the sequence, resulting in enhanced prediction accuracy, accelerated training speed, and enhanced computational efficiency. At the same time, we introduce parallel computing as a means to enhance the efficiency of model training and inference within the XPU distributed computing environment.

The field weed detection task under the perspective of Plant Protection UAVs (PPU) is characterized by multi-scale targets and rich background semantic information, which belongs to the target detection task in complex scenarios. Blindly boosting the network size and overusing the attention mechanism in such tasks are not effective in improving the model accuracy. The core of the problem lies in the fact that the covariate features of the target are shifted during the transfer of the three layers of image semantic information (visual, object and conceptual layers). This phenomenon is particularly evident at the conceptual level, resulting in models that do not accurately understand the target information. Redundant semantic information and irrational attention mechanisms for complex scenarios are the cause of the problem. In this paper, we propose the Color and Feature Space Classification (CFSC) method, which aims to construct a covariate semantic information matrix that spans the visual, object and conceptual layers. Mitigating the problem of offsetting semantic information of covariate features in complex scenarios. The color and feature space classification method is applied to a one-stage detection model, YOLOv8, and experiments are conducted on three complex scene PPU weed datasets. The experimental results show that the CFSC method can improve the model accuracy, loss computation capability and accelerate the gradient descent.

In a real scenario, the image is often corrupted by complex degradation, and a lot of useful information is lost, which makes super-resolution (SR) reconstruction seriously ill-posed. To effectively solve such a problem, it is crucial to correctly exploit image prior knowledge. Although existing deep learning-based methods can obtain excellent results, they cannot deal with the complex degradation effectively, which would lead to the loss of texture details and the destruction of edge details. In this paper, an efficient multi-regularization method for SR is proposed, which can simultaneously exploit both internal and external image priors within a unified framework. The hybrid Tikhonov-TV prior and deep denoiser prior are introduced to constrain the reconstruction process. That is, the proposed model combines the superiority of the piecewise-smooth prior and deep prior. Moreover, an adaptive weight parameter is employed to make the hybrid component more detail-preserving. Experimental demonstrate that the proposed method achieves better performance in image detail protection than advanced methods.

The objective of Multimodal Knowledge Graph Completion (MKGC) is to forecast absent entities within a knowledge graph by leveraging additional textual and visual modalities. Existing studies commonly utilize a singular relationship embedding to depict all modalities within an entity pair, thus connecting several relationships derived from diverse modalities. However, this coupling may introduce interference from conflicting information between modalities, as the relationships between modalities for a given entity pair can be contradictory. Moreover, existing Ensemble Inference methods fail to dynamically adjust modal weights based on their differences and importance, despite the varying contributions of different modalities. In this paper, we propose the Multimodal Decouple and Relation-based Ensemble inference (MDRE) model. For each modality, we construct corresponding relationship embeddings and build separate triple representations to avoid interferences among modalities. During the training phase, we employ confidence-constrained training with temperature scaling to alleviate conflicting information in textual and visual modalities. For inference, we utilize the Relation-based Ensemble Inference method to adjust modal weights at the relationship level, thus achieving improved prediction results. Experimental results on two datasets demonstrate that MDRE outperforms existing single-modal and multimodal knowledge graph completion methods in terms of performance.

Object detection is an essential task in the field of computer vision. The one-stage object detection model directly completes object detection through a single forward propagation and has fast real-time object detection capabilities, making it widely used—especially the model of the You Only Look Once (YOLO) series. Improving the detection accuracy of the YOLO model has always been a research topic. The gradient architecture cascades feature information extraction and aggregates all features at the end, which can improve the feature fusion ability of the network. Combining the idea of gradient architecture, this paper proposes a YOLO based on gradient architecture: Gradient-YOLO. Specifically, this paper integrates gradient architecture into the backbone, neck, and bottleneck structures in the YOLO network, obtaining gradient backbone, gradient neck, and gradient bottleneck, respectively. By combining gradient architecture, various network parts in Gradient-YOLO can fully aggregate multi-layer features, reduce feature loss, and thus improve detection accuracy. This paper takes the mature YOLOv5 model and the latest YOLOv8 model as the baseline and combines gradient thinking to obtain Gradient-YOLOv5 and GradientYOLOv8. Moreover, conduct experimental testing on the MS COCO dataset. Regarding the mAP@.5 detection indicator, compared to YOLOv5s, Gradient-YOLOv5s increased by 5.07%. Compared to YOLOv8n, Gradient-YOLOv8n has increased by 4.63%. Therefore, the combination of gradient architecture can improve the detection accuracy of YOLO networks.

Image inpainting, which aims to reconstruct reasonably clear and realistic images from known pixel information, is one of the core problems in computer vision. However, due to the complexity and variability of the underwater environment, the inability to extract valid pixel points and insufficient correlation between feature information in existing image inpainting techniques lead to blurring in the generated images. Therefore, a novel gated attention feature fusion image inpainting network based on generative adversarial networks (GAF-GAN) is proposed. The accuracy of feature similarity matching depends heavily on the validity of the information contained in the features. On the one hand, gating values are dynamically generated by gated convolution to reduce the interference of invalid information. On the other hand, semantic information at distant locations in an image is accurately acquired by the attention mechanism. For these reasons, we designed an improved gated attention mechanism. Gated attention mechanism make the network focus on effective information such as high-frequency texture and color fidelity of restored images. In addition, the dense feature fusion module is added to expand the overall receptive field of the network to fully learn the image features. Experimental results show that the proposed method can effectively repair defective images with complex texture structures and improve the reality and integrity of image details and structures.

On the Effectiveness of Distillation in Mitigating Backdoors in Pre-trained Encoder

With the development of deep learning, self-supervised learning (SSL) has become particularly popular. SSL pre-trains an encoder (e.g., an image encoder) to learn generic features from a large amount of unlabeled data, releases it on a third-party platform, and allows any downstream task (e.g., an image classification task) to further fine-tune the encoder with task-specific data to derive the model for the task. However, despite the tremendous performance improvements it brings, SSL faces serious security risks. An adversary can poison pre-training datasets used to pre-train an encoder or publish a poisoned encoder directly to third-party platforms, which will also poison the model for any downstream task that uses these encoders. In this paper, we study a defense against poisoned encoders in SSL called distillation, which is a defense used in supervised learning originally. Distillation aims to distill knowledge from a given model (a.k.a the teacher net) and transfer it to another (a.k.a the student net). Now, we use it to distill benign knowledge from poisoned pre-trained encoders and transfer it to a new encoder, resulting in a clean pre-trained encoder. In particular, we conduct an empirical study on the effectiveness and performance of distillation against poisoned encoders. Using two state-of-the-art backdoor attacks against pre-trained image encoders and four commonly used image classification datasets, our experimental results show that distillation can reduce attack success rate from 80.87% to 27.51% while suffering a 6.35% loss in accuracy. Moreover, we investigate the impact of three core components of distillation on performance: Teacher net, student net, and distillation loss. By comparing 4 different teacher nets, 3 student nets, and 6 distillation losses, we find that fine-tuned teacher nets, warm-up-training-based student nets, and attention-based distillation loss perform best, respectively.
