Intraoperative Cone-Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) facilitates intraoperative navigation for Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery (MISS). However, high-attenuation metal implants used in MISS often cause metal artifacts in the reconstructed CBCT images. Current algorithms do not consider the cross-view information in the projection-domain for metal artifact reduction (MAR). Inaccurate projection-domain inpainting results in CBCT MAR lead to tissue blurring and secondary artifacts, significantly compromising the accuracy of CBCT-guided MISS and increasing surgical risks. To address the above challenge, in this paper, we propose a novel unsupervised cross-view prior inpainting network for CBCT Metal Artifact Reduction named NEAT-Net. Firstly, a cross-view prior multi-scale inpainting module is constructed to learn the inter-view complementary information. Secondly, a hybrid feature attention module is proposed to adaptively fuse cross-view features. In addition, an unsupervised training approach is proposed to directly learn from metal-affected data. Extensive experiments are conducted to verify the effectiveness of our algorithm on a real clinical dataset. © 2024 IEEE.

Vsgnet: Visual Saliency Guided Network for Skin Lesion Segmentation

The accuracy of skin lesion segmentation is of great significance for the subsequent clinical diagnosis. In order to improve the segmentation accuracy, some pioneering works tried to embed multiple complex modules, or used the huge Transformer framework, but due to the limitation of computing resources, these type of large models were not suitable for the actual clinical environment. To address the coexistence challenges of precision and lightweight, we propose a visual saliency guided network (VSGNet) for skin lesion segmentation, which generates saliency images of skin lesions through the efficient attention mechanism of biological vision, and guides the network to quickly locate the target area, so as to solve the localization difficulties in the skin lesion segmentation tasks. VSGNet includes three parts: Color Constancy module, Saliency Detection module and Ultra Lightweight Multi-level Interconnection Network(ULMI-Net). Specially, ULMI-Net uses a U-shaped structure network as the skeleton, including the Adaptive Split Channel Attention (ASCA) module that simulates the parallel mechanism of biological vision dual pathway, and the Channel-Spatial Parallel Attention (CSPA) module inspired by the multi-level interconnection structure of visual cortices. Through these modules, ULMI-Net can balance the efficient extraction and multi-scale fusion of global and local features, and try to achieve the excellent segmentation results at the lowest cost of parameters and computational complexity. To validate the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed VSGNet on three publicly available skin lesion segmentation datasets (ISIC2017, ISIC2018 and PH2 datasets). The experimental results show that compared to other state-of-the-art methods, VSGNet improves the Dice and mIoU metrics by 1.84% and 3.34%, respectively, and with a 196× and 106× reduction in the number of parameters and computational complexity. In this paper, a novel error concealment (EC) method for compressed stereoscopic image pairs is presented, which contains a new binocular EC mode and an improved monocular EC mode. The proposed algorithm selects appropriate EC mode to conceal the error block (EB) in the stereoscopic image according to the local characteristic of the EB. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed scheme has good subjective and objective EC performance in stereoscopic images as compared to monocular mode.

Recently, the state space model Mamba has demonstrated efficient long-sequence modeling capabilities, particularly for addressing long-sequence visual tasks in 3D medical imaging. However, existing generative self-supervised learning methods have not yet fully unleashed Mamba’s potential for handling long-range dependencies because they overlook the inherent causal properties of state space sequences in masked modeling. To address this challenge, we propose a general-purpose pre-training framework called MambaMIM, a masked image modeling method based on a novel TOKen-Interpolation strategy (TOKI) for the selective structure state space sequence, which learns causal relationships of state space within the masked sequence. Further, MambaMIM introduces a bottom-up 3D hybrid masking strategy to maintain a masking consistency across different architectures and can be used on any single or hybrid Mamba architecture to enhance its multi-scale and long-range representation capability. We pre-train MambaMIM on a large-scale dataset of 6.8K CT scans and evaluate its performance across eight public medical segmentation benchmarks. Extensive downstream experiments reveal the feasibility and advancement of using Mamba for medical image pre-training. In particular, when we apply the MambaMIM to a customized architecture that hybridizes MedNeXt and Vision Mamba, we consistently obtain the state-of-the-art segmentation performance. Based on the analysis of color histogram for image retrieval, a new descriptor, bit-plane distribution feature (BPDF), is proposed in this paper. The image is firstly divided into eight bit-planes. Meantime, the Gray code of bit-planes is used to avoid the effect of changes in the intensity values on bit-planes. Then, according to the distribution of each bit-plane, a feature vector is constructed by the first four significant planes which contain most of the structural information of the image. Finally, the Mahalanobis distance is adopted to measure the similarity because of the correlation between the concerned vectors after designing a correlation-weighted matrix. Comparisons are conducted between BPDF and other descriptors. Experimental results show that the proposed method provides more significantly retrieval results than the traditional ones.

Aimed at the deficiency of the resampling algorithm in PF, diversity measures ESS (effective sample size) and PDF (population diversity factor) are evaluated respectively. Combined with the estimation result, diversity measures PDF is used for adaptively tuning the resampling threshold. By integrating the operation of particle mutation after resampling into PF and using the above mechanism of diversity guidance, the AMPF algorithm (Adaptive Mutation PF) is presented so as to assure the diversity of particle sets. With the simulation program using matlab 7.0 to track a single target motion from a fixed visual observation points, the performance of diversity measures and AMPF are evaluated and the validity of the proposed method is verified.

Due to the thrive of networking multimedia, artificial intelligence and embedded system, video surveillance system is evolved from computer-based to embedded-based. This paper presents an intelligent multimedia surveillance system based on embedded video server. Design and implementation issues of this surveillance system are discussed including system architecture, hardware design and software framework. Moreover, practical applications show that our framework can suitable for commercial applications.

Cerebral perfusion computed tomography(PCT)is an important imaging modality for evaluating cerebrovascular diseases and stroke *** widespread public concern about the potential cancer risks and health hazards associated with cumulative radiation exposure in PCT imaging,considerable research has been conducted to reduce the radiation dose in X-ray-based brain perfusion *** the dose of X-rays causes severe noise and artifacts in PCT *** solve this problem,we propose a deep learning method called *** exceptional characteristics of non-subsampled contourlet transform(NSCT)and the Sobel filter are introduced into *** decomposes the convolved features into high-and low-frequency *** decomposed high-frequency component retains image edges,contrast imaging traces,and noise,whereas the low-frequency component retains the main image *** Sobel filter extracts the contours of the original image and the imaging traces caused by the contrast agent *** extracted information is added to NCS-Unet to improve its performance in noise reduction and artifact *** and quantitative analyses demonstrated that the proposed NCS-Unet can improve the quality of low-dose cone-beam CT perfusion reconstruction images and the accuracy of perfusion parameter calculations.

Computed Tomography (CT) is an imaging technique widely used in clinical diagnosis. However, high-attenuation metallic implants result in the obstruction of low-energy Xrays and further lead to metal artifacts in the reconstructed CT images. Deep supervised model-based metal artifact reduction(MAR) approaches are limited in clinical applications due to the difficulty in obtaining paired artifact-affected and artifactfree data. Furthermore, these model-based methods lack the consideration of data consistency in the sinogram-domain to perform exact metal trace inpainting. To address these challenges, we propose a Data-consistent unsupErVised diffusiOn model for meTal artifact rEDuction, called DEVOTED-Net. First, DEVOTED-Net leverages prior knowledge to guide the conditional diffusion model for fine-grained metal trace inpainting. Second, an unsupervised MAR framework is designed in the reverse process for the unknown metal traces restoration in the sinogram domain. Third, to further enhance the sinogram-domain data consistency, physics-based consistency constraint loss including conjugateray consistency loss and accumulation-ray consistency loss is designed. Extensive experiments are carried out to verify the performance of our algorithm on the publicly available dataset and clinical experimental dataset. This efficient, accurate, and reliable MAR approach holds great potential in clinics. © 2023 IEEE.
