Aiming at the health index (HI) is difficult to characterize when the rolling bearing state changes and the transformer network attention mechanism only focuses on the global feature information, resulting in the low prediction performance. This paper proposes a bearing RUL prediction method based on the global-local attention mechanism transformer with a multi-source feature-weighted kernel principal component. Squeeze and excitation networks (SENet) are applied to the adaptive assign weights to its multi-channel features. It combined with the distances of the multi-source features, which were calculated by the Mahalanobis distance (MD), to obtain the multi-source HI through the kernel principal component analysis algorithm (KPCA). It can balance multi-source features and retain important feature information. The global-local attention mechanism transformer method fuse and learn global and local spatiotemporal sequence features can improve bearing RUL prediction model performance. The proposed method was verified by experiments of the XJTU-SY dataset and the PHM2012 dataset and compared with the publicized methods. Results demonstrate the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed approach in terms of prediction accuracy. © 2024 IEEE.

As the integration of PV inverters and battery energy storage systems (BESSs) gradually increases in the distribution network, the rapid fluctuation and random nature of these distributed generators (DGs) put forwards an urgent demand for real-time Volt-VAR optimization (VVO). To address this issue, this paper proposes a VVO strategy learning method via machine learning framework. First, the VVO problem with PV and BESS is formulated as a mixed integer programming (MIP). Second, a strategy learning framework is proposed, which maps from uncertain parameters to the optimal value of integer variables and tight constraints. The solution finding of the MIP can be accelerated by applying the strategy. Then, a decision tree model is created to tackle the classification task. Finally, case studies are conducted on the modified IEEE 33-bus system, which demonstrates the feasibility and reliability of the proposed method. The result shows that the proposed method can reach near-optimal performance compared with commercial solvers.

A wideband tilted circularly polarized (CP) beam dual-resonant patch antenna with low-profile is proposed. Initial size of the antenna is empirically calculated according to the eigenmode functions of the microstrip patch radiator. Pin-loaded technique is employed to tune the antenna and to lead a tilted CP characteristic. As validations, a prototype antenna on air substrate with thickness of 4mm (i.e., 0.034-wavelength) is fabricated, measured and verified at 2.6GHz-band. The proposed antenna with centered angles of 200° exhibits an impedance bandwidth up to 24.1%. It exhibits a tilted CP radiation within the elevation range of =10°40°, with 3 dB axial ratio (AR) bandwidth up to 8.2%, maximum gain at =15° up to 5.6dBic and average radiation efficiency of 91%. © 2021 IEEE.

Haptic data compression has gradually become a key issue for emerging immersive communications. However, it is challenging to achieve a trade-off between high perceptual quality and compression ratio in haptic data compression scheme. Inspired by the perspective of biological cognitive mechanism, we propose a cross-modal haptic compression scheme to improve the perception quality on VR devices in this paper. Since multimodal fusion is routinely employed to improve the ability of system in cognition, we assume that haptic codec is guided by visual semantics to strengthen data relevance in the coding process. We first design a multi-dimensional tactile feature fusion network (MTFFN), which extracts the multi-dimensional features in the material surface and maps them to infer a range of haptic coding parameters. Secondly, we provide second-order difference and linear interpolation to obtain an optimal criterion for the determination of codec parameters, which are inferred by the material surface characteristics. Finally, the simulation results reveal that our compression scheme can efficiently make a customized codec procedure for different materials, obtaining more than 17% improvement in terms of compression ratio with high immersive perceptual quality at the same time.

High percentage of renewable energy to the grid is the future trend of smart grid. Demand response can effectively smooth out real-time fluctuations in renewable energy and has become an important tool for maintaining power system balance. Customer Directrix Load is a relatively new demand response mechanism, which can effectively consume renewable energy. However, as the installed capacity of renewable energy continues to increase, the dispatch center is under greater computational pressure. Therefore, this paper uses LSTM neural network to predict Customer Directrix Load profile. Case studies verify the effectiveness of the proposed model and algorithm.

As revealed within the paper, a circular patch antenna with circumference of 2.0-wavelength can exhibit backfire enhancement performance. At first, a group of approximate formulas on the basis of multi-resonant theory are given to identify the flared angle, radii and the usable resonant modes. Then, the method of pin-loading is used at the zero of the magnetic current to perturb the fundamental resonant mode to realize the characteristic of dual-resonant wideband. At last, a prototype antenna on a 3-mm-thick (0.06-wavelength) air substrate is manufactured, measured and verified. It is confirmed that the resonant modes TM1/2, 1 and TM3/2, 1 can be simultaneously excited, perturbed and applyed for radiation. As validated, the proposed antenna can exhibit backfire radiation gain of -0.5 dBi over a wide bandwidth of 26.2%. © 2021 IEEE.

Circular sector patch antenna with circumferential short-circuited, wide beamwidth characteristic and low profile is presented and studied. Two radial-resonant magnetic dipoles with asymmetric boundary have been placed and the radiation principle have been analyzed. As will be seen, the resultant antenna would exhibit a wide E-plane beamwidth of 90 and maintain a greatly low profile with 0.036-guide wavelength. © 2021 IEEE.

Human-machine interactions (HMIs), e.g., touchscreens, are essential for users to interact with mobile devices. They are also beneficial in resisting emerging active attacks, which aim at maliciously controlling mobile devices, e.g., smartphones and tablets. With touchscreen-like HMIs, users can notice and interrupt malicious actions conducted by the attackers timely and perform necessary countermeasures, e.g., tapping the ‘Quit’ button on the touchscreen. However, the effect of HMI-oriented active attacks has not been investigated yet. In this paper, we present a practical attack towards touch-based devices, namely Expelliarmus. It reveals a new attack surface of active attacks for hijacking users’ operations and thus taking full control over victim devices. Expelliarmus neutralizes users’ touch commands by producing a reverse current via electromagnetic interference (EMI). Since the reverse current offsets the current change caused by a touch, the touchscreen detects no current change and thus ignores users’ commands. Besides this basic denial-of-service attack, we also realize a target cancellation attack, which can neutralize target commands, e.g., ‘Quit’ without interference in irrelevant operations. Thus, the active attack can be completely performed without interruption from users, even if they are alerted by the abnormal events. Extensive evaluations demonstrate the effectiveness of Expelliarmus on 29 off-the-shelf devices.
