In heterogeneous domain adaptation (HDA), since the feature spaces of the source and target domains are different, knowledge transfer from the source to the target domain is really challenging. How to align the different feature spaces and then adaptively transfer the related knowledge is critical for HDA. In this paper, we develop an adaptive teacher-and-student model for heterogeneous domain adaptation (AtsHDA). In AtsHDA, the source domain as a teacher and the target domain as a student are aligned or co-adapted to each other first, so that their correlation can be maximized. Then the target domain adaptively learns from the source domain. Specifically, there is a balance between the learning by the target domain itself and the instruction from the source domain. That is, when the guidance from the source domain is helpful for learning, the learning of target classifier emphasizes the instruction of source knowledge, and considers its own knowledge more, otherwise. Further, an ensemble method is designed to decide such a balance. Finally, empirical results show that AtsHDA can achieve competitive results compared with the state-of-arts.

The problem of multiple testing arises in many contexts, including testing for pairwise interaction among a large number of neurons. Recently a method was developed to control false positives when covariate information, such as distances between pairs of neurons, is available. This method, however, relies on computationally-intensive Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC). Here we develop an alternative, based on Sequential Monte Carlo, which only requires one pass of the data. This scheme considers data items sequentially, with relevant probabilities being updated at each step. Simulation experiments demonstrate that the proposed algorithm delivers results as accurately as the previous MCMC method. We illustrate the method by using it to analyze neural recordings from extrastriate cortex in a macaque monkey. © 2018 IEEE.

Resource allocation for secure communications in cooperative cognitive wireless powered communication networks

We consider a cognitive wireless powered communication network (CWPCN) sharing the spectrum with a primary network who faces security threats from eavesdroppers (EAVs). We propose a new cooperative protocol for the wireless powered secondary users (SU) to cooperate with the primary user (PU). In the protocol, the SUs first harvest energy from the power signals transmitted by the cognitive hybrid access point during the wireless power transfer (WPT) phase, and then use the harvested energy to interfere with the EAVs and gain transmission opportunities at the same time during the wireless information transfer (WIT) phase. Taking the maximization of the SU ergodic rate as the design objective, resource allocation algorithms based on the dual optimization method and the block coordinate descent method are proposed for the cases of perfect channel state information (CSI) and collusive/noncollusive EAVs under the PU secrecy constraint. More PU favorable greedy algorithms aimed at minimizing the PU secrecy outage probability are also proposed. We furthermore consider the unknown EAVs' CSI case and propose an efficient algorithm to improve the PU security performance. Extensive simulations show that our proposed protocol and corresponding resource allocation algorithms can not only let the SU gain transmission opportunities but also improve the PU security performance even with unknown EAVs' CSI. Over the recent years, ontologies are widely used in the biomedical domains. However, biomedical ontology heterogeneity problem hamper the cooperation between intelligent applications based on biomedical ontologies. It is crucial to establish correspondences between the heterogeneous biomedical concepts in different ontologies, which is so-called biomedical ontology matching. Approaches based on Multi-Objective Evolutionary Algorithm (MOEA), such as NSGA-II, are emerging as a new methodology to solve the ontology matching problem. In this paper, to further improve the quality of biomedical ontology alignments, a hybrid NSGA-II is proposed, which modifies the knee solutions in the Pareto front by using a local search method. Experiment utilizes two biomedical ontology matching tracks provided by Ontology Alignment Evaluation Initiative (OAEI 2017). The experimental results show that our approach outperforms the participants of OAEI 2017 and NSGA-II based ontology matching technique. © Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2019.

With the development of positioning technology, sensor-based positioning has become the most commonly used positioning method because it is more low-cost and efficient with the popularity of smart phones. In this paper, we construct a pedestrian real-time offline positioning and moving trajectory tracking system (HERMES) which only relies on the sensors inside smart phones. In HERMES, based on Pedestrian Dead Reckoning (PDR) model, a stable and accurate pedestrian gait recognition is achieved through the rare double sliding window, the pedestrian step length is estimated in real time by a training pedestrian step length model, and the pedestrian real-time course angle is available through orientation sensor inside smart phones. Thus, if given a pedestrian's initial position, the system can implement the real-time offline pedestrian positioning and moving trajectory tracking. Experiments show the pedestrian gait recognition algorithm implemented in this paper has a high accuracy and the positioning effect is satisfactory. The moving trajectory tracked by the HERMES has a small deviation from the experimenter's actual trajectory.

Sparse subspace learning has been demonstrated to be effective in data mining and machine learning. In this paper, we cast the unsupervised feature selection scenario as a matrix factorization problem from the viewpoint of sparse subspace learning. By minimizing the reconstruction residual, the learned feature weight matrix with the l 2,1 -norm and the non-negative constraints not only removes the irrelevant features, but also captures the underlying low dimensional structure of the data points. Meanwhile in order to enhance the model's robustness, l 1 -norm error function is used to resistant to outliers and sparse noise. An efficient iterative algorithm is introduced to optimize this non-convex and non-smooth objective function and the proof of its convergence is given. Although, there is a subtraction item in our multiplicative update rule, we validate its non-negativity. The superiority of our model is demonstrated by comparative experiments on various original datasets with and without malicious pollution.

Reasonable route planning for taxi can not only improve quality of customer experience, but also maximize the benefit of taxi drivers. Most current taxi planning schemes are designed to achieve the shortest route or the shortest time, not to achieve the best profit. In this paper, we propose a route planning scheme with best profit for taxi (RPSBPT). First, we define the optimal profit point and the profit per unit time function. Second, we design the workflow of data cleaning, sampling and partitioning for preprocessing the dataset of taxi trajectory. Then, we integrate the DBSCAN algorithm and the K-means algorithm to obtain the optimal profit points. Finally, the simulate anneal Algorithm (SA), the genetic algorithm (GA), and the ant colony optimization algorithm (ACO) are adopted respectively to plan route for taxi. We constructed the taxi route planning prototype system and applied the proposed route planning scheme to the system. Based on the system and the collected taxi trajectory data at the Jinjiang district of the Chengdu city, we performed a series of experiments to compare the performance of three heuristic algorithms, including optimal route length, algorithm stability, total profit and profitability per unit time. Experimental results show that ACO has the best performance.

Large-scale complex networks show complex nonlinear relationships among objects, such as the social relationships in the real world, the citation relationship among papers and the interactions among proteins in biology. The analysis of complex network systems make it possible to reveal network structures, information disseminating laws, and communication patterns. Network representation learning (NRL) algorithms focus on mapping the original network structure information to a low-dimensional vector space through a series of operations under the premise of maximally retaining the network structure. In order to analyze current representative NRL algorithms effectively to provide valuable references for other researchers, we built an experimental platform to perform and test the NRL algorithms based on matrix factorization, the NRL algorithms based on shallow neural network and the NRL algorithms based on deep neural network, with datasets on Collaboration Network, Social Network and Citation Network. We implemented a series of comprehensive experiments, based on metrics include precision@k, micro-F1 and macro-F1. Our experiments include network reconstruction, vertex classification, and link prediction, and show readers principles, performances and applications of typical NRL algorithms.

Crowdsensing leverages the rapid growth of sensor-embedded smartphones and human mobility for pervasive information collection. To incentivize smartphone users to participate in crowdsensing, many auction-based incentive mechanisms have been proposed for both offline and online scenarios. It has been demonstrated that the Sybil attack may undermine these mechanisms. In a Sybil attack, a user illegitimately pretends multiple identities to gain benefits. Sybil-proof incentive mechanisms have been proposed for the offline scenario. However, the problem of designing Sybil-proof online incentive mechanisms for crowdsensing is still open. Compared to the offline scenario, the online scenario provides users one more dimension of flexibility, i.e., active time, to conduct Sybil attacks, which makes this problem more challenging. In this paper, we design Sybil-proof online incentive mechanisms to deter the Sybil attack for crowdsensing. Depending on users' flexibility on performing their tasks, we investigate both single-minded and multi-minded cases and propose SOS and SOM, respectively. SOS achieves computational efficiency, individual rationality, truthfulness, and Sybil-proofness. SOM achieves individual rationality, truthfulness, and Sybil-proofness. Through extensive simulations, we evaluate the performance of SOS and SOM.

This Innovative Practice Work in Progress Paper presents a multi-dimension training scheme to improve the innovation capacity of postgraduate and undergraduate students collaboratively. The current training of postgraduate and undergraduate education schemes cannot form a mutually beneficial relation, not suitable for the training of innovation capacity on postgraduate and undergraduate students collaboratively. There are various problems that need to be addressed. The main strategy of the proposed scheme is utilizing real research programs to establish an integrated team mixed with both postgraduate and undergraduate students, focusing on stimulating their innovation capacity in scientific research. In the scheme, we designed a multi-level joint training mechanism based on the mixed pedagogy, the collaborative resource pool platform, the multi-role and team-based innovation talent incubation mechanism, and the preparatory postgraduate student selection and training goal achievement evaluation mechanism. We applied the scheme to the training process of postgraduate students from the majors of Software Engineering, Computer Software and Theory, Computer Application, Computer Technology and Electronic Information Engineering, and undergraduate students from the majors of Computer Science and Technology, Information security and Communication Engineering in Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications. The training results approve the feasibility and effectiveness of the scheme.
