False claims that have been previously fact-checked can still spread on social media. To mitigate their continual spread, detecting previously fact-checked claims is indispensable. Given a claim, existing works retrieve fact-checking articles (FC-articles) for detection and focus on reranking candidate articles in the typical two-stage retrieval framework. However, their performance may be limited as they ignore the following characteristics of FC-articles: (1) claims are often quoted to describe the checked events, providing lexical information besides semantics;and (2) sentence templates to introduce or debunk claims are common across articles, providing pattern information. In this paper, we propose a novel reranker, MTM (Memoryenhanced Transformers for Matching), to rank FC-articles using key sentences selected using event (lexical and semantic) and pattern information. For event information, we propose to finetune the Transformer with regression of ROUGE. For pattern information, we generate pattern vectors as a memory bank to match with the parts containing patterns. By fusing event and pattern information, we select key sentences to represent an article and then predict if the article fact-checks the given claim using the claim, key sentences, and patterns. Experiments on two real-world datasets show that MTM outperforms existing methods. Human evaluation proves that MTM can capture key sentences for explanations. At the early stage of software lifecycle,the complexity measurement of UML class diagrams plays an important role in software development,testing and maintenance,and provides guidance for developing high quality *** order to study which one is better,simple or complex metrics,this paper analyzes and compares four typical metrics of UML class diagrams from experimental software engineering view ***,analyzability and maintainability were classified and predicted for 27 class diagrams related to a banking system by means of algorithm C5.0 within the famous toolkit *** suggest that the performance of simple metrics is not inferior to that of complex metrics,in some cases even better than that of complex metrics.

The paper studies the management problem of data provenance. Firstly, two data models, which enhance the traditional relational model and tree model, are proposed to reveal the basic nature of data provenance. To answer the new challenges to data management posed by data provenance, DBPro, a new database with the ability of managing both data and provenance, is introduced. The storage of data provenance is a core problem in designing DBPro, which is coped with two storage schemes. The comparison between these two storage schemes is also conducted. © 2009 Binary Information Press.

Till now, a large variety of researchers have carried out lots of efforts on object-oriented and UML model metrics from different views. They put forward numerous of metrics and carried out some series of theoretical and experimental verifications on understandability, analyzability, maintainability, fault-proneness, change-proneness and reuse. However, there is no formal semantic specification for UML model metrics, which may lead to potential semantic inconsistency and ambiguity. To solve this problem, this paper provided formalization for UML model metrics at the level of UML Meta models. This formalization can not only help people to understand the meaning of UML model metrics, but also can be used in the application domain of UML model metrics in a more rigorous way.

Pseudo-relevance feedback has been perceived as an effective solution for automatic query ***,a recent study has shown that traditional pseudo-relevance feedback may bring into topic drift and hence be harmful to the retrieval *** this paper,using the idea of local analysis,an effective XML query expansion method,is presented,which utilizes the local word co-occurrence information in good pseudo-relevance document collection and the structural semantics of XML to select most appropriate expansion *** results on INEX 2005 IEEE-CS collection show that the proposed expansion method offers better retrieval performance,compared with original query.

Investigating information needs of elderly people could find out information required to address needs of the aged in a community to present an information service framework to meet their needs. Using data collected from 600 elderly people through field investigation with a questionnaire in a rural community in central China, the results show that the preferred information format of the vast majority of elderly people is audio and/or visual information product, especially audio product. Most of interviewees stated that they were in need of healthy and medical audio information products. The survey maybe lead to improved and expanded information services for respondents who are short of such services, including Public broadcasting services, extending the audiovisual collection, loaning audiovisuals, religious faith audiovisuals and others providing needed information to them. This paper assembles together views on what the elderly people currently need to be helped by both practitioners and researchers in the elderly people services domain.

Dynamic programming based top-k aggregate queries in uncertain database

A Top-k aggregate query ranks groups of tuples by their aggregate values, sum or average for example, and returns k groups with the highest aggregate values. We propose a dynamic programming based method to process uncertain kRanks aggregate queries in uncertain database, where the number of retrieved tuples and group states generated on these tuples are minimized. Our method has two levels, group state generation and U-x-kRanks query processing. In the former level, group states, which satisfy the properties of x-tuple [13], are generated one after the other according to their aggregate values, while in the latter level, dynamic programming based uncertain x-tuple kRanks query processing [15] are employed to return the answers. Comprehensive experiments on different data sets demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed solutions. 1548-7741/ Copyright © 2009 Binary Information Press.

An emerging topic in multimedia retrieval is to detect a complex event in video using only a handful of video examples. Different from existing work which learns a ranker from positive video examples and hundreds of negative examples, we aim to query web video for events using zero or only a few visual examples. To that end, we propose in this paper a tag-based video retrieval system which propagates tags from a tagged video source to an unlabeled video collection without the need of any training examples. Our algorithm is based on weighted frequency neighbor voting using concept vector similarity. Once tags are propagated to unlabeled video we can rely on off-the-shelf language models to rank these videos by the tag similarity. We study the behavior of our tag-based video event retrieval system by performing three experiments on web videos from the TRECVID multimedia event detection corpus, with zero, one and multiple query examples that beats a recent alternative. Reliable telecommunication applications in future need the supports from replication real-time main memory databases. In order to improve recovery performance and provide predictable recovery, this paper proposes a new recovery method using request logs for the databases. Firstly, the format and correctness of request logs are discussed. Then, a recovery model based on request logs is given. Thirdly, the recovery algorithms for local recovery and resynchronization are provided in details. An effective way to optimize XML queries is to minimize XML queries. In this paper, we improve redundance elimination in XPath queries greatly by incorporating two novel kinds of constraints: parent constraint and sibling constraint, and by extending the tractable fragment to include descendant-or-self axis. The two novel kinds of constraints, together with child constraint and descendant constraint, form a family of constraints, which complicate the problem but offer possibilities for further minimization. Two techniques, tree augmentation and simulation augmentation, are employed to cope with constraints. We elaborate on the minimizing algorithms and running efficiencies both in the absence and in the presence of various kinds of constraints.
