Which One Is Better, Simple or Complex Metrics?

At the early stage of software lifecycle, the complexity measurement of UML class diagrams plays an important role in software development, testing and maintenance, and provides guidance for developing high quality software. In order to study which one is better, simple or complex metrics, this paper analyzes and compares four typical metrics of UML class diagrams from experimental software engineering view points. Understandability, analyzability and maintainability were classified and predicted for 27 class diagrams related to a banking system by means of algorithm C5.0 within the famous toolkit Weka. Results suggest that the performance of simple metrics is not inferior to that of complex metrics, in some cases even better than that of complex metrics.

A survey about the information needs of elderly people could find out the information required to address the needs of the aged in a community. Analyzing data collected from 600 elderly people through field investigation with a questionnaire in a rural community in central China, the results show that the preferred information format of the majority of aged people is audio and/or visual information product, especially audio product. Most of the aged people stated that they were in need of healthy and medical non-educational audio information products. The survey maybe lead to improved and expanded information services for respondents who are short of such services, including Public broadcasting services, extending the audiovisual collection, loaning audiovisuals, religious faith audiovisuals and others providing needed information to them. In summary, this paper assembles views on what the elderly people currently need to be helped by both practitioners and researchers in the elderly people services domain.

In this paper, an algorithm, named CCHN, is proposed to solve the partitional clustering problem. An outer chaotic mechanism with annealing strategy is introduced into the competitive Hopfield neural network to construct CCHN for expecting better opportunities of converging to the optimal solution. In addition to retain the competitive characteristics of the conventional competitive Hopfield neural network, CCHN displays a rich range of complex and flexible chaotic dynamics. The chaotic dynamics and the annealing strategy guarantee the powerful searching ability and the effective convergence of CCHN. Results simulated on clustering benchmark problems show that CCHN algorithm is more likely to find an optimal or near-optimal solution with a higher successful ratio than previous algorithms.

Possibility linear programming with trapezoidal fuzzy numbers

Fuzzy linear programming with trapezoidal fuzzy numbers (TrFNs) is considered and a new method is developed to solve it. In this method, TrFNs are used to capture imprecise or uncertain information for the imprecise objective coefficients and/or the imprecise technological coefficients and/or available resources. The auxiliary multi-objective programming is constructed to solve the corresponding possibility linear programming with TrFNs. The auxiliary multi-objective programming involves four objectives: minimizing the left spread, maximizing the right spread, maximizing the left endpoint of the mode and maximizing the middle point of the mode. Three approaches are proposed to solve the constructed auxiliary multi-objective programming, including optimistic approach, pessimistic approach and linear sum approach based on membership function. An investment example and a transportation problem are presented to demonstrate the implementation process of this method. The comparison analysis shows that the fuzzy linear programming with TrFNs developed in this paper generalizes the possibility linear programming with triangular fuzzy numbers. (C) 2013 Elsevier Inc. Possibility Method for Triangular Intuitionistic Fuzzy Multi- attribute Group Decision Making with Incomplete Weight Information

Triangular intuitionistic fuzzy numbers (TIFNs) are a special kind of intuitionistic fuzzy sets (IFSs) on a real number set. TIFNs are useful to deal with ill-known quantities in decision data and decision making problems themselves. The purpose of this paper is on developing a new ranking method of TIFNs and application to multiattribute group decision making (MAGDM) problems in which the attribute values are expressed with TIFNs and the information on attribute weights is incomplete. The weighted average operator of TIFNs is defined, the concepts of the possibility mean, variance of TIFNs as well as standard deviation are introduced. Hereby two new ranking indices considering the risk attitude of decision maker are developed to rank TIFNs. In the proposed group decision method, the collective overall attribute values of alternatives are obtained by using the weighted average operator of TIFNs We construct the multi-objective programming of maximizing the ranking indices of membership and non-membership functions on alternative's collective overall attribute values, which is transformed into a single linear programming model by using the membership function based weighted sum approach. Thus, the ranking indices of membership and non-membership functions for the alternatives are derived, which are used to rank the alternatives. A personnel selection example is analyzed to demonstrate the applicability, universality and flexibility of the proposed models and method.

This paper analyzes formation conditions of regional economic development and trans-boundary environmental pollution governance cooperation mechanism by building a cooperative game model and numerical calculation. Net utility of local governments is the difference between economic utility and trans-boundary pollution governance cost, and coalition help local government expand the increment of economic utility and conserve loss of environment utility. This paper use Shapley value method to allocate net utility rising from cooperation between local governments. When the utility of local governments participating in cooperation is greater compared to not participating in cooperation, local governments cooperate for regional economic development and environmental governance.

This paper calculates the carbon emissions from energy consumption of 30 provinces in China through 2000-2010, and research correlation of factors such as regional economic gap and regional characteristics of carbon emissions in the process of regional economic coordinated development. The LMDI decomposition model is used to decompose the growth rate of China's carbon emissions into 4 types of driving factors, i.e. GDP, industrial pollutants emission intensity, industrial structure and imbalance of regional economic development, to analyze influence of scale effect, technical effect, industrial structure effect and regional spatial structure effect on carbon emissions in the process of China's regional economic development. The results show that: The scale effect is determinants of carbon emissions increasing. The technical effect is the most important force to inhibit the increment of carbon emissions. Industrial structure effect and regional spatial structure effect on carbon emissions are not yet stable, but have a certain pull impact on increasing carbon emissions. © (2014) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

With high expansibility and efficient power usage, tiered wireless sensor networks are widely deployed in many fields as an important part of Internet of Things (IoTs). It is challenging to process range query while protecting sensitive data from adversaries. Moreover, most existing work focuses on privacy-preserving range query neglecting collusion attacks and probability attacks, which are more threatening to network security. In this paper, we first propose a secure range query protocol called secRQ, which not only protects data privacy, but also resists collusion attacks and probability attacks in tiered wireless sensor networks. Generalized inverse matrices and distance-based range query mechanism are used to guarantee security as well as high efficiency and accuracy. Besides, we propose the mutual verification scheme to verify the integrity of query results. Finally, both theoretical analysis and experimental results confirm the security, efficiency and accuracy of secRQ.

Due to the rapid growth of social net services (SNSs), research into SNSs continuance usage has recently emerged as an important issue in information systems adaption. This study develops an integrated model based on the expectation-confirmation model (ECM), the technology acceptance model (TAM), and the theory of planned behavior (TPB), and apply them into the context of older adults' continuance intention toward SNSs. The hypothesized model is validated empirically using a sample collected from 250 older adults who had prior experience with SNSs and was tested against the proposed research model using structure equation modeling. Analysis results demonstrate that satisfaction has the most significant effect on older adults' continuance intention, followed by perceived usefulness, attitude, subject norm and perceived behavioral control. The results of these findings for SNSs practitioners are discussed at the end of this work. © 2014 IEEE.

It is fundamental to compute the most "similar" k nodes w.r.t. a given query node in networks;it serves as primitive operator for tasks such as social recommendation, link prediction, and web searching. Existing approaches to this problem do not consider types of relationships (edges) between two nodes. However, in real networks there exist different kinds of relationships. These kinds of network are called multi-relational networks, in which, different relationships can be modeled by different graphs. From different perspectives, the relationships of the objects are reflected by these different graphs. Since the link-based similarity measure is determined by the structure of the corresponding graph, similarity scores among nodes of the same network are different w.r.t. different perspectives. In this paper, we propose a new type of query, perspective-aware top-k similarity query, to provide more insightful results for users. We efficiently obtain all top-k similar nodes to a given node simultaneously from all perspectives of the network. To accelerate the query processing, several optimization strategies are proposed. Our solutions are validated by performing extensive experiments.
