The economic dispatch problem (EDP) is important to the economic operation in microgrids, the objective of which is to obtain the generation plan with the minimal total generation cost. Considering the connection to main grid, flexible loads and line losses in the microgrid, a complete EDP model with corresponding constraints is proposed in this paper. Motivated by the push-sum method and dynamic consensus, a consensus-based distributed optimization algorithm is proposed to solve EDPs in this paper, step sizes of which can be fixed and uncoordinated. It is shown that the proposed distributed algorithm is able to solve EDPs in microgrids when the time-varying directed communication networks satisfy the uniformly jointly strongly connected condition. Several examples are provided to validate the proposed distributed optimization algorithm.

Industrial gas leakage in chemical plants presents a high risk to health and safety, also makes a huge waste of production materials. In this paper, we propose an automatic gas segmentation method for optical gas imaging (OGI) videos, which can not only indicate the existence of leakage in frames but also show the precise locations and shapes of gas plumes. Specifically, we propose a novel video segmentation network that stacks 2D spatial convolutions, 1D temporal convolutions and 3D spatial-temporal convolutions together within an encoder-decoder structure, termed 2.5D-Unet. Stacking mixed convolutions increases the representation ability of network for leakage's appearance and motion. More importantly, stacking mixed convolutions facilitates pre-training of model using still images of smoke, which is especially useful when lacking of labeled videos of leaked gas. Experimental results show, for OGI video-based gas leakage segmentation, our method outperforms existing video segmentation methods.

Accurate channel modeling is critical to support the design and deployment of wireless communication systems. Ray-tracing (RT) based deterministic channel modeling has been considered as a key candidate to generate accurate channels for specified scenarios. However, the efficiency of RT decreases as the complexity of the environment increases. This factor significantly limits the applicability of RT, thus the acceleration technologies are highly demanded. In this paper, two space partitioning methods, including the uniform grid and the k-dimensional (k-D) tree, are implemented to accelerate RT by changing the storage structure of the environment. The efficiencies of both methods are compared in different environments with different configurations. As expected, the efficiency of RT has been improved considerably after being accelerated, and the application scenarios for both acceleration methods are derived. Finally, by comparing with the measurement and simulation, it is found that the accuracy of RT is not influenced after being accelerated.

Study on Flue Gas Desulfurization Process with Selective SO2 Removal by N-formylmorpholine

Absorptive separation for resource utilization by selective SO2 removal from flue gas is a potential method applicable in practice. A flue gas desulfurization process for SO2 utilization by selective absorption in a lab-scale absorption tower at atmospheric pressure using N-formylmorpholine (NFM) as the absorbent is developed to capture and concentrate the SO2 from flue gas, in which the CO2 content is several orders higher than that of SO2. The investigation of the effects of different operating conditions on the SO2 removal efficiency shows that the SO2 removal efficiency can be obviously enhanced by increasing NFM concentration, or decreasing the absorption temperature, the superficial gas velocity, the gas-liquid ratio, or the SO2 concentration in absorption solution. Under the optimum operating conditions (covering a temperature of 40 °C, a superficial gas velocity of <0.0165 m/s, a gas-liquid ratio of 200—250, a SO2 concentration in lean NFM solution of 0—10 mg/L, and a NFM concentration of 3 mol/L), the SO2 removal rate reaches over 99.5% while the absorption of CO2 is negligible. Similarly, the SO2 removal rate is as high as 99.5% obtained in consecutive absorption-desorption cycles. Desorption experiment results indicate that the absorption of sulfur dioxide is completely reversible and the release of SO2 from NFM is very easy and rapid at 104 °C. The absorption simulation result for desulfurization of flue gas vented from the industrial catalytic cracking regenerator shows that 98.0% of SO2 can be absorbed in the absorber and most of them are released in the desorber. The experimental and simulated results show that the desulfurization ability and regenerability of NFM solution is encouraging for the development of FGD process to capture the SO2 from flue gas.

In this paper we present a novel concept of a tethered-drones system. The system includes an arbitrary number of drones connected serially to an active ground station. The considered drones are of quadrotor type. Utilizing a unique pulley-gimbal mechanism, each drone can freely move along the tether and its position is measured with respect to the ground station without the use of standard onboard inertial sensors. The proposed system can be thought of as a robotic arm where each tether section acts as a variable-length link and each drone is a joint actuator. We model the coupled behavior of the ground station and the string, taking into account an arbitrary number of drones. Then, a controller that combines tools from geometric-control and linear-control is suggested. Finally, the concept is demonstrated using numerical simulations, which also illustrate its potential effectiveness.

This paper addresses a quantized consensus problem of general linear multi-agent systems in a symmetric network under an event-triggered scheme. Firstly, a distributed event-triggered strategy is developed with a dynamic threshold to reduce the unnecessary control update. Then, based on absolute quantized state measurements, a distributed controller is proposed and then a consensus criterion is derived, which ensures bounded consensus of linear multi-agent systems. The Zeno behavior is also successfully excluded. Finally, a numerical simulation is presented to validate theoretical results.

Sleep staging has important significance for the monitoring, prevention and treatment of sleep disorders. In this study, the clustering algorithm of K-means is investigated in order to realize the automatic sleep stage classification. Unlike the traditional K-means clustering algorithm, density-distance-based processing procedures were presented to determine the cluster centers. Additionally, the clustering results were amended based on the regularity of sleep stages during one's overnight sleep process. The presented algorithm was tested and analyzed in detail with six subjects from the Sleep-EDF database. The averaged accuracy is about 74%. Comparing with the traditional K-means clustering algorithm, the developed algorithm achieved more accurate and reasonable sleep staging results which can be an assistant tool for clinical inspection. © 2019 IEEE.

Chloramine (NH2Cl) is widely used in water treatment and can be effectively activated by far-UVC radiation at 222 nm to generate various radicals, facilitating the decomposition of micropollutants. Experiments and modelling revealed that the innate quantum yields (Фinn) of NH2Cl were higher at 222 nm (0.59−0.62 mol/Einstein) compared to 254−300 nm wavelengths (0.20−0.35 mol/Einstein) at pH 6.0−8.0. Compared with far-UVC alone process, the far-UVC/NH2Cl process exhibited superior efficiency and pseudo-first-order rate constants (kobs) in degrading carbamazepine (CBZ) and N,N-diethyl-3-toluamide (DEET). However, there was negligible effect on CBZ and DEET degradation by NH2Cl alone. Additionally, the kobs of selected micropollutants by far-UVC/NH2Cl were 1.7~11.6 times higher compared to treatment with far-UVC alone. The main radical species in the far-UVC/NH2Cl included hydroxyl radicals (HO•), reactive chlorine species (RCS) and reactive nitrogen species (RNS). Notably, HO• (22.3%), RCS (63.7%) and far-UVC (14.0%) mostly contributed to CBZ degradation, whereas HO• (31.8%), RNS (37.2%) and far-UVC (22.0%) were vital to DEET degradation at pH 7.0 by far-UVC/NH2Cl. Increasing NH2Cl dosage enhanced the removal efficiencies of both CBZ and DEET, suggesting a rise in radical concentrations. In contrast, the effect of pH on the degradation of CBZ and DEET was slight due to relatively stable Фinn at pH 6.0−8.0. Despite slight inhibition by chloride ions (Cl−), alkalinity (HCO3−), and humic acid (HA) owing to radical scavenging and/or light screening, efficient removal of CBZ and DEET by far-UVC/NH2Cl was achievable in different real waters. The formation of disinfection by-products (DBPs) including seven C-DBPs and three N-DBPs increased over time. This paper focuses on designing dynamic event-triggered(DET) protocols for consensus control of general linear multi-agent systems(MASs). Design algorithms are constructed for DET protocols with static and adaptive coupling, respectively. The designed event-triggering conditions involve internal dynamic variables that depend on the error information of the system, which provide more flexibility to reduce the number of triggered events than the existing results on linear MASs. The protocol with adaptive coupling is of the fully distributed nature. It is proved that the proposed protocols can ensure consensus and are not Zeno. A numerical example is provided to illustrate the effectiveness and advantages of the designed protocols.

This paper presents an improved particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm based on the chaos of Zaslavskii to solve the path planning problem of Uninhabited Combat Air Vehicle (UCAV) in the threat battlefield. The proposed method uses the characteristics of traditional particle swarm optimization algorithm, such as fast convergence speed, ergodicity, randomness of chaotic motion and sensitivity to initial value. The chaos mapping formula of Zaslavskii is used to generate chaotic sequence and improves the inertia weight and random variables of PSO algorithm. The improved PSO algorithm is applied to bear on the problem of path planning of UCAV. It gradually escapes from the local optimal path and find the global optimal path in the complex and changeable battlefield environment. The simulation results show that the improved PSO algorithm can effectively accelerate the convergence speed and improve the optimal trajectory.
