Cobalt doping amount determines dominant reactive species in peroxymonosulfate activation via porous carbon catalysts co-doped by cobalt and nitrogen

Switching the reaction routes in peroxymonosulfate(PMS)-based advanced oxidation processes have attracted much attention but remain ***,a series of Co-N/C catalysts with different compositions and structures were prepared by using bimetallic zeolitic imidazolate frameworks based on ZIF-8 and ZIF-67(x Zn/Co-ZIFs).Results show that Co doping amount could mediate the transformation of the activation pathway of PMS over CoN/*** Co doping amount was less than 10%,the constructed x Co-N/C/PMS system(x≤10%)was singlet oxygen-dominated reaction;however further increasing Co doping amount would lead to the generation and coexistence of sulfate radicals and high-valent cobalt,besides singlet ***,the nitrogen-coordinated Co(Co-NX)sites could serve as main catalytically active sites to generate singlet *** excess Co doping amount caused the formation of Co nanoparticles from which leached Co ions were responsible for the generation of sulfate radicals and high-valent *** to undoped N/C,Co doping could significantly enhance the catalytic *** 0.5%Co-N/C could achieve the optimum degradation(0.488 min^(-1))and mineralization abilities(78.4%)of sulfamethoxazole among the investigated Co-N/C catalysts,which was superior to most of previously reported *** addition,the application prospects of the two systems in different environmental scenarios(pH,inorganic anions and natural organic matter)were assessed and showed different degradation *** study provides a strategy to regulate the reactive species in PMS-based advanced oxidation process.

Airborne microorganisms(AM)have significant environmental and health *** studies have been conducted to investigate the factors influencing the composition and diversity of ***,the knowledge of AM with anthropogenic activities has not reach a *** this study,we took advantage of the dramatic decline of outdoor anthropogenic activities resulting from COVID-19 lockdown to reveal their *** collected airborne particulate matter before and during the lockdown period in two *** results showed that it was fungal diversity and communities but not bacteria obviously different between pre-lockdownand lockdown samples,suggesting that airborne fungiwere more susceptible to anthropogenic activities than ***,after the implementation of lockdown,the co-occurrence networks of both bacterial and fungal community became more complex,whichmight be due to the variation of microbial ***,Mantel test and correlation analysis showed that air pollutants also partly contributed to microbial *** fungal community was more affected by air pollutants than bacterial ***,some human pathogens like Nigrospora and Arthrinium were negatively correlated with air ***,our study highlighted the more impacts of anthropogenic activities on airborne fungal community than bacterial community and advanced the understanding of associations between anthropogenic activities and AM.

Nitrogenization is an effective method for improving the capacitive deionization(CDI)performance of porous carbon *** particular,polymer organic frameworks with heteroatom doping,containing an ordered pore structure and excellent electrochemical stability,are ideal precursors for carbon materials for high-performance *** this study,a nitrogen-enriched micro-mesoporous carbon(NMC)electrode was fabricated by carbonizing a Schiff base network-1 at 500,600,and 700℃.Scanning electron microscopy,Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy,X-ray diffraction,N_(2) adsorption-desorption,the contact angle of water,cyclic voltammetry,and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy were used to characterize the morphological structure,wettability,Brunauer–Emmett–Teller surface areas,and electrochemical performance of the *** results showed that the NMC carbonized at 600℃ achieved the best specific capacitance(152.33 F/g),as well as a high electrosorption capacity(25.53 mg/g)because of its chemical composition(15.57%N)and surface area(312 m^(2)/g).These findings prove that NMC is viable as an electrode material for desalination by high-performance CDI applications.

Flotation separation of spodumene and albite with activation of calcium ion hydrolysate components

It is difficult to separate spodumene and albite by flotation with calcium ion as *** this study,microflotation experiment,solution chemistry calculation,density functional theory(DFT)calculation and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS)analysis were conducted to investigate the effect mechanism of c alcium hydrolysate on the flotation separation of spodumene and *** show that the weak interaction intensity of Ca^(2+)with O atoms on the mineral surface makes it difficult to activate minerals *** O atom in the hydroxyl group of Ca(OH)^(+)and Ca(OH)_(2)can be strongly bonded with Al atom on the mineral surface,which greatly improves the adsorption *** the activation of Ca(OH)^(+),the adsorption forms of collectors on the surface of spodumene and albite are quite different,and the adsorption intensity on the surface of spodumene is higher,which is conducive to the flotation separation of spodumene and *** the action of Ca(OH)_(2),the adsorption of the collector on the albite surface is stronger than that of spodumene,which is not conducive to the flotation separation of the two *** adjusting the initial concentration of calcium ions and pulp pH,Ca(OH)^(+)is the main active component,which is the key to improve the separation effect of spodumene and albite.

Compacted clay liners are extensively used as barriers to control the upward diffusion of vapors of volatile or semi-volatile organic contaminants released from unsaturated contaminated soils at industrycontaminated *** study aimed to investigate the gas diffusion barrier performance of compacted clayey soils amended with three agents including attapulgite and diatomite individually,and attapulgite/diatomite *** properties including water retention,volumetric shrinkage,gas diffusion,and unconfined compressive strength were evaluated through a series of laboratory tests of amended compacted clayey *** results demonstrate that the decrease in volume proportions of interaggregate pores leads to an increase in unconfined compressive strength(qu).Both hydrophilic groups and microstructures of attapulgite and diatomite result in an increase in water retention percent(Wt)of compacted clayey soil specimens after amendment regardless of the type of agent or initial water content(w0).Furthermore,the ratio of the gas diffusion coefficient(De)to the gas diffusion coefficient in the air(Da)was significantly reduced owing to a decrease in volume proportions of inter-aggregate pores,hydrophilic group,and microstructures of attapulgite and *** electron microscope analyses revealed that rod-shaped attapulgite filled the inter-aggregate pores formed by clay particles,whereas the disc-shaped diatomite particles,characterized by micropores,failed to obstruct the interaggregate pores due to their larger particle *** intrusion porosimetry(MIP)analyses showed a reduction in pore volume in the inter-aggregate pores,leading to a reduction in the total pore volume for both the attapulgite and attapulgite/diatomite mixture amended clays,which is in accordance with the scanning electron microscope(SEM)*** findings are pertinent to the practical application of compacted clay liners as gas barriers against the upward migration of volatile or s

Insights into the floatability between spodumene and albite from crystal chemistry standpoint

Spodumene is a silicate mineral rich in ***,the gangue mineral,albite has similar crystal chemical structure and composition to *** this work,the density functional theory(DFT)calculation was taken to research the floatability from the perspective of crystal *** contact angle test and reagent adsorption test were used to support the simulation *** addition,the weighted total density of broken bonds is proposed for the first time to judge the generation probability of cleavage *** DFT calculation results display that the Na and Al sites on the albite surface are the adsorption sites of water *** the water molecules only bond with Al atom on the surface of spodumene and each Al site can adsorb only one water ***,the wetting effect of water molecules on the albite surface is stronger than that of *** is consistent with the result of contact *** sodium oleate system,the oleic acid anion is adsorbed on the spodumene surface in form of a multicomponent ring while the albite is a single ***,oleic acid anion can be strongly adsorbed on the surface of spodumene and albite under *** adsorption strength of spodumene is higher than that of ***,on hydrated surface,the adsorption strength of oleic acid anion on mineral surface is greatly reduced due to the interaction between water molecules and metal site on mineral ***,spodumene and albite are hard to float without external activated ions in sodium oleate system.

With rapid global industrialization, environmental pollution has become one of the major problems of human society. Photocatalysis can be applied to solve environmental problem by using inexhaustible solar energy. As a novel two-dimensional material, graphite carbon nitride (g-C3N4) has been widely applied in many photocatalytic reactions. However, in terms of its practical applications, g-C3N4 still has limitations, including poor photoexcited charge separation, limited range of visible light absorption, and low surface areas. Hence, current research on g-C3N4 mainly focuses on improving its photocatalytic performance. In this review, we summarize various methods to improve g-C3N4’s light absorption and photo-induced charge transfer, including vacancy engineering, morphology control, heteroatom doping, and forming heterostructure. The applications of g-C3N4 and its derivatives in photodegradation of organic pollutants are also discussed in detail. Finally, the challenges and future research directions of g-C3N4 photocatalysts are summarized to promote their environmental applications. Structural Characteristics and Properties of Ca-Sa-Pw/Eg Adsorbed into Porous Cement-Based for Thermal Storage

In this work, a ternary phase change material (PCM) was manufactured by mixing capric acid-stearic acid (CA-SA) and paraffin (PW) and packaged and shaped with expanded graphite (EG) as a carrier. The CA-SA-PW/EG material cement mortar was prepared by direct stirring, and its thermal conductivity, thermal stability, and heat storage properties were investigated. When the PCM content reaches 15% (PCM-4), the thermal conductivity of the composite phase change cement plate is 1.566 W/(m·K). During the static heat storage, the PCM-4 cement plate showed evident thermal stagnation, reduced by 4.7 ℃. In the light heat storage, when the heating surface of each cement plate reaches 55 ℃, the temperature difference between the heating surface and the light surface of PCM-4 is 23.11 ℃. The heating surface drops to 16.5 ℃, PCM-4 cement plate takes 3500s, delaying the temperature change effectively. The maximum temperature difference between the inner and outer surface of PCM-4 is 14.039 ℃ in the microchamber temperature control characteristics with 400 W heating, which is 62.5% larger than the ordinary cement plate. Moreover, the temperature damping of the cement plate reaches 1.30 in the range of 22-32 ℃. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Cadmium (Cd) is a typical nitrification inhibitor, which has a strong inhibitory effect on partial nitrification (PN). The discrepancy on Cd tolerance of PN sludge caused by low-intensity ultrasound (LIU) was studied. It suggested that the half inhibitory concentration (IC50) of sludge was increased from 24.51 to 29.07 mg/L by 35 days of ultrasonic treatment, and the Cd tolerance of sludge was enhanced. Further analysis indicated that contents of extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) rose substantially because of LIU, which played a catalytic role on increasing adsorption capacity of PN sludge for Cd. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.
