Conducting polymers (CPs) have emerged as promising materials for gas sensors due to their organic nature coupled with unique and versatile optical, electrical, chemical, and electrochemical properties. This review provides a comprehensive overview of the latest developments in conducting polymer-based gas sensors. First, the fundamental gas sensing mechanisms in CPs-based sensors are elucidated, covering diverse transduction modes including electrochemical, chemiresistive, optical, piezoelectric, and field-effect transistor-based sensing. Next, the various types of conducting polymers employed in gas sensors, such as polypyrrole, polyaniline, polythiophene, and their composites are introduced, with emphasis on their synthesis methods, structural characteristics, and gas sensing response properties. Finally, the wide range of applications of these sensors is discussed, spanning industrial process control, environmental monitoring, food safety, biomedical diagnosis, and other fields, as well as existing issues such as long-term stability and humidity interference, and a summary of the biocompatibility and regulatory standards of these conductive polymers is provided. By integrating insights from sensing mechanisms, materials, and applications, this review offers a holistic understanding of CPs-based gas sensors. It also highlights future research directions, including device miniaturization, AI-assisted gas identification, multifunctional integrated sensing systems, wearable and flexible sensor platforms, and enhanced sensitivity, selectivity, and on-site detection capabilities. © 2025 by the authors.

Effect of nano- and micron-materials on the thermal properties behavior in wet environments and heat transfer mechanism of foam concrete

Foamed concrete is a lightweight material with low thermal conductivity, widely used in civil engineering. However, its insulation performance slightly underperforms compared to organic insulation materials, while its porous structure results in poor impermeability and high moisture content, further affecting its thermal conductivity in wet environments. To improve the properties of foamed concrete, we incorporated aerogels (AG), hollow glass microspheres (HGM), and nano-silica (NS) in foamed concrete and adopted an orthogonal test to find the optimal behavior. The results show that adding 4 % AG reduced the moisture content of foamed concrete in a wet saturated state by 17.4 %, while the thermal conductivity in a dry state was reduced by 44.29 % and that in a wet saturated state was reduced by 18.1 %. On the other side, the addition of 4 % HGM also reduced the moisture content in a wet saturated state by 18.4 %, while the thermal conductivity in a dry state and a wet saturated state decreased by 17.13 % and 18.07 %, respectively. In contrast, although the addition of 4 % NS decreased the moisture content in a wet saturated state by 5.2 %, the thermal conductivity in a dry state and a wet saturated state increased by 17.83 % and 5.3 %, respectively. The effect of these nano- and micro-materials on the density of foamed concrete was analyzed, and an equation fitting the relationship between the moisture content and thermal conductivity was determined. We applied X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) to better understand the relations between the microstructure and properties of the synthesized materials. Finally, the effect of these additives on the heat transfer mechanism in foamed concrete was discussed. © 2025 Elsevier Ltd

To mitigate structural damage induced by impact, a prefabricated double vertical rectangular steel tube (PDVRST) sandwich sacrificial panel (SSP) was proposed and investigated by low-velocity impact tests and numerical simulations in this study. The experimental findings indicated that the integrity of the top steel plate is crucial for the impact resistance of the PDVRST-SSP. The double-layer PDVRST-SSP demonstrated a distinct multi-stage energy absorption process. The results of the numerical parametric studies on hammer shape (circular and rectangular) and diameter revealed that the central region of PDVRST-SSP exhibited greater indentation depth under circular hammer impacts compared to rectangular hammer impacts. Additionally, the hammer diameter and shape significantly influenced the stress distribution and deformation characteristics within the steel tubes, leading to different stress responses, which in turn markedly affected the impact resistance of the specimen. © 2025 Institution of Structural Engineers

Effects of key parameters and combined action on the collapse performance of single-story beam-column assembly and multi-story planar frame

To demonstrate the rationality of the key parameters settings during the loading process for both single-story beam-column assemblies (SSBCAs) and multi-story planar frames (MSPFs) conducted in the past, including the restraint at the end of failed column on the collapse-resistant performance of the SSBCAs, and the loading position of the concentrated force and axial compression ratio (ACR) on the collapse performance of model MSPFs, the extensive numerical simulation were conducted. The results indicated that when the ACR was less than 0.5, the application of axial compression at the top of the adjacent columns had a minor influence on the structural collapse capacity. However, as the ACR increased further, the additional bending moment imparted by the composite beams on the adjacent columns exceeded the critical bending moment, leading to a significant decline in the structural collapse resistance. On this basis, considering the actual boundary restrains, the numerical model of the surrounding frames around the sub-frame was developed utilizing the hybrid element expansion method, to allowed for an investigation into the effects of interaction action among different stories and combined action between the composite slab with profiled steel decking (CSWPSD) and steel beam on the collapse performance of SSBCAs and MSPFs. The finding revealed that the collapse resistance of SSBCA is not simply a multiple of that of MSFP. Notably, the presence of the Vierendeel action is detrimental to the catenary mechanism development in the upper-story beams. Furthermore, the incorporation of CSWPSD can effectively improve the early collapse resistances of frame structures by range of 25–30 %, and it significantly improves the later collapse resistances of the SSBCAs, but has a relatively limited influence on the later bearing capacities of the MSPFs. © 2025 Institution of Structural Engineers

Air Infiltration Characteristics of Narrow Cracks Under Mechanical Ventilation in Oxygen-Enhanced and Heated Chambers on the Plateau

At high altitudes, low atmospheric pressure and hypoxia can lead to altitude sickness. Oxygen-enhanced and heated chambers provide an effective solution. However, existing research primarily focuses on air infiltration through wide cracks in heated chambers at low altitudes, with limited investigation into narrow cracks under low-pressure conditions. This study employs numerical simulations to examine air infiltration characteristics of narrow cracks under mechanical ventilation in low-pressure conditions, considering multiple factors including crack geometry, surface roughness, atmospheric pressure, and oxygen concentration gradients. The results are validated using an extreme plateau environment simulation platform. It is shown that the crack height is the most sensitive factor affecting air infiltration load. As atmospheric pressure decreases, heat load can decrease by up to 36.76%. Additionally, smaller crack widths reduce sensitivity to crack shape and atmospheric pressure, though roughness sensitivity increases with decreasing width. When the aspect ratio exceeds 104, heat and oxygen loads exhibit a linear relationship with width. Longer cracks reduce heat and oxygen transfer efficiency. Moreover, buildings with crack heights under 1 mm possess better air tightness. Finally, a simplified calculation model for the air change rate of narrow cracks under mechanical ventilation at high altitudes is established. The findings of this study provide a theoretical basis for calculating heat and oxygen loads in high-altitude regions and practical guidance for optimizing window and door crack dimensions in high air-tightness buildings. © 2025, The Authors. Tuojiang River Basin is a first-class tributary of the upper reaches of the Yangtze River—which is the longest river in *** phytoplankton are sensitive indicators of trophic changes inwater bodies,characterizing phytoplankton communities and their growth influencing factors in polluted urban rivers can provide new ideas for pollution ***,we used direct microscopic count and environmental DNA(eDNA)metabarcoding methods to investigate phytoplankton community structure in Tuojiang River Basin(Chengdu,Sichuan Province,China).The association between phytoplankton community structure and water environmental factors was evaluated by Mantel *** environmental monitoring data were used to pinpoint major factors that influenced phytoplankton growth based on structural equation *** the phylum level,the dominant phytoplankton taxa identified by the conventional microscopic method mainly belonged to Bacillariophyta,Chlorophyta,and Cyanophyta,in contrast with Chlorophyta,Dinophyceae,and Bacillariophyta identified by eDNA ***α-diversity analysis,eDNA metabarcoding detected greater species diversity and achieved higher precision than the microscopic *** growth was largely limited by phosphorus based on the nitrogen-to-phosphorus ratios>16:1 in all water *** analysis and structural equation modeling also confirmed that the nitrogen-to-phosphorus ratio was the principal factor influencing phytoplankton *** results could be useful for implementing comprehensive management of the river basin *** is recommended to control the discharge of point-and surface-source pollutants and the concentration of dissolved oxygen in areas with excessive nutrients(e.g.,Jianyang-Ziyang).Algae monitoring techniques and removal strategies should be improved in 201 Hospital,Hongrihe Bridge and Colmar Town areas.

Effect of biaxial strain on monolayer and defective SnSe2 systems: A first-principles study

In this study, the structural stability, electronic structure, and optical properties of monolayer 2D material SnSe2 and Se vacancy defect systems under biaxial strain were investigated based on first-principle calculations. The findings showed that the structural stability of a single Se vacancy system is higher than that of a single Sn or two Se vacancy systems. In addition, phonon spectra and AIMD calculations verified the rationality and excellent dynamics stability of the SnSe2 structure. Electronic structure analysis showed that pristine monolayer SnSe2 is an indirect bandgap semiconductor with a bandgap of 0.851 eV. The vacancies of Se atoms make the SnSe2 system close to semi-metallic properties, significantly improving its conductivity. Under the compressive strain of 3%, the band gap type of the defect system is transformed. The optical properties showed that the peak of Ε1(ω) and Ε2(ω) for the pristine monolayer SnSe2 system produced a redshift under biaxial tensile strain. After the Se atom vacancy, the peak of Ε1(ω) and Ε2(ω) increased significantly. The absorption and reflection peaks of the pristine monolayer SnSe2 and Se vacancy systems were redshifted under the biaxial compressive strain and blue-shifted under the biaxial tensile strain. The combined action of defects and biaxial strain enhances light absorption in the infrared region and provides a powerful theoretical basis for exploring optoelectronics. © 2025 Elsevier B.V.

Hopper is an essential vessel for storing and transporting burden materials. Numerous studies have focused on the particle flow pattern and mass flow rate (MFR) within a symmetric hopper. However, there is still a lack of research on the effect of asymmetric hopper configuration on discharge behavior. In this work, the effects of asymmetric configuration and particle size distribution on particle flow pattern and MFR during discharge are examined. Moreover, the micro-jamming mechanism and physical characteristics of arch are also investigated. Results illustrate that particles within cone part of the asymmetric hopper exhibit significant velocity variations, which prevents the formation of stable contact force chains. To accurately quantify mass flow rate, a modified Beverloo equation is used and a relative mean error (RME) of 4 % for monodisperse systems and 9 % for polydisperse systems are obtained in comparison with DEM simulation results. © 2024

Study on Surrounding Rock Control technology of Gob-Gob Roadway Driven by Fully Mechanized Caving With Large Mining Height and Small Coal Pillar in Extra Thick Coal Seam

To investigate the ground pressure control in gob-side roadways with small coal pillars in deep and high fully mechanized caving faces, a study was conducted based on the return airway of the 2-2 coal seam in the 130203 face of Zao Quan Coal Mine of Guo Neng Ning Mei Group. The deformation of the original roadway and the failure of bolts and cables were analyzed. Based on the soil pressure theory, a stress field model was constructed for the rock surrounding the roadway. Calculations showed that the internal stress field ranged 8.8–9.5 m, the advance peak pressure ranged 15–22 m, and the bearing pressure influence ranged 175–190 m. Through FLAC3D simulations, it was found that the stress on a 5-m coal column was 7.01 MPa, while the stress on a 15-m coal column reached 65.25 MPa. Field measurements showed that the deformation of small coal pillars was 690 mm, compared to 370 mm for solid coal pillars, with asymmetric deformation. The bottom heave varied to 750 mm, with a local maximum of 1400 mm. The analysis showed that the roof rock beam fractured above the side of the 5 m small coal pillar due to the influence of an anticline structure, leading to the proposal of an asymmetric control mechanism. Grouting pillars and individual supports were used for support, and the technology was successfully applied in the field, meeting the production requirements. The gob-side roadway technology with small coal pillars was successfully implemented in the 130203 face, providing a scientific basis for mining in similar mines. © 2025 The Author(s).
