Extracting justifications for web ontology language(OWL)ontologies is an important mission in ontology *** this paper,we focus on black-box techniques which are based on ontology *** creating a recursive expansion procedure,all elements which are called critical axioms in the justification are explored one by *** this detection procedure,an axiom selection function is used to avoid testing irrelevant *** addition,an incremental reasoning procedure has been proposed in order to substitute series of standard reasoning tests *** is implemented by employing a pseudo model to detect“obvious”satisfiability *** experimental results show that our proposed strategy for extracting justifications for OWL ontologies by adopting incremental expansion is superior to traditional Black-box methods in terms of efficiency and performance.

Document-Level Relation Extraction with Entity Type Constraints

Long-tail problem and multi-label problem are two commonly encountered challenges in document-level relation extraction task. Current efforts are concerned with enhancing the representations of entity pairs through Transformer or document graphs, which cannot tackle the above challenges well. Relation correlations are a potential solution, which allows head relations to assist in the training of tail ones by transferring correlation knowledge between them, and can measure the semantic distance between relations to assist the classifier in assigning multiple semantically similar relations to multi-label instances. This paper proposes to learn relation correlations from both global and local views using entity type constraints, which means that the subject-object entity types limit the scope of possible relations. Globally, we statistically construct the Type-constrained Graph between entity types and relations, which formulates all possible subject/object types for each relation. Different relations are connected by common entity types, reflecting the desired correlations. Locally, given an entity pair, the classification probability of relations matching its entity types should be greater than those unmatched. Therefore, the Type-constrained Loss is proposed to make the matched relations have greater probabilities. Detailed experiments are conducted on DocRED and DWIE datasets, and our model significantly outperforms baselines under long-tail and multi-label setups. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Prompt Tuning Pushes Farther, Contrastive Learning Pulls Closer: A Two-Stage Approach to Mitigate Social Biases

As the representation capability of Pre-trained Language Models (PLMs) improve, there is growing concern that they will inherit social biases from unprocessed corpora. Most previous debiasing techniques used Counterfactual Data Augmentation (CDA) to balance the training corpus. However, CDA slightly modifies the original corpus, limiting the representation distance between different demographic groups to a narrow range. As a result, the debiasing model easily fits the differences between counterfactual pairs, which affects its debiasing performance with limited text resources. In this paper, we propose an adversarial training-inspired two-stage debiasing model using Contrastive learning with Continuous Prompt Augmentation (named CCPA) to mitigate social biases in PLMs’ encoding. In the first stage, we propose a data augmentation method based on continuous prompt tuning to push farther the representation distance between sample pairs along different demographic groups. In the second stage, we utilize contrastive learning to pull closer the representation distance between the augmented sample pairs and then fine-tune PLMs’ parameters to get debiased encoding. Our approach guides the model to achieve stronger debiasing performance by adding difficulty to the training process. Extensive experiments show that CCPA outperforms baselines in terms of debiasing performance. Meanwhile, experimental results on the GLUE benchmark show that CCPA retains the language modeling capability of PLMs. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Learning Generalizable Agents via Saliency-Guided Features Decorrelation

In visual-based Reinforcement Learning (RL), agents often struggle to generalize well to environmental variations in the state space that were not observed during training. The variations can arise in both task-irrelevant features, such as background noise, and task-relevant features, such as robot configurations, that are related to the optimal decisions. To achieve generalization in both situations, agents are required to accurately understand the impact of changed features on the decisions, i.e., establishing the true associations between changed features and decisions in the policy model. However, due to the inherent correlations among features in the state space, the associations between features and decisions become entangled, making it difficult for the policy to distinguish them. To this end, we propose Saliency-Guided Features Decorrelation (SGFD) to eliminate these correlations through sample reweighting. Concretely, SGFD consists of two core techniques: Random Fourier Functions (RFF) and the saliency map. RFF is utilized to estimate the complex non-linear correlations in high-dimensional images, while the saliency map is designed to identify the changed features. Under the guidance of the saliency map, SGFD employs sample reweighting to minimize the estimated correlations related to changed features, thereby achieving decorrelation in visual RL tasks. Our experimental results demonstrate that SGFD can generalize well on a wide range of test environments and significantly outperforms state-of-the-art methods in handling both task-irrelevant variations and task-relevant variations. CCDD: A Tractable Representation for Model Counting and Uniform Sampling

knowledge compilation concerns with the compilation of representation languages to target languages supporting a wide range of tractable operations arising from diverse areas of computer science. Tractable target compilation languages are usually achieved by restrictions on the internal nodes (∧ or ∨) of the NNF. In this paper, we propose a new representation language CCDD, which introduces new restrictions on conjunction nodes to capture equivalent literals. We show that CCDD supports two key queries, model counting and uniform samping, in polytime. We present algorithms and a compiler to compile propositional formulas expressed in CNF into CCDD. Experiments over a large set of benchmarks show that our compilation times are better with smaller representations than state-of-art Decision-DNNF, SDD and OBDD[∧] compilers. We apply our techniques to model counting and uniform sampling, and develop model counter and uniform sampler on CNF. Our empirical evaluation demonstrates the following significant improvements: our model counter can solve 885 instances while the prior state of the art solved only 843 instances, representing an improvement of 43 instances;and our uniform sampler can solve 780 instances while the prior state of the art solved only 648 instances, representing an improvement of 132 instances. Spatial transcriptomics (ST) has enabled us elucidating tumor microenvironments, however, the technological limitations without single-cell resolution severely hinder its application. Here, we propose CellMirror, an interpretable contrastive learning model to decipher heterogeneous cell populations in ST data by single-cell RNA-sequencing (scRNA-seq) data. Specifically, CellMirror learns the disentangled shared (representing biological variations in both data) and salient features (specific to ST data) by two contrastive variational encoders, while constructing the relations between genes and features by a shared linear decoder. In various cancer samples, CellMirror outperforms other tools in learning common features for label transfer, and interpretation of features. Particularly, in breast cancer studies, CellMirror detects finer domains in ST data missed by other methods, and is robust to dissect cell populations in ST data using independent scRNA-seq data. These results demonstrate applications of CellMirror in interpreting the complex tumor structure in ST data by integrating scRNA-seq data. © 2023 IEEE.

Segmenting regions of interest in histopathology images is a critical prerequisite for biomedical applications. CNN-based models have advanced medical image segmentation, yet accurately delineating boundaries is still challenging. This challenge arises from the loss of spatial resolution due to downsampling and the complexity of capturing contextual information when upsampling to the original resolution. To address these issues, we design U-HRMLP, a U-shaped network based on a hybrid combination of HRNet and Multi-Layer Perceptron (MLP). Specifically, we propose a multi-scale feature fusion module to avoid the loss of image resolution in the encoding stage as much as possible. Simultaneously, we propose an MLP-based decoding block to recover image details and resolution progressively, alleviating the issues related to the inadequate segmentation of smaller objects and the blurring of tissue boundaries. Results on the MoNuSeg and GlaS datasets demonstrate that U-HRMLP outperforms conventional or transformer-based methods and achieves state-of- the-art performance.

DK-STN: A Domain knowledge Embedded Spatio-Temporal Network Model for MJO Forecast

Understanding and predicting the Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO) is fundamental for precipitation forecasting and disaster prevention. To date, long-term and accurate MJO prediction has remained a challenge for researchers. Conventional MJO prediction methods using Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) are resource-intensive, time-consuming, and highly unstable. While existing Artificial Neural Network (ANN) methods save resources and speed forecasting, their accuracy never reaches the 28 days predicted by the state-of-the-art NWP method, i.e., the ECMWF, since neural networks cannot handle climate data effectively. In this paper, we present a Domain knowledge Embedded Spatio-Temporal Network (DK-STN), a stable neural network model for accurate and efficient MJO forecasting. It combines the benefits of NWP and ANN methods and successfully improves the forecast accuracy of ANN methods while maintaining a high level of efficiency and stability. We begin with a spatial-temporal network (STN) and embed domain knowledge in it using two key methods: (i) applying a domain knowledge enhancement method and (ii) integrating a domain knowledge processing method into network training. We evaluated DK-STN with the 5th generation of ECMWF reanalysis (ERA5) data and compared it with ECMWF. Given 7 days of climate data as input, DK-STN can generate reliable forecasts for the following 28 days in 1-2 seconds, with an error of only 2-3 days in different seasons. DK-STN significantly exceeds ECMWF in that its forecast accuracy is equivalent to ECMWF's, while its efficiency and stability are significantly superior. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

—Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have emerged as the potential aerial base stations (BSs) to improve terrestrial communications. However, the limited onboard energy and antenna power of a UAV restrict its communication range and transmission capability. To address these limitations, this work employs collaborative beamforming through a UAV-enabled virtual antenna array to improve transmission performance from the UAV to terrestrial mobile users, under interference from non-associated BSs and dynamic channel conditions. Specifically, we introduce a memory-based random walk model to more accurately depict the mobility patterns of terrestrial mobile users. Following this, we formulate a multi-objective optimization problem (MOP) focused on maximizing the transmission rate while minimizing the flight energy consumption of the UAV swarm. Given the NP-hard nature of the formulated MOP and the highly dynamic environment, we transform this problem into a multi-objective Markov decision process and propose an improved evolutionary multi-objective reinforcement learning algorithm. Specifically, this algorithm introduces an evolutionary learning approach to obtain the approximate Pareto set for the formulated MOP. Moreover, the algorithm incorporates a long short-term memory network and hyper-sphere-based task selection method to discern the movement patterns of terrestrial mobile users and improve the diversity of the obtained Pareto set. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed method effectively generates a diverse range of non-dominated policies and outperforms existing methods. Additional simulations demonstrate the scalability and robustness of the proposed CB-based method under different system parameters and various unexpected circumstances. © 2025 Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc..
