Machine translation focuses mainly on high-resource languages (HRLs), while low-resource languages (LRLs) like Taiwanese Hokkien are relatively under-explored. The study aims to address this gap by developing a dual translation model between Taiwanese Hokkien and both Traditional Mandarin Chinese and English. We employ a pre-trained LLaMA 2-7B model specialized in Traditional Mandarin Chinese to leverage the orthographic similarities between Taiwanese Hokkien Han and Traditional Mandarin Chinese. Our comprehensive experiments involve translation tasks across various writing systems of Taiwanese Hokkien as well as between Taiwanese Hokkien and other HRLs. We find that the use of a limited monolingual corpus still further improves the model's Taiwanese Hokkien capabilities. We then utilize our translation model to standardize all Taiwanese Hokkien writing systems into Hokkien Han, resulting in further performance improvements. Additionally, we introduce an evaluation method incorporating back-translation and GPT-4 to ensure reliable translation quality assessment even for LRLs. The study contributes to narrowing the resource gap for Taiwanese Hokkien and empirically investigates the advantages and limitations of pre-training and fine-tuning based on LLaMA 2. © 2024 ELRA Language Resource Association: CC BY-NC 4.0.

With the ever-expanding ubiquity of the Internet, wireless networks have permeated every facet of modern life, escalating concerns surrounding network security for users. Consequently, the demand for a robust Intrusion Detection System (IDS) has surged. The IDS serves as a critical bastion within the security framework, a significance further magnified in wireless networks where intrusions may stem from the deluge of sensor data. This influx of data, however, inevitably taxes the efficiency and computational speed of IDS. To address these limitations, numerous strategies for enhancing IDS performance have been posited by researchers. This paper introduces a novel feature selection method grounded in Support Vector Machine (SVM) and harnessing the innovative modified Aquila Optimizer (mAO) for Intrusion Detection Systems in Wireless Sensor Networks. To evaluate the efficacy of our approach, we employed the KDD'99 dataset for testing and benchmarking against established methods. Multiple performance metrics, including accuracy, detection rate, false alarm rate, feature count, and execution time, were utilized for assessment. Our comparative analysis reveals the superiority of the proposed method, with standout results in terms of feature reduction, detection accuracy, and false alarm mitigation, yielding significant improvements of 11%, 98.76%, and 0.02%, respectively. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2023.

Nowadays, we usually compress images before uploading them to social media. However, images on social media can easily be copied, so embedding secret messages in compressed images has become increasingly popular. There are many compression methods, such as Huffman, VQ, ZIP, AMBTC, RAR, JPEG, etc. In this article, we propose an improved data hiding in VQ compression method to achieve better capacity and high quality. Experimental results show that our data-hiding approach is practical. ©2024 IEEE.

Subject-driven text-to-image generation aims to generate customized images of the given subject based on the text descriptions, which has drawn increasing attention. Existing methods mainly resort to finetuning a pretrained generative model, where the identity-relevant information (e.g., the boy) and the identity-irrelevant information (e.g., the background or the pose of the boy) are entangled in the latent embedding space. However, the highly entangled latent embedding may lead to the failure of subject-driven text-to-image generation as follows: (i) the identity-irrelevant information hidden in the entangled embedding may dominate the generation process, resulting in the generated images heavily dependent on the irrelevant information while ignoring the given text descriptions;(ii) the identity-relevant information carried in the entangled embedding can not be appropriately preserved, resulting in identity change of the subject in the generated images. To tackle the problems, we propose DisenBooth, an identity-preserving disentangled tuning framework for subject-driven text-to-image generation. Specifically, DisenBooth finetunes the pretrained diffusion model in the denoising process. Different from previous works that utilize an entangled embedding to denoise each image, DisenBooth instead utilizes disentangled embeddings to respectively preserve the subject identity and capture the identity-irrelevant information. We further design the novel weak denoising and contrastive embedding auxiliary tuning objectives to achieve the disentanglement. Extensive experiments show that our proposed DisenBooth framework outperforms baseline models for subject-driven text-to-image generation with the identity-preserved embedding. Rapid development of software significantly facilitates developers in all phases of software development. Developers can easily leverage frameworks, content management systems (CMS), and libraries available in each programming language. With the large and rapid addition of frameworks, CMS, and libraries, developers must be able to choose precisely which ones to use based on the requirements of their software development projects. The utilization of machine learning for segmentation or clustering enables developers to identify groups of frameworks, CMS, and libraries by leveraging features obtained from static analysis, such as the size of codebases, complexities, structures, and other code characteristics. One algorithm that can be used for segmentation is K-means clustering. However, the availability of datasets is crucial as it can offer information about the code characteristics of each software. The use of machine learning on datasets can be an ongoing research area in software development related to utilizing code characteristics in software analysis. This study provides a novel dataset for the domains of software development and machine learning. The dataset we created contains 30 instances and 68 features that can be utilized for related or future research. This research utilizes the Silhouette score to determine the optimal k value. © 2024 IEEE.

Ground-Glass Lung Nodules Recognition Based on CatBoost Feature Selection and Stacking Ensemble Learning

Aimed at the issue of high feature dimensionality, excessive data redundancy, and low recognition accuracy of using single classifiers on ground-glass lung nodule recognition, a recognition method based on CatBoost feature selection and Stacking ensemble learning was proposed. First, the method uses a feature selection algorithm to filter important features and remove features with less impact, achieving the effect of data dimensionality reduction. Second, random forests classifier, decision trees, K-nearest neighbor classifier, and light gradient boosting machine were used as base classifiers, and support vector machine was used as meta classifier to fuse and construct the ensemble learning model. This measure increases the accuracy of the classification model while maintaining the diversity of the base classifiers. The experimental results show that the recognition accuracy of the proposed method reaches 94.375%. Compared to the random forest algorithm with the best performance among single classifiers, the accuracy of the proposed method is increased by 1.875%. Compared to the recent deep learning methods (ResNet+GBM+Attention and MVCSNet) on ground-glass pulmonary nodule recognition, the proposed method’s performance is also better or comparative. Experiments show that the proposed model can effectively select features and make recognition on ground-glass pulmonary nodules. © Shanghai Jiao Tong University 2024.

Ensemble multifeatured deep learning methodology has emerged as a powerful approach to overcome the limitations of single deep learning models in terms of generalization, robustness, and performance. This survey provides an extended review of ensemble multifeatured deep learning models, and their applications, challenges, and future directions. We explore potential applications of these models across various domains, including computer vision, medical imaging, natural language processing, and speech recognition. By combining the strengths of multiple models and features, ensemble multifeatured deep learning models have demonstrated improved performance and adaptability in diverse problem settings. We also discuss the challenges associated with these models, such as model interpretability, computational complexity, ensemble model selection, adversarial robustness, and personalized and federated learning. This survey highlights recent advancements in addressing these challenges and emphasizes the importance of continued research in tackling these issues to enable widespread adoption of ensemble multifeatured deep learning models. It provides an outlook on future research directions, focusing on the development of new algorithms, frameworks, and hardware architectures that can efficiently handle the large-scale computations required by these models. Moreover, it underlines the need for a better understanding of the trade-offs between model complexity, accuracy, and computational resources to optimize the design and deployment of ensemble multifeatured deep learning models. © 2013 IEEE.

The rise of smart cities is directly connected to the increasing use of vehicles. The growing vehicle utilization has driven the emergence of Vehicular Ad-hoc Networks (VANETs), facilitating instant information exchange among vehicles. The system provides essential information regarding road conditions, traffic patterns, and more relevant data. VANETs encompass two fundamental categories of communication exchanges, namely Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) and Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2I). V2I technology facilitates the integration of cars and transportation infrastructure, enabling effective communication between vehicles and infrastructure. Nevertheless, the potential of V2I communication has various security concerns arising from prevalent security threats. Current authentication techniques encounter challenges regarding complexity, security, and privacy considerations. We designed a hash-based lightweight and anonymous authentication scheme to address the aforementioned restrictions and enhance the effectiveness of authentication in V2I architecture. This scheme effectively combines identity, password, and bio-metric to enhance resistance against impersonation, denial of service, and privileged insider attacks. The devised scheme distinguishes itself by a comparative analysis and security proofs, highlighting its superior capability in guaranteeing secure authentication in V2I communication. The comprehensive security analysis conducted formally and informally showcases the robustness of the proposed solution against several threats. The performance evaluation results show that our scheme demonstrates a decrease in the computational cost of 51.40% approximately and a reduction in communication overhead of around 22.57%. These results establish the efficiency and scalability of the proposed scheme as a viable solution for V2I architecture. © 2000-2011 IEEE.
