Feasibility of a trapped atom interferometer with accelerating optical traps

To increase the measured phase of an atom interferometer and improve its sensitivity, researchers attempt to increase the enclosed space-time area using two methods: creating larger separations between the interferometer arms and having longer evolution times. However, increasing the evolution time reduces the bandwidth that can be sampled, whereas decreasing the evolution time worsens the sensitivity. In this paper, we attempt to address this by proposing a setup for high-bandwidth applications, with improved overall sensitivity. This is realized by accelerating and holding the atoms using optical dipole traps. We find that accelerations of up to 103–105 m/s2 can be achieved using acousto-optic deflectors to move the traps. By comparing the sensitivity of our approach to acceleration as a baseline to traditional atom interferometry, we find a substantial improvement to the state of the art. In the limit of appropriate beam and optics stabilization, sensitivities approaching 10−14 (m/s2)/Hz may be achievable at 1 Hz, while detection at 1 kHz with a sensitivity an order of magnitude better than traditional free-fall atom interferometers is possible with today's systems.

AKDC: Ambiguous Kernel Distance Clustering Algorithm for COVID-19 CT Scans Analysis

Conventional soft clustering algorithms perform well on linearly distributed features, but their performance degrades on nonlinearly distributed features in high-dimensional space. In this study, a novel soft clustering algorithm, the ambiguous kernel distance clustering (AKDC) algorithm, is presented. This algorithm is developed by applying ambiguous set theory and the Gaussian kernel function. The ambiguous set theory defines the ambiguities inherent in each feature with four membership values: 1) true;2) false;3) true-ambiguous;and 4) false-ambiguous. The degree of membership values here forms a low-dimensional feature space that is not linearly distributed. Therefore, these nonlinearly distributed membership values are mapped into a high-dimensional feature space using the Gaussian kernel function. This study focuses on performing cluster analysis of computerized tomography scans of COVID-19 (CTSC-19) cases using AKDC. COVID-19, recognized as one of the most life-threatening diseases of this century, is highly contagious, and early diagnosis may prevent one-to-one transmission. Extensive empirical studies have been conducted with different types of CTSC-19 to demonstrate its effectiveness against existing kernel-based clustering and nonkernel-based clustering algorithms, namely mercer kernel fuzzy c-mean (MKFCM), kernel generalized FCM (KGFCM), kernel intuitionistic fuzzy entropy c-means (KIFECMs), morphological reconstruction and membership filtering clustering (FRFCM), and intuitionistic FCM based on membership information transferring and similarity measurements (IFCM-MS). The effectiveness of the proposed algorithm compared to the existing algorithms is evaluated using standard statistical metrics, such as dice index (DI), Jaccard index (JI), structural similarity index (SI), and correlation coefficient (CC). The empirical results show that AKDC is more effective than existing algorithms based on DI, JI, SI, and CC. © 2013 IEEE.

Agile development aims at rapidly developing software while embracing the continuous evolution of user requirements along the whole development *** stories are the primary means of requirements collection and elicitation in the agile development.A project can involve a large amount of user stories,which should be clustered into different groups based on their functionality’s similarity for systematic requirements analysis,effective mapping to developed features,and efficient ***,the current user story clustering is mainly conducted in a manual manner,which is time-consuming and subjective to human *** this paper,we propose a novel approach for clustering the user stories automatically on the basis of natural language ***,the sentence patterns of each component in a user story are first analysed and determined such that the critical structure in the representative tasks can be automatically extracted based on the user story *** similarity of user stories is calculated,which can be used to generate the connected graph as the basis of automatic user story *** evaluate the approach based on thirteen datasets,compared against ten baseline *** results show that our clustering approach has higher accuracy,recall rate and F1-score than these *** is demonstrated that the proposed approach can significantly improve the efficacy of user story clustering and thus enhance the overall performance of agile *** study also highlights promising research directions for more accurate requirements elicitation.

A significant proportion of web elements might manifest identical behaviors and functionalities, further complicating the test case creation process. We have noted that elements demonstrating congruent behavior and functionality frequently exhibit visual resemblances within the web page interface. In this paper, we propose a machine learning-based method to identify visually similar web elements. These identified elements can be brought to the attention of the tester. If the tester determines that these elements exhibit similar behavior, they can be visually marked on the web page, facilitating focused test case creation. A case study demonstrates its potential to make accurate judgments on several complex webpages. © 2023 IEEE.

The energy demand for Internet of Things (IoT) applications is increasing with a rise in IoT devices. Rising costs and energy demands can cause serious problems. Fog computing (FC) has recently emerged as a model for location-aware tasks, data processing, fast computing, and energy consumption reduction. The Fog computing model assists cloud computing in fast processing at the network's edge, which also exerts a vital role in cloud computing. Due to the fast computing in fog servers, different quality of service (QoS) approaches have been proposed in various sections of the fog system, and several quality factors have been considered in this regard. Despite the significance of QoS in Fog computing, no extensive study has focused on QoS and energy consumption methods in this area. Therefore, this article investigates previous research on the use and guarantee of Fog computing. This article reviews six general approaches that discuss the published articles between 2015 and late May 2023. The focal point of this paper is evaluating Fog computing and the energy consumption strategy. This article further shows the advantages, disadvantages, tools, types of evaluation, and quality factors according to the selected approaches. Based on the reviewed studies, some open issues and challenges in Fog computing energy consumption management are suggested for further study. © 2023 John Wiley & Sons Ltd.

Using experimental results related to the biosorption of Fe(III) by activated carbon derived from olive pit waste, we developed and evaluated four artificial neural network (ANN) models in this study, namely MLP-ANN, RBF-ANN, GR-ANN, and PSO-ANN, to predict the removal efficiency of Fe(III) during the adsorption process. The purpose of these models was to forecast the effect of the following five important operational variables: the initial concentration, time, stirring speed, temperature, and biosorbent dose. We conducted a thorough assessment of the performance of these models and compared their ability to predict the removal capacity. Several statistical metrics have been used to quantify the quality of the different models. The results calculated by the machine learning models were analyzed and compared with the experimental results. The obtained values of the coefficient of determination were 0.9997 for the PSO-ANN model, 0.991 for the GR-ANN model, 0.983 for the RBF-ANN model, and 0.837 for the MLP-ANN model concerning the removal efficiency. All the studied models are able to accurately predict the adsorbed quantity. ANOVA analysis was used to evaluate the effect of the parameters inherent to the PSO-ANN model. The PSO-ANN model proves to be a powerful tool for estimating the efficiency of Fe(III) ion removal. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature 2024. corrected publication 2024.

BPCoach: Exploring Hero Drafting in Professional MOBA Tournaments via Visual Analytics

Hero drafting for multiplayer online arena (MOBA) games is crucial because drafting directly affects the outcome of a match. Both sides take turns to "ban"/"pick" a hero from a roster of approximately 100 heroes to assemble their drafting. In professional tournaments, the process becomes more complex as teams are not allowed to pick heroes used in the previous rounds with the "best-of-N" rule. Additionally, human factors including the team's familiarity with drafting and play styles are overlooked by previous studies. Meanwhile, the huge impact of patch iteration on drafting strengths in the professional tournament is of concern. To this end, we propose a visual analytics system, BPCoach, to facilitate hero drafting planning by comparing various drafting through recommendations and predictions and distilling relevant human and in-game factors. Two case studies, expert feedback, and a user study suggest that BPCoach helps determine hero drafting in a rounded and efficient manner. © 2023 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

Reversible data hiding is widely utilized for secure communication and copyright protection. Recently, to improve embedding capacity and visual quality of stego-images, some Partial Reversible Data Hiding (PRDH) schemes are proposed. But these schemes are over the plaintext domain. To protect the privacy of the cover image, Reversible Data Hiding in Encrypted Images (RDHEI) techniques are preferred. In addition, the full separability of cover image reconstruction and data restoration is also an important characteristic that cannot be achieved by most RDHEI schemes. To solve the issues, a partial and a complete Reversible Data Hiding in Shared Images with Separate Cover Image Reconstruction and Secret Extraction (RDHSI-SRE) are proposed in this paper. In the proposed schemes, the secret data is divided by Secret Sharing (SS). Then, the marked shared images are generated based on the proposed modify-and-recalculate strategy. The receiver can extract embedded data and reconstruct the image separably using k-out-of-n marked shared images. In the embedding phase of partial RDHSI-SRE (PRDHSI-SRE), the pixel values are modified according to the proposed Minimizing-Square-Errors Strategy to achieve high visual quality, and the complete RDHSI-SRE (CRDHSI-SRE) embeds data by modifying random coefficients to achieve reversibility. The experimental results and theoretical analyses demonstrate that the proposed schemes have a high embedding performance. Most importantly, the proposed schemes are fault-tolerant and completely separable. © 2013 IEEE.

Space exploration has been revolutionized by deep learning (DL) and machine learning (ML) technologies, enabling advanced data analysis, spacecraft navigation, and mission planning. However, the increasing reliance on digital systems also introduces new cybersecurity vulnerabilities. This research presents a comprehensive literature review of how ML and DL can enhance mission effectiveness while mitigating these risks. By examining over 50 research articles, we identify significant advancements and challenges in space mission cybersecurity, with a particular focus on DL for threat detection, risk assessment, and system protection. Our findings highlight the potential of DL to address emerging cybersecurity threats and improve the overall security and efficiency of space missions. This work aims to provide a foundation for developing robust and secure AI-powered systems for future space exploration endeavors. Nowadays, secure and reliable management of logistics is highly needed. Logistics is the delivery of goods from producers to legitimate consumers in accurate amounts and good conditions. The use of low-capable sensor nodes in smart logistics makes it vulnerable to many security threats. Smart logistics necessitated the delivery of suitable information to the authorized person at the appropriate time and place, which is only feasible with a stable infrastructure. This paper presents an authentication scheme together with blockchain technology to provide a secure supply chain management system. The presented authentication mechanism is based on standard KERBOROS scheme which is a ticket-based scheme. The scheme is evaluated by BAN logic which shows that it is an effective scheme in terms of improved response time and encryption/decryption time along with key generation time. © 2023 IEEE.
