The variable-bit-rate traffic characteristic brings a large complication to the dynamic bandwidth allocation and renegotiation of network. To solve this problem, this paper proposes a dynamic prediction scheme of MPEG video *** first advance an initial reversible transformation to the original video GoP sizes and then design an algorithm based on the ARMA process modeling to fit the transformed smooth sequence. At last we take advantage of the multi-step forecast of the series to perform a dynamic prediction for original GoP sizes. An experimental study has shown the good effect of the scheme in this paper. With the help of our prediction scheme, the waste of bandwidth will be limited effectively and the network bandwidth allocation and renegotiation can be developed to be very dynamic and intelligent. © 2009 IEEE.

With widely application of Peer-to-Peer (P2P) file sharing technique, the P2P traffic occupies most of the current Internet bandwidth. Modeling the behaviors of P2P file sharing systems is important for designing and evaluating such systems. In this paper, we develop a novel model to character the dynamic behaviors of P2P sharing systems. States in microcosmic view are defined and used to describe the interaction among the peers in systems. Then, a model in general form for P2P sharing systems is proposed. According to common software policies in P2P systems, we embody the model. To verify the validity and reasonability of the proposed model, P2P simulations are conducted. © 2010 IEEE.

Propose an evolution model for Peer-to-Peer (P2P) file-sharing systems, which try to capture the dynamic properties of P2P application networks. The model consists of four events: node joining, node departure, connection establishing and connection breaking, which captures the most important events in constructing network topology. The evolution model results in a differential equation about degree distribution, which can be solved analytically. By analyzing the solutions, some interesting results can be got. © 2010 IEEE.

The replication and deployment of media file is one of the key issues in video-on-demand system, the replication algorithm and deployment strategy will directly affect the performance of storage balance and load balance in the system. In order to enhance the capacity of streaming media servers and handle the problem that migrating files will affect acceptance rate of user requests, in this paper we present a practical strategy to deploy and transfer files in real video-on-demand system. According to this strategy, we compute the migration probability when a file migration request comes, then we decide whether transfer files by the probability. Through analysis of experimental results and theoretical proof, the dual-threshold dynamic file migration algorithm described in this paper can improve acceptance rate of user requests and the capacity of streaming media servers. © 2008 IEEE.

With wider application of P2P-based Media Delivery network (P2P-based MDN), much work has been done to improve the system' performance and efficiency in the process of media contents sharing. In this paper, we first propose a specific partially observable Markov Decision Process (POMDP) model for admission control of P2P-based MDN. Based on this model, we provide the observation-based randomized policy to conduct admission control and optimize the policy by applying policy-gradient algorithm. Observation-based policy can promote the system's performance in real time aspect and policy optimizing can increase the accuracy of controller's judgments based on partial information. Admission strategy in the paper can save the cost in operating the system for media service providers. Bandwidth allocation policy is designed to reduce service delay and provide high-quality service. The comparison results of system's performances under different policies indicate that, partial service can utilize the system's resource in a better way.

Bandwidth smoothing can increase the utility of network bandwidth by reducing the burstiness of a VBR (variable bit rate) video stream. To guarantee the quality of service of video-on-command service in home network, data transmission rate should not exceed the maximum data handling capacity of embedded terminals. This paper designs a streaming media system in home network, and puts forward a smoothing algorithm based on greedy algorithm for transmitting VBR video streams subjected to maximum data transmitting rate. The presented algorithm can decrease startup delay of streaming and meet the demand of client buffering requirement under the constraint of maximum transmission rate. Experiment results demonstrate the effectiveness of the presented algorithm. © 2010 IEEE.

Resource management is a complicated problem in multiprocessor system. When tasks with real-time characteristic are scheduled on processor resource constraints such as CPU and memory have to be met, however, it is usually difficult for a system to ensure load balancing and resource constraints simultaneity. In order to handle this problem lots of algorithms have been brought forward. In this paper, a load balancing policy is proposed to manage and integrate processing resource of multiprocessor system which is used to send packets of packets flows on time. The policy dynamically predicts the wait time before a packet to be processed based on the load of the processor and the timestamp of the packet, and decides the migration of packet between processors to guarantee that the packets can be processed before deadline. This policy can not only increase the multiprocessor utilization but also enhance the capacity of the system against the jitter of load by packets migration between the processors as well. We use simulation experiment to show that the policy can reduce the possibility of packets delay and increase the concurrency of flows that the system can serve.1 © 2011 AICIT.

In distributed systems, the server placement problem in which a new server has to compete with existing servers for user requests is important in planning of constructing new business service sites. In addition to minimizing cost, competition-aware server placement also needs to maximize the benefit of building a new server. This paper proposes a Tabu Search approach to optimize the problem in general graphs. Results from the simulation experiments show that it do has a better performance than both of the GreedyAdd and GreedyRemove algorithms. © 2011 IEEE.

Collab.ration Filter is one of well-known effective methods for recommendation. The suggestions are based on the mass of user ratings for various items, which are used as explicit feedback. However, implicit feedback such as the time spent on website, how soon the user skipped the song, and the sequence of selected items have also proved to be useful in recommender systems. In this paper, we proposed a hybrid recommendation algorithm considering both explicit and implicit feedback to produce better recommended list. An iteration process is proposed for using implicit feedback in order to find effective feedback for recommendation. Time window is also used to limit the impact range of implicit feedback. Experimental results on MovieLens datasets show that the implicit feedback can effectively compensate for the shortcomings of explicit feedback and the proposed algorithm is more accurate than the traditional one. © 2014 by Binary Information Press

Internet protocol television (IPTV), being an emerging Internet application, plays an important and indispensable role in our daily life. In order to maximize user experience and on the same time to minimize service cost, we must take into pay attention to how to reduce the storage and transport costs. A lot of previous work has been done before to do this. There is a challenging problem in this: how to predict the popularities of videos as accurate as possible. To solve the problem, this paper presents a Neural network model for the popularity prediction of the programs in the IPTV system. And we use the actual historical logs to validate our method. The historical logs are divided to two parts, one is used to train the neural network by extract input/output vectors, and the other part is used to verify the model. The experimental results from our validation show the Neural network based method can gain better accuracy than the comparative method. © 2012 ACADEMY PUBLISHER.
