An interworking architecture between TINA-like model and Internet for mobility services

In this paper, we propose a scalable service networking architecture as a TINA-like environment for providing flexibly various mobility services. The proposed architecture provides an environment that enables the advent of service providers and rapidly introduces multimedia applications, considering networks scalability. For supporting customized mobility services, this architecture adopts a new service component, which we call Omnipresent Personal Environment Manager (OpeMgr). In order to support mobile users who move between heterogeneous networks, for instance, between the TINA-like environment and the Internet environment, we propose a structure of a gateway. In addition, the proposed architecture uses the fixed and mobile agent approaches for supporting the user's mobility, and we evaluated their performances with comparing those approaches.

This study examines the dual functionality of AlGaN/GaN HEMTs as both power transistors and UV photodetectors, motivated by manipulating the bias dependent photoresponse and to perform both functions using AlGaN/GaN HEMT configuration seamlessly. The fabricated HEMTs achieve good electrical performance, with a maximum drain current I-DS of 547 mA/mm and an ON-to-OFF current ratio (I-ON/I-OFF) of 1.2 x 10(7), with a threshold voltage of -3.9 V. The device demonstrated a peak responsivity of 758.4 A/W at 360 nm with an optical gain of 2617 under forward bias. When biased between -4.6 V < V-GS < V-th and V-DS = +3 V, UV illumination significantly increases the 2DEG channel conductivity, resulting in enhanced electron transport and high responsivity. However, as V-GS increases, dark current rises, limiting the gain improvement. Additionally, the proposed AlGaN HEMTs showed a UV sensing performance with a linear dynamic range (LDR) of 65.4 dB, indicating potential for UV detection applications. Furthermore, these devices can also operate in reverse conduction (third quadrant), achieving 220.7 A/W when V-DS < 0 V and V-GS + V-SD > V-th. Applying a higher drain-source voltage further boosts responsivity by strengthening the lateral electric field, but only if dark current remains low. Finally, the HEMTs detect optical pulses at 550 Hz with response times of 641 mu s and 776 mu s (tau(r)/tau(f)). These capabilities allow the device to function as both a power signal driver and an optical detector without structural modifications, making it a versatile option for multifunctional applications.

A number of optimization models for the establishment of virtual path connections (VPCs) with reserved capacity have been proposed in the literature. All of them, however, failed to reflect the trade-off between increased capacity costs and reduced control costs explicitly in their formulations, the present authors develop a mathematical formulation for an optimal strategy for the reservation of capacity on VPCs, considering the trade-off between increased capacity costs and reduced control costs. This paper deals with the Steiner tree packing problem. For a given undirected graph G = (V, E) with positive integer capacities and non-negative weights on its edges, and a list of node sets (nets), the problem is to find a connection of nets which satisfies the edge capacity limits and minimizes the total weights. We focus on the switchbox routing problem in knock-knee model and formulate this problem as an integer programming using Steiner tree variables. We develop a branch-and-price algorithm. The algorithm is applied on some standard test instances and we compare the performances with the results using cutting-plane approach. Computational results show that our algorithm is competitive to the cutting plane algorithm presented by Grotschel et al. and can be used to solve practically sized problems.

A novel fabrication method and structure of a planar lightwave circuit (PLC) platform for hybrid integration of an optical module by passive alignment technology is presented. Precise formation of V-grooves in the PLC platform can be easily obtained by the proposed process. The passive alignments of optical elements, including optical fiber, are achieved in one-mask. LD modules were implemented by the proposed method.

Cascaded Raman fibre laser for stable dual-wavelength operation

The authors have demonstrated a stable and tunable dual-wavelength Raman fibre laser, which can be used as a pump source for a hybrid type and gain controlled C- and L-band distributed Raman and lumped erbium-doped fibre amplifier. Intensity and wavelength tuning of the two lasing modes at 1480 nm and 1500 nm are achieved by tuning one and both of the fibre gratings used in the laser cavity, respectively.

Intelligent networks (INs) are well suited for implementing Universal Personal telecommunication (UPT) services. For efficient planning of IN accommodating UPT services, it is essential to analyze the effect of UPT user personal mobility. In this paper, an IN architecture with a fixed local anchor (FLA) is proposed for supporting UPT services. The performance of the proposed IN architecture is compared with an IN architecture based on IS-41 with consideration of UPT user personal mobility in terms of call delivery cost and location update cost. The performance of the proposed IN depends on the characteristics of UPT user mobility and incall deregistration. The proposed IN yields better performance than an IN based on IS-41 as UPT user mobility decreases and the probability of explicit incall deregistration increases. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. Energy transfer from Tm³⁺:³F₄ to Dy³⁺:⁶H_11/2 in oxyfluoride tellurite glasses

Thermal analysis and optical properties indicate that Tm3+ and Dy3+ co-doped oxyfluoride tellurite glasses can be excellent candidates for fiber amplifiers at 1.47 mu m region. Substitution of GeO2 and In2O3 in tellurite glasses increased the glass stability without decreasing the lifetime of the upper Tm3+:H-3(4) level, and the fluoride substitution increased lifetime of excited energy levels of Tm3+ ion. Dy3+ co-doping in the Tm3+-doped oxyfluo:appride tellurite glasses enhanced the depopulation of the Tm3+:F-3(4) level through an energy transfer Tm3+:F-3(4) --> Dy3+:(6)(H)over dot(11/2). We report the measurements of crystallization, glass transition temperatures, and optical properties of Tm3+, Dy3+ co-doped oxyfluoride tellurite glasses. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V.
