In this paper, we present a video streaming scheme in peer-to-peer network, in which frame type aware scheduler adaptively adjusts the stream rate based on the estimated network bandwidth from the supplying peer nodes. The proposed frame type aware scheduler allocates the request quantity to each partner based on its variable network bandwidth, and decreases uselessly received video frames which not only consumes the available bandwidth but also no contribution for stream quality. We evaluated the adaptation scheme through extensive network simulations, and the result demonstrates that AVS significantly decreases uselessly received video frames without degrading streaming quality. Especially, when the bandwidth supply is insufficient, the effectiveness of proposed scheme significantly increases.

In multi-code CDMA, there is no self-interference among the subcodes of a single user. By taking advantage of this property, the authors propose a new scheduling scheme to improve throughput, and derive the system throughputs of two cases with the proposed scheme applied and not applied. Analysis results show that the proposed scheme considerably improves the system throughput.

In general, the necessary requirements for implementing a network management system are considered as network management protocols, object-oriented information modeling, management functions/services, and a graphical user interface (GUI) in a distributed environment. JavaTM is designed to meet the challenges of application development in the context of heterogeneous, network-wide distributed environments and provides the capabilities of simplicity, object-oriented concept, reliability, portability, multi-threading, and viewer capability. Thus, it is proper to make the development environment using Java for network management system. Especially, the "translation of GDMO/ASN.1 to Java objects" mechanism is designed and implemented for the information model of the TMN. It is used as a core facility to produce the Java objects which represent managed objects. © 1998 IEEE.

An ATM buffer management scheme with logically separated buffers is proposed to guarantee various Quality of Services such as CBR, rt-VBR, nrt-VBR, ABR, and UBR and to make efficient use of system resources in ATM switching systems. By assigning proper priorities based on the count indicator (CI) and the time indicator (TI);respectively, the scheme can afford ABR services without cell loss and real-time services with controllable delay.

Large-scale mobile phenomena monitoring with energy-efficiency in wireless sensor networks

In intelligent sensing systems with wireless sensor nodes, energy efficiency is one of the most important research issues. In this paper, we focus on energy efficiency for monitoring a large-scale object such as gas and chemical material diffusion and spread of radioactive contamination and wild fire. For monitoring of a large-scale object, a great number of sensor nodes might be participated in object detection and tracking. Thus, general functions of such huge quantities of sensor nodes like sensing and message exchanging could be sources of energy exhaustion and shorten network lifetime. Therefore, we firstly adopt the sleep/wakeup state switching to restrict active sensor nodes for object tracking. That is, since an object dynamically alter its own shape by wind or geographical condition, we support that only the sensor nodes around the current boundary of the changeable object actively function while the others are on the sleep mode. In addition, we also propose that active nodes are steadily held as a small set of sensor nodes collaborated for detecting and tracking of the current boundary. A variety of computational simulations proves that our proposal is able to provide high energy efficiency as well as to trace accurate boundary shapes. (C) 2015 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

We present a temperature-insensitive tunable silicon-photonic Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI) filter fabricated by deep ultraviolet lithography. The wavelength shift of the MZI filter depending on temperature is reduced down to -4 pm/degrees C at similar to 1480 nm using a design with waveguide narrowing and widening, and the MZI filter is tunable with a thermal heater at an efficiency of 24 mW/free spectral range (FSR). The FSR of the MZI is about 5.8 nm, which corresponds to a channel spacing of 2.9 nm for a two-channel MZI. We discuss the fabrication tolerance of the fabricated MZI according to experimental and simulation results and show design parameters for a fabrication-tolerant temperature-insensitive MZI with a 20-nm channel spacing for coarse wavelength-division multiplexing application.

The widespread deployment of smart meters in the advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) raises privacy concerns. Analyzing the data collected from smart meters can expose habits and can be potentially used to predict consumers' behaviors. In this paper, we analyze the confidentiality of information in the AMI consisting of nodes with interdependent correlated security assets. On each node, the defender can choose one of several security modes available. We try to answer the following questions: 1) What is the expected behavior of a rational attacker?;2) What is the optimal strategy of the defender?;and 3) Can we configure the security modes on each node to discourage the attacker from launching any attacks? In this paper, we formulate the problem as a noncooperative game and analyze the behavior of the attacker and the defender at the Nash equilibrium. The attacker chooses his targets in order to collect the maximum amount of data on consumers, and the defender chooses the encryption level of outbound data on each device in the AMI. Using our model, we derive the minimum defense resources required and the optimal strategy of the defender. Finally, we show how our framework can be applied in a real-world scenario via a case study.

To enhance the wireless spectrum efficiency, a practical MAC protocol which supports discontinuous channel bonding is proposed. The protocol modifies the traditional frame structure and the access mode of MAC to bear the new idea. It adopts the traditional channel bonding scheme in case of that there are continuous narrow channels;while it adopts discontinuous channel bonding scheme in case of that narrow channels are discontinuous, thus to achieve a parallel transmission. Simulation results indicate that the MAC protocol focused can get obvious advantages on effective bandwidth compared with the continuous channel bonding MAC.

Wireless body area network (WBAN) is one of the most promising wireless sensor technologies, significantly enhancing the quality of service of healthcare. But the potential users' worries about privacy leakage impede its wider application. To alleviate such worries, we present a remote anonymous authentication protocol to enable client terminals/application to securely access WBAN services. In particular, our protocol is rooted in a novel certificateless cryptosystem, which has negligible computational cost and a number of security properties that are especially desirable in WBANs. Our protocol ensures that even the application providers (APs) cannot recover the user's real identity given all the session information. Also, the network manager (NM), who plays the role of private key generator (PKG), can be prevented from impersonating any legitimate users. We theoretically validate that our protocol can achieve a better tradeoff than most of existing schemes in terms of essential security properties and computational overhead.
