In this paper, we propose a two-stage PCA algorithm to deal with the problem of target appearance changes in object tracking. Our method is based on particle filter framework and aims at building up a robust appearance model for the target. In the first-stage, PCA is applied on several templates collected before tracking to construct a low dimensional subspace for the targets. Correspondingly, in the later tracking, all particles will be projected into this subspace to calculate the weight of particles, as well as the location of the target by weighted sum of particles. In the second-stage, PCA is adopted to decompose the reconstruction error into orthogonal basis to find the basis with biggest variance which can best present the appearance changes. Correspondingly, we uses this basis to update the old subspace. Besides, a threshold is set to decide when to update which greatly reduce the numbers of update. The two stages work together to establish a robust appearance model making our tracking algorithm more robust. Experimental results on public video sequence demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed algorithm.

An effective algorithm for global abnormal detection from surveillance video is proposed in this paper. The algorithm is based on sparse representation. To deal with the illumination change in video scenes, specific feature extract methods are designed for corresponding illumination conditions. In the case of non-uniform illumination, features are extracted directly on the original image;in the case of uniform illumination, features are extracted on the binary image obtained by threshold segmentation on the difference image, where the thresholds are computed by the Otsu's method. The features extracted on normal video are used to learn an over-complete dictionary. Then, the sparse reconstruction cost over the dictionary is used to detect abnormal events. Experiments on the open global abnormal dataset and the comparison to the state-of-the-art methods validate effectiveness and quickness of our algorithm.

We propose a multiple pulses phase-matching quantum key distribution protocol (MPPM-QKD) to exceed the linear key rate bound and to achieve higher error tolerance. In our protocol, Alice and Bob generate at first their own train pulses (each train should contain L pulses) as well as random bit sequences, and also encode each pulse of their trains with a randomized phase and a modulation phase. As the next step, both encoded trains are simultaneously sent to Charlie, who performs an interference detection and may be also an eavesdropper. After a successful detection is announced by Charlie, Alice and Bob open the randomized phase of each pulse and keep only communications when the summation of the difference randomized phases at two success detection's time-stamps for Alice and Bob are equal to 0 or π. Thereafter, Alice and Bob compute the sifted key with the time-stamps. The above procedure is repeated until both Alice and Bob achieve sufficiently long sifted keys. We can also show that the secret key rate of the proposed QKD protocol can beat the rate-loss limit of so far known QKD protocols when the transmission distance is greater than 250 km. Moreover, the proposed protocol has a higher error tolerance, approximately 24%, when the transmission distance is 50 km and L = 128. The secret key rate and the transmission distance of our protocol are superior to that of the round-robin differential-phase-shift quantum key distribution protocol [6], and also of the measurement-device-independent quantum key distribution protocol [4], and the secret key rate performance is better in both cases than that of phase-matching quantum key distribution when bit train length is greater than 32. This paper presents a fast quality scalable video coding method based on compressed sensing(CS). The proposed method obtained the coding scheme of the enhancement MJU by using the interlayer and spatial correlation and kept the base layer's coding scheme unchanged. And the part in the enhancement layer which needed to be fine quantified was combined with the compressed sensing theory selectively which based on the sparsity of the signal and the complexity of the reconstruction. In order to satisfy the coding syntax structure of the reference software, the measurement value got by compressed sensing was complemented by 0 s and the flag bit was set to distinguish the special sub-blocks coded by CS. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm can effectively improve the efficiency of scalable video coding and reduce the computational complexity.

In this study, a viable platform for atom traps using a dielectric-loaded surface-plasmon-polariton waveguide is proposed. A trap depth of 0.239 mK can be achieved above a SiO2 waveguide on an Au-SiO2 substrate, with mode powers of 0.5mW for the blue-detuned TM0 mode, 0.1mW for the TM1 mode, and 0.55mW for the red-detuned TM0 mode. The trap center is about 180 nm above the waveguide surface, and the corresponding cooperativity parameter for coupling the Rb87 atom with a guided photon is about 0.137. By controlling the phase difference between counterpropagating red-detuned TM0 modes, atoms can be delivered along the waveguide by an optical conveyor belt. Compared to the dielectric waveguide without the enhancement of surface plasmon polaritons, our scheme has the advantage of forming a trap depth with low-power requirements and stronger atom-photon interactions, which makes it highly suitable for applications in photonic-atomic chips.

With the development of smart of grid, the traditional wireless communication cannot meet the new service requirement. In this paper, we propose a blind spots coverage based on D2D communication scheme to solve the problems of blind spots coverage and service access imbalance for power LTE private network. Meanwhile, we analyze the application of D2D communication technology based on LTE in power grid. In addition, we introduce the type of power LTE private network, discuss the mode of D2D communication in different scenarios between intra-frequency network and differ-frequency network, and explore the typical application scenarios of D2D technology in power grid. We also find that there still remains several open issues in application of D2D technology for the electric power industry.

Heterogeneous wireless sensor network (HWSN) consists of sensor nodes with different ability, such as computing power and sensing range. Compared with homogeneous wireless sensor network, the design of protocols for such networks has to be more complex due to the energy constraint in order to prolong the lifetime of the network. As energy consumption mostly comes from the radio transmissions, bandwidth utilization affects the network lifetime greatly. In this paper, a novel lossless data aggregation scheme (Better-to-Fit) is presented for the clustering-based HWSN to improve the bandwidth utilization without introducing extra computation. The average performance is evaluated theoretically and validated by simulations. It has been found that the proposed aggregation technique can minimize the aggregation time under energy constraint and achieve promising efficiency in terms of bandwidth utilization.

In this paper, we propose to design a new pitch state dependent dictionary to perform single-channel speech separation. The dictionary is designed in two stages, which are sub-dictionary learning and sub-dictionary concatenation. In sub-dictionary learning, pitch state information is taken into account to learn a set of discriminative sub-dictionaries for each speaker in time-domain. To be specific, each sub-dictionary is generated as a matrix composed of the speaker's training frames of similar pitch states as columns. Moreover, we utilize a frequent pattern mining method to further reduce the sub-dictionary size. In sub-dictionary concatenation, we propose to select an appropriate weight pair to match the learned sub-dictionaries to generate a dictionary for separation. Experimental results show that the proposed method achieves better overall performance than two dictionary-based methods and a source-filter-based method also using pitch information.

Visualization is critical in power systems engineering since the gigantic amount of data generated by power systems is difficult,and at times impossible,to be analyzed numerically. Therefore,the need for powerful visualization software has been increasingly acute due to the growth in size of power system models. To improve PPV’s performance in order to accompany larger systems,this paper focuses on the development of PPV (Perfect Power Visualization),a 2-D power system visualization software program that processes and conver ts numerical data to graphic symbols based on their types,positions and states. The goal of PPV is to let operators visualize and interact with large-scale power systems in a consumer lever personal computer in real time. Also,it was optimized again with smarter data management systems,refinement of overall structure,and a newer platform that enables GPU acceleration,all of which further increased the performance of PPV by a factor of ten times that of its initial capabilities.
