Outlier-robust zonotope set-membership filter for discrete-time nonlinear system

Transient sensor malfunction, improper replacement measures, and large non-Gaussian noise can cause data outliers in real-world scenarios. In this article, an outlier-robust zonotope set-membership filter is proposed for uncertain nonlinear systems susceptible to outliers. In order to linearize nonlinear systems, a linearization method based on Stirling's interpolation formula is proposed. Then, an outlier detector utilizing the linearization error bounds, the prediction domain, and the output feasible domain is constructed. Based on the linearized system, a tight strip construction method is given to reduce the conservatism of the estimated enclosure. Moreover, a prediction-correction-backward reconstruction filter structure is designed to improve estimation accuracy and reduce conservatism. The proposed structure fuses historical data to attenuate the impact of uncertainty on the system. The robustness, guarantee, and convergence of the proposed filter are investigated. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed approach is evaluated by two simulation examples.

Disturbance estimation and compensation for discrete-time large-scale IT-2 T-S fuzzy descriptor systems

This paper studies disturbance estimation and compensation for discrete-time large-scale nonlinear descriptor systems with unknown measurement noises. Interval type-2 (IT-2) Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy model is used to represent nonlinear dynamics, where fuzzy representation is assumed to be appearing not only in both the state and input matrices but also in the matrix of derivative state. First, by using a novel model transformation, the fuzzy representation in the derivative matrix is formulated into the linear one. Then, an augmented fuzzy observer is introduced to implement a synchronous estimation for the system state and the unknown measurement noise, which guarantees that reachable sets of the closed-loop system are bounded by a given ellipsoid. Moreover, a compensation-based controller is employed to remove or relieve the uncertainties induced by measurement noises. Finally, the validity of the obtained theories is testified by a numerical example.

Lightweight Source-Free Transfer for Privacy-Preserving Motor imagery Classification

Transfer learning utilizes data or knowledge in one problem to help solve a related problem. It is particularly useful in electroencephalogram (EEG)-based motor imagery (MI) classification, to handle high intrasubject and/or cross-subject variations. This article considers offline unsupervised cross-subject MI classification, i.e., we have labeled EEG trials from several source subjects, but only unlabeled EEG trials from the target subject. Existing transfer learning approaches usually make use of the source-domain data directly in target model learning. To protect the privacy of the source subjects, we propose lightweight source-free transfer (LSFT), which first generates source models locally and encapsulates them as model application programming interfaces (APIs), then constructs a virtual intermediate domain to transfer the knowledge in the source domains to the target domain, and finally performs feature adaptation learning. Compared with the existing deep transfer learning approaches, LSFT does not need to transfer from massive source data or models, is computationally efficient, and has a small number of parameters. Experiments on four benchmark MI data sets demonstrated that LSFT outperformed 13 different approaches, including several state-of-the-art transfer learning approaches that make use of the source-domain samples or model parameters directly.

Generalized Accurate Harmonic Calculation Method Based on Discretized Double Fourier Series to Solve Double-Pulse Phenomenon

Harmonic issues have always been paid attention to in electrical systems, and accurate calculation of the amplitude and phase of each harmonic has become one of the research focuses of scholars. This article develops a generalized harmonic closed-form analytical solution for a single-phase voltage source inverter under digital sinusoidal pulsewidth modulation and dead-time effects. This article is the first to point out the double-pulse phenomenon that can occur when using a double Fourier series to solve the harmonic spectrum due to the discontinuity of the dead-time effects and half-cycle integrals. Analysis and data comparison show that this phenomenon can affect the accuracy of harmonic calculations. A discretized double Fourier series method is proposed to solve this phenomenon. Moreover, the problems of missing pulse caused by the modulation under a specific current phase and current zero-crossing are also solved, improving the harmonic calculation's accuracy and generality. Simulation analysis and the results of inverse fast Fourier transform proved the correctness of the optimization method, and the experimental results are obtained on the DSP and SIC platforms, which are in good agreement with the expression calculation results.

Backstepping-Based Composite Prescribed-Time control for Two-Time-Scale Systems

This paper explores the design of a composite prescribed-time controller for two-time-scale systems (TTSSs). First, due to numerical issues caused by the small perturbation parameter, standard control design techniques for prescribed-time stabilization of regular linear systems are typically unsuitable for TTSSs. To address this, we use time-scale separation to decouple the system into slow and fast subsystems. To avoid strict requirements on the input matrix, we apply a state transformation to convert the state equations of the slow and fast subsystems into block forms. Next, to prevent input saturation and achieve a directly and arbitrarily adjustable upper bound on the convergence time, we use time-varying scaling functions to design prescribed-time controllers for both subsystems. The composite prescribed-time controller ensures the prescribed-time convergence of the TTSS. Finally, two comparative examples and one RC ladder circuit system example are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness and advantages of the proposed approach.

Adaptive Tracking control of Switched Stochastic Non-Linear Systems With Full State Constraints: A MDADT Switching Method

This article proposes an adaptive tracking control scheme for a class of switched stochastic non-linear systems subject to full state constraints (FSCs). A unified framework is established by integrating the adaptive backstepping technique with barrier Lyapunov functions (BLFs) to address the time-varying full state constraints (TFSCs). Accordingly, utilizing the theorem of stochastic non-linear systems, a new adaptive state feedback control scheme is developed for a class of switching signals with the mode-dependent average dwell time (MDADT) property. The proposed adaptive controller is mode-dependent while the adaptive laws are mode-independent so as to facilitate an easy deployment of the controller. It is rigorously proven that all signals in the closed-loop system are bounded in probability, the tracking error converges to a bounded compact set, and the TFSCs are not violated. Finally, simulation examples are conducted to validate the effectiveness of the controller.

Dynamic Resilient Consensus of Second-Order Multiagent Networks With a Time-Varying Malicious Agent Set

We address the problem of resilient consensus in second-order multiagent networks (MANs) with a time-varying set of malicious agents. Existing research typically assumes a static set of malicious agents. However, in real-world scenarios, network attacks and recoveries may lead to dynamic changes in the roles of agents. To overcome this challenge, a novel adaptive weighted subsequence reduction (AWSR) is proposed for resilient consensus in MANs with a dynamic malicious agent set. Based on the AWSR approach, a resilient consensus algorithm is designed for second-order MANs. Graph-theoretic conditions in the context of network robustness are derived to ensure resilient consensus in the considered MAN. We also extend the algorithm and analysis to MANs with communication delays. Finally, simulation experiments are conducted to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithms.

Model-Independent Robust Consensus of Multiple Euler-Lagrange Systems

The robustness of multiple Euler-Lagrange systems (MELSs) measures the capability of maintaining coordination control performance when experiencing disturbance or faults. This article investigates a leader-follower robust consensus problem of MELSs, which experience time-varying input disturbance and uncertain communication link faults (CLFs). First of all, based on an adaptive control theory, we design fully distributed observers for estimating the dynamic and state of leader, which have robustness to CLFs. Then, an observer-based proportional-integral (PI) control protocol is designed to achieve consensus of MELSs with robustness to time-varying input disturbance. Different from the existing related results, this robust observer-based PI controller is fully distributed and model independent, which is irrelevant to any prior information (i.e., the structures and features) of agent dynamic or global network information. At last, the validity of the proposed theoretical results is confirmed by a simulation example.

A general method for constructing high-dimensional chaotic maps with topological mixing on the global phase space

High-dimensional chaotic maps offer a larger parameter space, increased complexity, and enhanced resilience against dynamical degradation compared to their one-dimensional counterparts. Therefore, they are gradually replacing one-dimensional chaotic maps in various applications. However, many methods for generating highdimensional chaotic maps lack mathematical proofs, which cannot theoretically ensure their chaotic nature. Even high-dimensional chaotic maps with theoretical support often lack global transitivity and exhibit local chaos. Applying such chaotic maps in chaos-based stream ciphers or random number generators results in poor randomness of generated chaotic sequences, reduced internal state space, and numerous weak keys, which is not ideal. This paper proposes a systematic method for constructing high-dimensional chaotic maps (called dispersal maps). The paper proves that the maps constructed are topologically mixing across the entire space and are hyper-chaotic on an invariant subset of full measure. These properties make them satisfy almost all definitions of chaos, and their chaotic dynamical behavior is global: exhibiting transitivity across the entire phase space rather than a local subregion, a dense scrambled subset rather than a tiny one, and being hyper-chaotic almost everywhere rather than on a local attractor. Therefore, dispersal maps can improve the existing problems of locally chaotic maps in application. The experiments also indicate that dispersal maps exhibit ergodicity on the phase space, with highly uniform trajectory distributions and sensitivity to initial perturbations. The findings provide researchers with ideal chaotic maps and a feasible method for constructing high-dimensional chaotic maps with global chaos.

Cascading failures in interdependent directed networks under localized attacks

Many real-world systems interact with one another through dependency links, which reduces the system robustness. Most previous studies on the robustness of interdependent networks focus on undirected networks, and the related studies on directed networks are limited to random or targeted attacks. However, some failure scenarios cannot be described by these two kinds of attacks, such as earthquakes, floods, and epidemics, where systems are attacked in a local range. In this work, we develop a theoretical framework for analyzing the robustness of interdependent directed networks under localized attacks. We find that for degree homogeneous networks, network robustness under localized attacks is similar to that under random attacks. There are four phase transitions in the phase diagram of the network, and a four-phase transition point and a two-phase transition point are found. For degree heterogeneous networks, localized attacks are more likely to lead to collapse than random attacks. As the coupling strength between networks increases, the interdependent networks first show a second order phase transition, and then a hybrid phase transition, and a first order phase transition at last. Furthermore, as the degree heterogeneity increases, the robustness of networks first increases and then decreases, showing a local robustness maximum. The findings could help understand network robustness and enable better design of robust interdependent systems.
