An environmentally friendly reusable triboelectric nanogenerator based on instant noodle powder

Recently, paper-based triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) have been attracting increasing attention. This interest is driven by desirable features such as affordability, environmental efficiency, and sustainable energy harvesting. This study investigated instant noodles powder as a novel and innovative triboelectric material for constructing a TENG (INPP-TENG). Triboelectric pairs were developed using instant noodles powder and PTFE tape, and paper served as the material of the supportive structure. The open circuit voltage (Voc) was 576 V, and the output power density was 326.7 mu W/cm(2). The proposed TENG can be used to assess the relative humidity (RH) of the environment. The renewable utilization and quality of the proposed TENG were also investigated. A device with the dimensions of 4 cm x 6 cm generated an electrical output that could directly power 185 blue high-power LEDs. Moreover, the structure of an innovative Miura-folding-paper-based TENG is presented. In addition to harvesting mechanical energy from human activities, the proposed design also detects different touch states. This paper proposes a portable, light-weight, affordable, and multifunctional device for humidity detection and energy harvesting. (C) 2021 Published by Elsevier Ltd.

Pulse is a commonly observed physiological phenomenon that provides crucial information of the cardiovascular system and other physiological processes (1). Pulse measurement provides a physiological reference for blood pressure, blood flow, and other physiological tests. Additionally, the pulse wave itself serves as a valuable indicator of diagnostic information. (2). Indian Ayurvedic and Chinese traditional medicines depend on wrist pulse wave signal parameters for diagnosis of human health and potential diseases. Pulse detection is a simple, quick, and easy-to-use physiological health indicator, which is critic in many medical applications(3).However, traditional pulse detection methods are predominantly reliant on subjective perception and touch by healthcare providers, leading to inaccuracies in diagnostic outcomes. Pulse and other human characteristics are subject to change over time and with varying environmental factors. As a result, individual measurements might result in additional measurement errors(4).Modern pulse meters and pulse oximeters still have limitations. As an example, pulse measuring devices necessitate a consistent electric power source or battery (5), imposing substantial limitations on their applicability in specific environments or use cases. This ultimately hampers their mobility and accessibility. Furthermore, the high cost of high-end pulse measuring devices is not economically viable for specific medical institutions or patient populations(5).As technology continues to evolve, more precise and objective pulse detection methods have emerged. In this paper, the asymptotic stability of state-dependent impulsive systems is addressed by virtue of looped-functional approach. Firstly, based on B-equivalence method, a fixed-time impulsive comparison system is derived, which is B-equivalent with the original state-dependent impulsive system. Then the asymptotic stability criteria of state-dependent impulsive system are obtained by employing a new twosided looped functional to analyze the comparison system with fixed-time impulses. The theoretical results are applied to Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy impulsive control. The effectiveness of the proposed results is verified by two numerical examples.(c) 2021 Elsevier Ltd. Open-set adversarial domain match for electronic nose drift compensation and unknown gas recognition

In practical applications, electronic noses (EN) must tackle not only sensor drift but also resist interference from unknown gases. In prolonged open environments, electronic noses often encounter unknown gases that cannot be predicted in advance. Current gas detection methods typically rely on prior knowledge of target analytes but struggle to comprehensively address sensor drift and interference from unknown gases. Such as indoor air quality monitoring, long-term stability is crucial, and not all relevant analytes can be predetermined. However, the recent research cannot solve both the sensor drift and unknown gas intrusion problem simultaneously well. In this work, we unify above problems in to the open-set risk boundary. We propose an open-set adversarial domain match (OSADM) model and introduce the considers of open-set domain adaptation (OSDA). OSDA trains a target classifier through matching the domain distribution to recognize the known and unknown gases. First, a binary adversarial loss divides the class boundary. Secondly, adversarial domain adaptation unifies the distribution of different domains. Compared with the metric methods, it avoids complex distribution computation and parameter adjustment to reduce negative transfer. Extensive experimental results on two benchmark datasets, Gas Sensor Array Drift and Twin gas sensor arrays Dataset show that OSADM outperformance of the existing open-set models.

Advancements in electronics designed to sense physiological states have shown great promise for personal care applications. However, despite progress in flexible device development, poor adhesion and insufficient sensitivity are still main limitations. Herein, we present a high-performance and flexible piezoelectric sensor fabricated using a nickel-plated short carbon fiber (Ni@CF)/polyacrylonitrile (PAN) composite film. The Ni@CF was aligned within the PAN matrix through a magnetic field-assisted fabrication method. The effects of Ni@CF proportions and orientation degrees on the electrical properties of the Ni@CF/PAN composite film were systematically studied. The output performance of random Ni@CF/PAN flexible piezoelectric sensor first increases and then decreases as the Ni@CF proportion increases, achieving a peak output voltage of 3.99 V and a peak output current of 2.01 mu A when the doping proportion of Ni@CF was 4.0 wt%. The output performance of Ni@CF/PAN flexible piezoelectric sensor is linearly correlated with Ni@CF orientation degree. The output voltage and current of the flexible piezoelectric sensor based on oriented Ni@CF/PAN film are 4.94 V and 2.31 mu A, representing enhancements 27% and 11%, respectively, compared to random Ni@CF/PAN film sensor. The sensitivity of oriented Ni@CF/PAN film sensor is 0.87 V/N, making a 30% improvement than random Ni@CF/PAN film sensor. The response and recovery times of the oriented Ni@CF/PAN sensor are 29 ms and 23 ms, respectively. Furthermore, the durability of the Ni@CF/PAN flexible piezoelectric sensor was measured through a pressing-releasing test of over 10,000 cycles. The feasibility of self-powering was verified by using the Ni@CF/PAN flexible piezoelectric sensor to charge a capacitor, which was then discharged to light up a commercial red LED. The application scenarios of magnetic angular position sensors are extensive, spanning diverse fields, such as navigation, medical devices, robotics, automotive industries, and aerospace. However, the fabrication of 3-D angular sensors presents significant challenges, as it necessitates the integration of sensors with varying orientations and precise orientation correction. In this work, we propose a novel 3-D angular position sensor based on the current-induced spin-orbit torque (SOT) effect, which features a simple and compact heavy metal (HM)/ferromagnetic (FM) heterostructure configuration. Spatial angular detection is accomplished by determining two projection angles, which represent the projection of a magnetic field onto three orthogonal planes within a spatial coordinate system. Compared to both commercially available and recently proposed angular position sensors, our design distinguishes itself by enabling 3-D magnetic field sensing with a single device, while maintaining a straightforward and scalable manufacturing process. Experimental results demonstrate that the angular error of the proposed sensor remains below 1 degrees under magnetic fields of less than 15 Oe.

Generalized Correntropy Sparse Gauss-Hermite Quadrature Filter for Epidemic Tracking on Complex Networks

The dynamic estimation of epidemic spreading on networks is essential for controlling morbidity. nonlinear Kalman filters, which are capable of estimating the hidden state of a nonlinear system, can be utilized for dynamic state estimation of epidemic spreading. Traditional nonlinear Kalman filters perform optimization using the minimum mean square error (MMSE) criterion. Since observable measurements are generally corrupted by non-Gaussian noise, maximum correntropy criterion (MCC)-based nonlinear Kalman filters have been used for improving robustness against non-Gaussian noise. In comparison with the MCC, generalized correntropy is more robust and flexible in the presence of non-Gaussian noise. In this article, epidemic spreading is described by a compartmental model, i.e., susceptible-infected-recovered-susceptible model. Based on the compartmental model, the generalized correntropy-based sparse Gauss-Hermite quadrature filter (GCSGHQF) is proposed for epidemic tracking on homogeneous networks. The GCSGHQF approximates the Gaussian-weighted integrals by utilizing the sparse Gauss-Hermite quadrature rule. In addition, the generalized correntropy is applied to enhancing robustness in the presence of non-Gaussian noise. Simulation results show that the GCSGHQF exhibits a higher filtering accuracy and improves robustness compared to traditional nonlinear Kalman filters.

Tunable perfect absorber and multifunctional logic device based on graphene metamaterial

Both tunable perfect absorber and multifunctional logic device can be accomplished by a novel graphene metamaterial in this paper. The metamaterial utilizes gold as a substrate, covering with a graphene flake and a graphene double-strip-array on dielectric layers. First, the perfect absorption above 99.99% in the terahertz range is achieved depends on the coupling between the two graphene layers. In addition, the tunability is based on the correlation between the conductivity and the Fermi level of graphene. As the Fermi level changes, the absorption peak of the absorber will shift, thus the tunable perfect absorber is accomplished. On this basis, the input Boolean values of the logic function are defined by the Fermi levels of graphene. The output Booleans are distinguished by monitoring the reflections and comparing them with the thresholds. Finally, the multifunctional logic device have been successfully implemented in the terahertz domain. At different frequencies, the logic gates of OR, XNOR and NAND can be realized concurrently. And the NOT logic gate can be obtained synchronously at multiple frequencies. Furthermore, the operational frequencies of the aforementioned four logic functions can be tuned by varying the other Fermi level of graphene. The maximum extinction ratios of OR, XNOR, NAND, and NOT are 13.02 dB, 26.3 dB, 12.06 dB, and 26.3 dB, respectively. This multifunctional metamaterial has potential applications in terahertz optical communication due to its straightforward structure and multiple functions.

As widely recognized 6G promising techniques, intelligent reflecting surface (IRS) and unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) have recently attracted much research attention in both academia and industries. In this paper, we propose the schemes for IRS/UAV-based mobile-edge-computing (MEC) and traffic-offloading over the radio-frequency (RF)-powered 6G mobile wireless networks, which consists of an UAV serving as an MEC-server to collect/receive data from multiple ground users (GUs) and several sets of IRSs to significantly enhance the simultaneous wireless data and energy transmissions. To overcome the difficulties of on-board energy limitation significantly affecting UAV's sustainability and performances, we propose the schemes to minimize UAV's total flying-time while enabling all GUs' data to be collected/received. We formulate a processing-time minimization problem which jointly optimize IRSs' phase shifts, UAV's control in trajectory, flying-time, and resource-allocation, and scheduling of GUs. Since our joint-optimization problem is non-convex, using the alternating optimization (AO) technique, we decompose this non-convex optimization problem into three sub-problems which thus can be iteratively solved. Finally, we validate and evaluate our proposed schemes through the conducted numerical analyses, showing that the total UAV flying-time can be significantly saved by around 20% under our proposed IRS/UAV-based schemes simultaneously supporting both wireless data and energy transmissions.

SecEDMO: Enabling Efficient Data Mining with Strong Privacy Protection in Cloud Computing

Frequent itemsets mining and association rules mining are among the top used algorithms in the area of data mining. Secure outsourcing of data mining tasks to the third-party cloud is an effective option for data owners. However, due to the untrust cloud and the distrust between data owners, the traditional algorithms which only work over plaintext should be re-considered to take security and privacy concerns into account. For example, each data owner may not be willing to disclose their own private data to others during the cooperative data mining process. The previous solutions are either not sufficiently secure or not efficient. Therefore, we propose a Secure and Efficient Data Mining Outsourcing (SecEDMO) scheme for secure outsourcing of frequent itemsets mining and association rules mining over the joint database (i.e., database aggregated from multiple data owners) in the paradigm of cloud computing. Based on our customized lightweight symmetric homomorphic encryption algorithm and a secure comparison algorithm, SecEDMO can ensure strong privacy protection and low data mining latency simultaneously. Moreover, the well-designed virtual transaction insertion algorithm can hide the information of the original database while still preserving the cloud's ability to perform data mining over the obfuscated data. By evaluation of a numerical experiment and theoretical comparisons, the correctness, security, and efficiency of SecEDMO are confirmed.
