Dynamic behaviors of the FitzHugh-Nagumo neuron model with state-dependent impulsive effects

In present work, in order to reproduce spiking and bursting behavior of real neurons, a new hybrid biological neuron model is established and analyzed by combining the FitzHugh-Nagumo (FHN) neuron model, the threshold for spike initiation and the state-dependent impulsive effects (impulse resetting process). Firstly, we construct Poincare mappings under different conditions by means of geometric analysis, and then obtain some sufficient criteria for the existence and stability of order-1 or order-2 periodic solution to the impulsive neuron model by finding the fixed point of Poincare mapping and some geometric analysis techniques. Numerical simulations are given to illustrate and verify our theoretical results. The bifurcation diagrams are presented to describe the phenomena of period-doubling route to chaos, which implies that the dynamic behavior of the neuron model become more complex due to impulsive effects. Furthermore, the correctness and effectiveness of the proposed FitzHugh-Nagumo neuron model with state-dependent impulsive effects are verified by circuit simulation. Finally, the conclusions of this paper are analyzed and summarized, and the effects of random factors on the electrophysiological activities of neuron are discussed by numerical simulation. S-DIGing: A Stochastic Gradient Tracking Algorithm for Distributed Optimization

In this article, we study convex optimization problems where agents of a network cooperatively minimize the global objective function which consists of multiple local objective functions. The intention of this work is to solve large-scale optimization problems where the local objective function is complicated, and numerous. Different from most of the existing works, the local objective function of each agent is presented as the average of finite instantaneous functions. Integrating the gradient tracking algorithm with stochastic averaging gradient technology, a distributed stochastic gradient tracking (termed as S-DIGing) algorithm is proposed. At each time instant, only one randomly selected gradient of an instantaneous function is computed, and applied to approximate the local batch gradient for each agent. Based on a novel primal-dual interpretation of the S-DIGing algorithm, it is shown that the S-DIGing algorithm linearly converges to the global optimal solution when step-size do not exceed an explicit upper bound, and the instantaneous functions are strongly convex with Lipschitz continuous gradients. Numerical experiments are presented to demonstrate the practicability of the S-DIGing algorithm, and correctness of the theoretical results.

Recurrent neural network for combined economic and emission dispatch

Recently, the combined economic and emission dispatch (CEED) problem, which aims to simultaneously decrease fuel cost and reduce environmental emissions of power systems, has been a widespread concern. To improve the utilization efficiency of primary energy, combined heat and power (CHP) units are likely to play an important role in the future. The goal of this study is to propose an approach to solve the CEED problems in a CHP system which consists of eight power generators (PGs), two CHP units and one heat only unit. Owing to the existence of power loss in power transmission line and the non-convex feasible region of CHP units, the proposed problem is a nonlinear, multi-constraints, non-convex multi-objectives (MO) optimization problem. To deal with it, a recurrent neural network (RNN) combined with a novel technique is developed. It means that the feasible region is separated into two convex regions by using two binary variables to search for different regions. In the frame of the neurodynamic optimization, existence and convergence of the dynamic model are analyzed. It shows that the convergence solution obtained by RNN is the optimal solution of CEED problem. Numerical simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can generate solutions efficiently.

Autonomic Nervous Pattern of Motion Interference in Real-Time Anxiety Detection

Anxiety is a kind of extremely negative emotion, and long-term anxiety is the cause of many serious physical and mental diseases. In daily life, real-time and accurate detection of anxiety state is conducive to block the physical and mental hazards of anxiety timely. Anxiety detection based on autonomic nervous patterns has achieved high-detection precision in certain scenes. However, motion interferes with anxiety detection in arbitrary scenes of daily life, leading to the false report of anxiety. This paper designed four different intensities of motions to analyze the autonomic nervous activity of typical motion states, found out the motion states with similar autonomic nervous patterns to the anxiety status, and identified the motion interference that would cause false detection of anxiety state. A multi-modal real-time anxiety detection system was built in this paper. The ability of the above system to detect motion interference and exclude false anxiety status was validated both in the laboratory and in real life scenarios.

Fat-tree-based optical networks-on-chip with WDM: crosstalk noise exploiting

Wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) technology as an extension of optical networks-on-chip (ONoCs) performance, can be applied to further overcome shortages of low bandwidth and high-power consumption in multiprocessor systems-on-chip. Nevertheless, WDM-based ONoCs (ONoCs_W) can encounter performance degradation and network scalability constraints because of its power loss and intrinsic crosstalk noise, especially the non-linear four-wave mixing crosstalk noise. Here, a formal systematical exploiting for worst-case crosstalk noise and optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR) in arbitrary fat-tree-based ONoCs with WDM (FONoCs_W) is proposed. Meanwhile, the worst-case OSNR optical link candidates are identified. To verify the proposed analysis method, FONoCs_W employing an optical turnaround router with WDM (WOTAR) is used for case study. The study results demonstrate that crosstalk noise significantly diminishes OSNR and restricts scalability of FONoCs_W. For instance, when input optical signal power equals 0 dBm in worst case, the average OSNR is -9.47 dB, the mean power of crosstalk noise for eight wavelengths is slightly greater than that of signal when the number of processor cores is 64;when it equals to 128, the average OSNR is -34.37 dB, decreased by 24.90 dB compared with the network with 64 processor cores.

Convergence Analysis of a Fixed Point Algorithm Under Maximum Complex Correntropy Criterion

With the emergence of complex correntropy, the maximum complex correntropy criterion (MCCC) has been applied to the complex-domain adaptive filtering. The MCCC uses the fixed point method to find the optimal solution, which provides good robustness in the non-Gaussian noise environment, especially for the impulse noise. However, the convergence analysis for the fixed point method is limited to the real-domain filtering. In this letter, we provide the convergence analysis of fixed point based MCCC algorithm in complex-domain filtering. First, by using the matrix inversion lemma, we rewrite the MCCC algorithm to a gradient-like version. In addition, we provide two computationally efficient versions of MCCC. Then, we provide the stability analysis and obtain the excess mean square error for MCCC. Finally, simulation results confirm the correctness of the convergence analysis in this letter.

Discrete Analogue for a Class of Impulsive Cohen-Grossberg Neural Networks with Asynchronous Time-Varying Delays

This paper presents the exponential stability preservation in simulations of an impulsive Cohen-Grossberg neural networks with asynchronous time delays. By semi-discrete technique and impulsive maps as discrete representations of the nonlinear impulsive networks, difference equations formulated is obtained. And developing a new delay impulsive discrete time differential inequality, several sufficient conditions are derived to guarantee the global exponential stability in Lagrange sense and exponential convergence in Lyapunov sense of the discussed discrete time delayed Cohen-Grossberg system. It is show that the discrete time technique can preserve the equilibrium point of the continuous time model. Finally, one numerical example with simulation shows the effectiveness of the obtained results.

Leader-following consensus of nonlinear discrete-time multi-agent systems with limited bandwidth and switching topologies

This paper considers the leader-following consensus problem of discrete-time nonlinear multi-agent systems over switching topologies with limited bandwidth. Through the encoding-decoding data, we design a distributed feedback control protocol which is closely associated with the connectivity of relevant channel at each time step. An adaptive communication mechanism is presented to ensure fewer bits of information transmission at each time step under the premise that the quantizer for encoding and decoding is not saturated. Although the nonlinear model over switching topologies introduces a cumulative error with respect to consensus error at previous time steps, the convergence rate of the system can be characterized. Through a rigorous convergence analysis, we illustrate that if the jointly connected condition of communication networks is satisfied, consensus issues will be resolved. A numerical simulation example shows that based on the designed distributed control law, all states of the follower agents are ultimately the same as the leader's state. (C) 2019 ISA. Mixture Complex Correntropy for Adaptive Filter

With the development of adaptive filtering theory and its application, the research on complex domain has attracted more attention. As a measure of local similarity, complex correntropy has been applied to adaptive filtering in the complex domain. The choice of kernel function plays a very important role in the performance of corresponding algorithms. Generally, Gaussian function is used as the kernel function since it has some attractive properties, e.g., positive definiteness and convexity. However, Gaussian function is not always the best choice. In order to further improve the performance of adaptive filtering algorithm in the complex domain, this brief employs the mixture Gaussian function as the kernel function, and proposes a new fixed point algorithm based on the maximum mixture complex correntropy criterion (MMCCC). In addition, we derive the excess mean square error of the proposed fixed point algorithm for theoretical analysis. Simulation results illustrate the superiority of the MMCCC algorithm and the correctness of the theoretical analysis in this brief.

Electric-field enhancement of molecularly imprinted sol-gel-coated Au nano-urchin sensors for vapor detection of plant biomarkers

Detection of plant volatile organic compounds (VOCs) provides a new approach for real-time, on-field crop growth monitoring in agriculture. Gold (Au) nano-urchins with branched tips were synthesized and deposited on glass slides with controlled densities to generate enhanced electronic hot spots. The refractive index (RI) sensing capability of the slides was investigated as a function of nano-urchin density. A molecularly imprinted sol-gel (MISG) solution was spin-coated on the slide having the optimum RI sensing capability to form the MISG@Au nano-urchin sensors. Four MISGs were developed for the detection of typical plant biomarker VOCs: cis-jasmone, limonene, alpha-pinene, and gamma-terpinene. The normalized response indicated that selectivity of the MISG@Au nano-urchin sensors to the corresponding template terpenes was generated. According to the principal component analysis (PCA), both of the peaks in the absorption spectrum took necessary effects on terpene detection and discrimination, which was attributed to the hot spots generated by the Au nano-urchins and their coupling effects.
