Facial micro-expressions (MEs) recognition has attracted much attention recently. However, because MEs are spontaneous, subtle and transient, recognizing MEs is a challenge task. In this paper, first, we use transfer learning to apply learning-based video motion magnification to magnify MEs and extract the shape information, aiming to solve the problem of the low muscle movement intensity of MEs. Then, we design a novel graph-temporal convolutional network (Graph-TCN) to extract the features of the local muscle movements of MEs. First, we define a graph structure based on the facial landmarks. Second, the Graph-TCN deals with the graph structure in dual channels with a TCN block. One channel is for node feature extraction, and the other one is for edge feature extraction. Last, the edges and nodes are fused for classification. The Graph-TCN can automatically train the graph representation to distinguish MEs while not using a hand-crafted graph representation. To the best of our knowledge, we are the first to use the learning-based video motion magnification method to extract the features of shape representations from the intermediate layer while magnifying MEs. Furthermore, we are also the first to use deep learning to automatically train the graph representation for MEs.

In wireless sensor networks, the dynamic network topology and the limitation of communication resources may lead to degradation of the estimation performance of distributed algorithms. To solve this problem, we propose an event-triggered adaptive partial diffusion least mean-square algorithm (ET-APDLMS). On the one hand, the adaptive partial diffusion strategy adapts to the dynamic topology of the network while ensuring the estimation performance. On the other hand, the event-triggered mechanism can effectively reduce the data redundancy and save the communication resources of the network. The communication cost analysis of the ET-APDLMS algorithm is given in the performance analysis. The theoretical results prove that the algorithm is asymptotically unbiased, and it converges in the mean sense and the mean-square sense. In the simulation, we compare the mean-square deviation performance of the ET-APDLMS algorithm and other different diffusion algorithms. The simulation results are consistent with the performance analysis, which verifies the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

2D van der Waals (vdW) layered semiconductor vertical heterostructures with controllable band alignment are highly desired for nanodevice applications including photodetection and photovoltaics. However, current 2D vdW heterostructures are mainly obtained via mechanical exfoliation and stacking process, intrinsically limiting the yield and reproducibility, hardly achieving large-area with specific orientation. Here, large-area vdW-epitaxial SnSe2/SnSe heterostructures are obtained by annealing layered SnSe. These in situ Raman analyses reveal the optimized annealing conditions for the phase transition of SnSe to SnSe2. The spherical aberration-corrected transmission electron microscopy investigations demonstrate that layered SnSe2 epitaxially forms on SnSe surface with atomically sharp interface and specific orientation. Optical characterizations and theoretical calculations reveal valley polarization of the heterostructures that originate from SnSe, suggesting a naturally adjustable band alignment between type-II and type-III, only relying on the polarization angle of incident lights. This work not only offers a unique and accessible approach to obtaining large-area SnSe2/SnSe heterostructures with new insight into the formation mechanism of vdW heterostructures, but also opens the intriguing optical applications based on valleytronic nanoheterostructures.

EA-HUFIM: Optimization for Fuzzy-Based High-Utility Itemsets Mining

High-utility itemsets mining (HUIM) has attracted considerable attention due to its superior performance in discovering the profitable itemsets from databases. Generally, an itemset is discovered as a high-utility itemset (HUI) by HUIM only if its utility (such as profit) is higher than a predefined utility threshold. The previous HUIM methods cannot address the sharp boundary problem and the efficiency problem simultaneously. To tackle the above problems, we take the attempt to combine the fuzzy set theory and the evolutionary algorithms (EAs) in the HUIM method, which is called EA-HUFIM. For the proposed EA-HUFIM, it is challenging to design an appropriate EA and a suitable fitness function. Therefore, we focus on analyzing the characteristics of fuzzy-based HUI (i.e., HUFI) and present a theorem and a lemma based on a new concept, the high database-max utility fuzzy itemsets (HDFIs). The fitness function adopted in the EA-HUFIM method is inspired by the proposed lemma. Besides, we present a general EA framework with considering the elite learning strategy. The top K 1-HUFIs and top K 1-HDFIs are stored as an elite archive for further offspring production. To improve efficiency, we further employ a fuzzy map and a transaction map to propose a novel preprocessing method, and thus, the computational costs can be reduced. Experiments on several datasets and the results demonstrate that the EA-HUFIM method is effective in quantitative databases.

For application of triboelectric nanogenerators (TENG), it is essential to design TENG with high energy con-version efficiency, and it is one of the crucial parts to obtain TENG designs with optimal output impedance to match with that of application systems. Current design processes are incapable of optimizing TENGs with complex structures effectively, which greatly prolongs the research and development process and hinders application of TENGs. Here, a universal computer aided design automation is proposed to generate the structural and material design of TENG for optimal power output under designated matching resistance. A semi-analytical method and a non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm (NSGA-II) are used for the design automation. For demonstration, design automation for freestanding rotational TENG (FR-TENG) is carried out. An acceleration factor of up to-900 is obtained with systematical simulation acceleration. A group of designs with optimal powers and matching resistances are obtained, from which different input impedances of power management units can be obtained for applications. For verification, a FR-TENG with an optimal average output power over 88 mW is designed and fabricated, the output impedance is intentionally chosen from pareto-optimal front to match the input impedance of the subsequent power management unit. This is used to develop a fully self-powered wireless humidity/temperature/ultraviolet environmental monitoring system. This system can transmit the sensing information every -7 s and display on a remote terminal, validating the effectiveness of the proposed design automation method.

Adaptive clustering based on element-wised distance for distributed estimation over multi-task networks

In multitask networks, neighboring agents that belong to different clusters pursue different goals, and therefore arbitrary cooperation will lead to a degradation in estimation performance. In this paper, an adaptive clustering method is proposed for distributed estimation that enables agents to distinguish between subneighbors that belong to the same cluster and those that belong to a different cluster. This creates an appropriate degree of cooperation to improve parameter estimation accuracy, especially for the case where the prior information of a cluster is unknown. In contrast to the static and quantitative threshold that is imposed in traditional clustering methods, we devise a method for real-time clustering hypothesis detection, which is constructed through the use of a reliable adaptive clustering threshold as reference and the averaged element-wise distance between tasks as real-time clustering detection statistic. Meanwhile, we relax the clustering conditions to maintain maximum cooperation without sacrificing accuracy. Simulations are presented to compare the proposed algorithm and some traditional clustering strategies in both stationary and nonstationary environments. The effects of task difference on performance are also obtained to demonstrate the superiority of our proposed clustering strategy in terms of accuracy, robustness, and suitability.

As ferroelectric materials, lithium tantalate and lithium niobate share similar material characteristics, such as a high Pockels effect and nonlinear optical coefficients. When compared to lithium niobate, lithium tantalate offers a higher optical damage threshold, a broader transparent window, and lower birefringence, making it a promising candidate for high-performance electro-optical photonic integrated devices. In this study, we design and successfully fabricate micro-ring resonators on an acoustic-grade lithium-tantalate-on-insulator wafer, demonstrating their tunability and dynamic modulation capabilities. Experimental results indicate that the achieved thin-film lithium tantalate based micro-ring resonator exhibits an intrinsic Q-factor of 8.4 x 10(5), corresponding to a waveguide propagation loss of 0.47 dB/cm and a tuning efficiency of 1.94 pm/V. More importantly, as compared to those based on thin-film lithium niobate, a much weaker photorefractive effect and drift phenomenon around the 1550 nm wavelength under a direct-current drive are observed in the present fabricated thin-film lithium tantalate micro-rings with a silicon oxide over-cladding and a tuning electrode on top.

In this paper, we investigate cooperative and noncooperative three transboundary pollution problems in Three Gorges Reservoir Area where emission permits trading and abatement costs under learning by doing are considered. The abatement cost depends on two key factors: the level of pollution abatement and the experience of using pollution abatement technology. We use the optimal control theory to study the optimal emission paths and the optimal pollution abatement strategies under cooperative and noncooperative three transboundary pollution problems, respectively. By using the actual economic data of Wanzhou District, Kaizhou District and Yunyang County, we obtain the abatement level and the pollution stock of cooperative and noncooperative three transboundary pollution problems based on the four order Runge-Kutta method. We also discuss the influence of the change of parameter mu(i) (i = 1,2) for the abatement level and the pollution stock.

Gallium oxide (Ga2O3) 2 O 3 ) with a wide bandgap is emerging as one of the most promising candidates for solar-blind photodetectors (SBPDs). However, the practical application of Ga2O3-based 2 O 3-based SBPDs is impeded by substantial defects-related leakage currents, sluggish response speed, and high-cost, making their practical applications face great challenges. Here, we proposed strategic films growth regulation and surface state engineering to grow highquality yet economical (3-Ga2O3 2 O 3 films, thereby achieving high-performance SBPDs. High-resolution transmission electron microscopy revealed the presence of high-quality films with an extremely regular arrangement of (3-Ga2O3 2 O 3 (201) planes. The full width at half maximum and root mean square roughness values are 0.07 degrees degrees and 0.716 nm, respectively. The (3-Ga2O3 2 O 3 films demonstrated a significant reduction in VO O concentrations after O2/N2 2 /N 2 plasma treatment. This process can effectively minimize thermal damage to the sample surface while retaining highly reactive free radicals. The photocurrents of devices can be further enhanced, leading to a larger PDCRs of 8.6 x 107, 7 , through N2 2 plasma treatment. Moreover, the films effectually suppress the persistent photoconductivity effect with tau r r and tau d d values of 5.31/0.97 s and 0.49/0.87 s before and after N2 2 plasma treatment, respectively. We have demonstrated the influence mechanism of O2/N2 2 /N 2 plasma treatment on photoelectronic performance. This study provides a practical approach to growing high-quality (3-Ga2O3 2 O 3 films and preparing highperformance but low-cost Ga2O3-based 2 O 3-based SBPDs.

Enhanced Magnetoimpedance Effect in Co-Based Micron Composite CoFeNiSiB Ribbon Strips Coated by Carbon and FeCoGa Nanofilms for Sensing Applications

Quenched Co-based ribbon strips are widely used in the fields of magnetic amplifier, magnetic head material, magnetic shield, electric reactor, inductance core, sensor core, anti-theft system label, and so on. In this study, Co-based composite CoFeNiSiB ribbon strips with a micron width were fabricated by micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS) technology. The carbon and FeCoGa nanofilms were deposited for surface modification. The effect of carbon and FeCoGa nanofilm coatings on the crystal structure, surface morphology, magnetic properties, and magnetoimpedance (MI) effect of composite ribbon strips were systematically investigated. The results show that the surface roughness and coercivity of the composite ribbon strips are minimum at a thickness of the carbon coating of 60 nm. The maximum value of MI effect is 41% at 2 MHz, which is approximately 2.4 times greater than plain ribbon and 1.6 times greater than FeCoGa-coated composite ribbon strip. The addition of a carbon layer provides a conductive path for high frequency currents, which effectively reduces the characteristic frequency of the composite ribbon strip. The FeCoGa coating is able to close the flux path and reduce the coercivity, which, in turn, increases the transverse permeability and improves the MI effect. The findings indicate that a successful combination of carbon layer and magnetostrictive FeCoGa nanofilm layer can improve the MI effect and magnetic field sensitivity of the ribbon strips, demonstrating the potential of the composite strips for local and micro area field sensing applications.
