Energy-efficient computation offloading and resource allocation for delay-sensitive mobile edge computing

Mobile edge computing is an emerging computing paradigm to augment computational capabilities of mobile devices by offloading computation-intensive tasks from resource-constrained smart mobile device onto edge clouds nearby with potential computation capability. However, in general, edge clouds have limited computation resource and energy. Thus it is critical to achieve high energy efficiency while ensuring satisfactory user experience. In this paper, we first formulate the computation offloading problem into the system energy-efficiency cost minimization problem by taking into account the completion time and energy. Then, by solving the optimization problem, we propose a distributed algorithm consisting of clock frequency configuration, transmission power allocation, channel rate scheduling and offloading strategy selection. In this algorithm, the clock frequency for local execution and the transmission power in edge cloud execution are optimized jointly. Furthermore, to optimize the queue delay, we formulate an M/M/n queue model with individual capacity between different windows and propose an algorithm for optimal task offloading rate. Finally, the experimental results show that our algorithm can achieve energy-efficient offloading performance compared to other existing algorithms. (C) 2019 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

Dynamic time-delayed feedback control of Westwood plus TCP flow control model with communication delay

In this article, we consider the problem of Hopf bifurcation control in a second-order Westwood+ TCP flow control model. First, we propose a dynamic time-delayed state feedback controller to delay the onset of undesirable Hopf bifurcation. Moreover, we show that the Westwood+ TCP model with time-delayed state feedback can maintain a stationary state on a certain domain in the delay parameter space. In particular, by the dynamic time-delayed feedback controller, a suitable Hopf bifurcation is created at a desired location with preferred properties. Furthermore, we analyse the dynamic behaviour of the rightmost characteristic root of the proposed controlled time-delayed systems via Lambert W function. In addition, by the Hopf bifurcation analysis, we show that with the proposed controller, one can increase the allowable critical value of the communication delay, and postpone the onset of the undesired Hopf bifurcation by successfully controlling unstable steady states or periodic orbits. Finally, we justify by numerical results the validity of the time-delayed state feedback controller in Hopf bifurcation control.

A fast and efficient approach to color-image encryption based on compressive sensing and fractional Fourier transform

This paper introduces a novel method of fast and efficient measurement matrices and random phase masks for color image encryption, in which Kronecker product (KP) is combined with chaotic map. The encryption scheme is based on two-dimension (2D) compressive sensing (CS) and fraction Fourier transform (FrFT). In this algorithm, the KP is employed to extend low dimension seed matrices to obtain high dimension measurement matrices and random phase masks. The low dimension seed matrices are generated by controlling chaotic map. The original image is simultaneously encrypted and compressed by the 2D CS, then re-encrypted with FrFT. The proposed encryption scheme fulfills high speed, low complexity and high security. Numerical simulation results demonstrate the excellent performance and security of the proposed scheme.

A novel pseudo-random number generator from coupled map lattice with time-varying delay

Chaos has been widely combined with cryptography in the field of information security, especially, a considerable amount of studies of generating pseudo-random numbers based on chaotic systems have been proposed in recent decades. However, many of them are easy to be attacked via utilizing the nonlinear prediction method based on phase space reconstruction and other analysis. Furthermore, under the finite precision environment of computer simulation, there does not exist a random sequence which is truly non-periodic. Unfortunately, few researches had made a related analysis on the above two discussions. This paper is devoted to designing a pseudo-random number generator based on coupled map lattice with time-varying delay, analyzing the random properties of the generated pseudo-random numbers and discussing the dynamical degradation of the system under finite precision of computer simulation. The proposed scheme merely depends on the determining equation;thus, the algorithm itself is not complex, which does not impose high demand on computer hardware and its efficiency is excellent. In order to meet the requirements of using the proposed pseudo-random number generator in cryptography and other practical engineering applications, the proposed pseudo-random number generator is subjected to statistical tests utilizing the well-known test suites, such as NISTSP800-22 and TestU01. Moreover, other related properties, such as permutation entropy, invariant distribution, degradation of dynamical characteristics and parameter test, are also investigated. All results illustrate that the new pseudo-random number generator can generate a high percentage of available pseudo-random numbers for scientific computer simulation and practical applications in the field of information security.

Image encryption using 2D Henon-Sine map and DNA approach

Chaotic systems have been widely applied in digital image encryption due to their complex properties such as ergodicity, pseudo randomness and extreme sensitivity to their initial values and parameters. This paper first proposes a two-dimensional Henon-Sine map (2D-HSM). The new map possesses better ergodicity and pseudo randomness, and its parameters have a wider chaotic range, compared with many existing chaotic systems. Then a DNA encoding and a DNA exclusive-or (XOR) operation rule are defined because DNA approach applying in image encryption can greatly improve the efficiency of image permutation and diffusion. Furthermore, a novel image encryption scheme whose image pixels are diffused by the DNA approach and permutated by 2D-HSM, is proposed to protect image content while an image is transferred over the Internet. Some experimental analyses such as statistical attack analysis, differential attack analysis, exhaustive attack analysis, robustness against noise and computational complexity have been applied to measure the new scheme, and the experimental results illustrate the scheme possesses better encryption performances than that of other references, and therefore, is secure in real-world communication. A novel scheme for simultaneous image compression and encryption based on wavelet packet transform and multi-chaotic systems

This paper presents a new scheme for simultaneous image compression and encryption. First, the approach of wavelet packet transform is used to decompose an image. Herein, the image is divided into four different types and self-adaptive approaches are designed to process the four signals. Second, a fleeting image encryption algorithm based on multi-chaotic systems is proposed to protect the security of the image. The above method not only balances the compression ratio and reconstruction quality, but also greatly improves the encryption speed and transmission security of the image. More importantly, the proposed scheme solves a long-standing contradiction that a signal should be first compressed or encrypted, which often appears in traditional image compression and encryption systems. Computer simulations and numerical analysis validate that the proposed scheme possesses superior security, high efficiency and promising practical value for images encryption and transmission.

Stealthy attack detection and solution strategy for consensus-based distributed economic dispatch problem

Distributed system is efficient and scalable in modern power grid. However, a distributed system is so susceptible to attack. In this paper, we formulate consensus-based distributed economic problem under attacks, and the convergence of the algorithm under a realizable and general stealthy attack is proved. Then the expression of the convergence point is also provided. Furthermore, a strategy based on a defined observation network is proposed to detect whether the system is attacked by the false data injection to broadcast information. Consequently, the misbehaving agents are detected and removed, and the other agents can reach the optimal point under new optimal objective, the incremental cost and total generation cost can be decreased. The simulation studies not only validate the theoretical results but also show the effectiveness of proposed strategy.

Second-order consensus of discrete-time multi-agent systems in directed networks with nonlinear dynamics via impulsive protocols

In this paper, we discuss the second-order consensus problem of discrete-time multi-agent systems with fixed and switching topology. Impulsive protocols are introduced for such multi-agent systems with non-linear dynamics. The consensus problem of multi-agent systems is analyzed by algebraic graph theory and matrix theory, where a connection of impulsive control methods and network topologies is established. Our main results indicate that the second-order consensus of multi-agent systems can be achieved if the graphs of the topology are balanced and strongly connected under suitable conditions. Numerical simulations are presented to support the theoretical results. (C) 2018 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Convolution Kernel Operations on a Two-Dimensional Spin Memristor Cross Array

In recent years, convolution operations often consume a lot of time and energy in deep learning algorithms, and convolution is usually used to remove noise or extract the edges of an image. However, under data-intensive conditions, frequent operations of the above algorithms will cause a significant memory/communication burden to the computing system. This paper proposes a circuit based on spin memristor cross array to solve the problems mentioned above. First, a logic switch based on spin memristors is proposed, which realizes the control of the memristor cross array. Secondly, a new type of spin memristor cross array and peripheral circuits is proposed, which realizes the multiplication and addition operation in the convolution operation and significantly alleviates the computational memory bottleneck. At last, the color image filtering and edge extraction simulation are carried out. By calculating the peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) and structural similarity (SSIM) of the image result, the processing effects of different operators are compared, and the correctness of the circuit is verified.

A new color image encryption scheme based on logistic map over the finite field Z_N

In recent years, various image encryption algorithms based on chaotic systems have been proposed where the chaotic maps always work over the real domain. However, the traditional chaotic map over the real domain has a disadvantage, i.e., the calculation complexity of the floating point number can be doubled when implementing the map in computer. This leads to a greatly serious drawback for practical application. To overcome this problem effectively, in this paper, we generalize the chaotic Logistic map to the finite field, and find that there exists an automorphic mapping between two Logistic maps with the different control parameters over the finite field Z(N). Moreover, we adopt the sequences generated by the automorphic mapping to design a color image encryption scheme and do simulation experiments. Security and performance analyzes also show that the proposed scheme has very good properties which provide a strong guarantee for the algorithm efficiency. Therefore, the proposed scheme is feasible for implementing image and data encryption.
