Distributed event-triggered control of discrete-time heterogeneous multi-agent systems

This paper investigates the consensus problem for a set of discrete-time heterogeneous multi-agent systems composed of two kinds of agents differed by their dynamics. The consensus control is designed based on the event-triggered communication scheme, which can lead to a significant reduction of the information communication burden in the multi-agent network. Meanwhile, only the communication between the agent and its local neighbors is needed, therefore, the designed control is essentially distributed. Based on the Lyapunov functional method and the Kronecker product technique, a sufficient condition is obtained to guarantee the consensus of heterogeneous multi-agent systems in terms of linear matrix inequality (LMI). Adaptive cluster synchronisation of coupled harmonic oscillators with multiple leaders

In this study, the authors investigate the cluster synchronisation of coupled harmonic oscillators with multiple leaders in an undirected fixed network. Unlike many existing algorithms for cluster synchronisation of complex dynamical networks or group consensus of multi-agent systems, which require global information of the underlying network such as eigenvalues of the coupling matrix or centralised control protocols, we propose a novel decentralised adaptive cluster synchronisation protocol for coupled harmonic oscillators. By using the decentralised adaptive cluster synchronisation protocol and without using any global information of the underlying network, all oscillators in the same group asymptotically synchronise with the corresponding leader even when only one oscillator in each group has access to the information of the corresponding leader. Numerical simulation results are presented to illustrate the theoretical results.

Evolutionary crew scheduling with adaptive chromosomes

This paper presents an adaptive evolutionary approach incorporating a hybrid genetic algorithm (GA) for public transport crew scheduling problems, which are well-known to be NP-hard. To ensure the search efficiency, a suitable chromosome representation has to be determined first. Unlike a canonical GA for crew scheduling where the chromosome length is fixed, the chromosome length in the proposed approach may vary adaptively during the iterative process, and its initial value is elaborately designated as the lower bound of the number of shifts to be used in an unachievable optimal solution. Next, the hybrid GA with such a short chromosome length is employed to find a feasible schedule. During the GA process, the adaptation on chromosome lengths is achieved by genetic operations of crossover and mutation with removal and replenishment strategies aided by a simple greedy algorithm. If a feasible schedule cannot be found when the GA's termination condition is met, the GA will restart with one more gene added. The above process is repeated until a feasible solution is found. Computational experiments based on 11 real-world crew scheduling problems in China show that, compared to a fuzzy GA known to be well performed for crew scheduling, better solutions are found for all the testing problems. Moreover, the algorithm works fast, has achieved results close to the lower bounds obtained by a standard linear programming solver in terms of the number of shifts, and has much potential for future developments. A new method to calculate the corridor of Reentry Launch Vehicles is proposed, based on their dynamic properties. The upper boundary of the corridor can be calculated by the skipping trajectories from the lower boundary of the corridor. By combination with a specific kinematic equations and a numerical simulation, the reliability and optimality of the method is analyzed. The results also show that the traditional reentry corridor estimated by quasi-equilibrium gliding conditions has its conservativeness, the reentry corridor that the new method calculated can better reflect the RLV's maneuvers abilities. Moreover, compared to the general methods, the direct and indirect methods to calculate the corridor, which are usually used to solve optimization problems, the proposed method has a smaller amount of calculation, shorter calculation time, stronger convergence, thus has stronger practicability.

This study considers robust H-infinity filtering for discrete system with uncertain multiple missing measurements and probabilistic non-linearities. The measurement missing rate is assumed to be known with uncertainties and the non-linearities' variation information between different bounds is utilised to build new type of non-linearity model. Employing these new characteristics, new filtering error dynamics with time delay and uncertainties are proposed. By using Lyapunov functional approach, sufficient conditions on the H-infinity performance analysis are obtained, and the desired filter parameters can also be obtained by solving certain linear matrix inequalities. Finally, an example is proposed to show the effectiveness of the proposed model and design procedures.

The global stability of non-linear dynamical systems has been investigated extensively in recent decades. It is well known that time delay and neutral term could derail the stability of non-linear systems. This study presents new results on the robustness of the global exponential stability of non-linear systems with respect to time delay and neutral term. Given globally exponentially stable non-linear systems, the problems to be addressed herein are how much time delay and neutral term contraction coefficient are allowed so that the non-linear systems can remain to be globally exponentially stable, in the presence of time delay and neutral term. Upper bounds of allowable time delay and neutral term contraction coefficient will be derived for non-linear systems to sustain their global exponential stability. A numerical example is provided to illustrate the results.

Randic et al. proposed a famous compact graphical representation for visualizing and analyzing DNA sequences. However, it has a disadvantage that observers can not know the composition of DNA sequences except recoding the binary representation from start point. In this paper, we improve randic's model with a new representation Worm Step. Worm Step has several advantages: (1) avoids degeneracy, (2) avoids loss of information, (3) highly compact, and (4) observers can immediately grasp the information about DNA base composition. Applications of Worm Step on similarity analysis and phylogenetic tree study also are presented.

This paper is concerned with the modeling and the control of networked control systems (NCSs) with stochastic packet dropout. In order to facilitate the technical description, network-induced time delay is assumed to be ignorable. The closed-loop NCS with stochastic packet dropout is modeled as a continuous-time system with time-varying delays and stochastic parameters. By utilizing the Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional method, the integral inequality lemma and the Gronwall-Bellman lemma, a less conservative criterion for exponential mean-square stability of NCS with stochastic packet dropout is presented in the form of nonlinear matrix inequalities. Meanwhile, the state feedback gain matrix is provided based on solving a linear matrix inequality (LMI). Moreover, the state feedback gain matrix is obtained by solving a linear matrix inequality (LMI). Based on the solvability of this LMI, the allowable upper bound of continuous packet dropouts is determined, from which the maximum allowable time interval (MATI) can also be derived. Finally, a numerical example is given to demonstrate the effectiveness of our results.

Factor analysis is a powerful tool used for the analysis of dynamic studies. One of the major drawbacks of Factor Analysis of Dynamic Structures (FADS) is that the solution is not mathematically unique when only non-negativity constraints are used to determine factors and factor coefficients. In this paper, we introduce a novel method to correct FADS solutions by constructing and minimizing a new objective function. The method is improved from non-negative matrix factorizations (NMFs) algorithm by adding a sparse constraint that penalizes multiple components in the images of the factor coefficients. The technique is tested on computer simulations, and a patient ultrasound liver study. The results show that the method works well in comparison to the truth in computer simulations and to region of interest (ROI) measurements in the experimental studies. (C) 2013 Elsevier GmbH.
