Hammerstein models are popular in describing nonlinear chemical processes. The general control strategy for Hammerstein models is the nonlinearity inversion method, which is unfortunately inapplicable to Hammerstein systems with input multiplicity. To overcome this difficulty, a Multi-PID control approach is proposed. Thus, a complex control problem is solved by a conventional and easy control strategy. A Heat Exchanger process is simulated to demonstrate the effectiveness of the Multi-PID control approach. © 2011 Chinese Assoc of Automati.

Carbon fibers are attractive substrates to be used for designing flexible and weavable devices. In order to obtain some flexible chemical sensors or other nanodevices, surface treatment of carbon fiber was carried out with oxidation approach. Studies on preparation of some typical metal oxide or other inorganic functional film (such as, ZnO, NiO, CdS, et al) with different morphologies under hydrothermal reaction condition were examined. A series of characterizations were employed by scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), photoluminescence spectra (PL), et al. Results indicated that the ZnO film with porosity was uniformly formed on the surface of carbon fibers, and the uniformities of other films will be improved further by adjusting synthesis conditions.

For a class of nonlinear networked control system (NCS) with network-induced delay and packed dropout, which is influenced by external disturbance with limited energy in transmission, a T-S fuzzy model is employed to represent the nonlinear controlled plant. By using appreciate Lyapunov-Krasovskii function, a H ∞ integrality sufficient condition against actuator failures is derived based on delay-dependent approach, and the H ∞ fault-tolerant controller gain can be obtained via solving several linear matrix inequalities(LMIs). Because of the lower bound of the time-delay and free weighting matrixes are introduced, and the model transformation has not been used. Then a less conservative result is obtained. Finally, an example is used to illustrate the effectiveness and feasibility of proposed approach.

An optimal excitation controller based on the theory of linear optimal control is designed. TMS320LF2407 is used as its core unit. Taking advantage of the features of DSP such as high performance processing capabilities, plenty of peripherals on chip and high real-time control, man functions are realized such as rapid AC sampling, PID control algorithm, digital phase-shifted triggering and etc. The operating results show that the controller has higher control accuracy and better stability.

A new framework to design immersion and invariance adaptive controllers for nonlinearly parameterized, nonlinear systems was recently proposed by the authors. The key step is the construction of a monotone mapping, via a suitable selection of a controller tuning function, which has to satisfy some integrability conditions|this translates into the need to solve a partial differential equation (PDE). In this paper this result is extended providing some answers to the questions of characterization of "monotonizable" systems and solvability of the PDE. First, adding to the design a nonlinear dynamic scaling, we obviate the need to solve the PDE. Second, for the case of factorizable nonlinearities, the following results are established. (i) It is shown that the monotonicity condition is satisfied if a linear matrix inequality is feasible. (ii) Directly verifiable involutivity conditions that ensure the solution of the PDE are presented. (iii) An explicit formula for the required tuning function is given, provided the regressor matrix satisfies some rank conditions. Hence, adding a dynamic scaling, this yields a constructive solution to the problem. © 2011 IFAC.

The fear of the uncertain vapor-liquid-liquid hydrodynamics has guided process engineers away from a three-phase involvement, of which the most uncertain is the flow pattern of the second liquid phase. Hence, a first-principle model-based estimation strategy was proposed to identify the flow pattern in the three-phase distillation. Representative experiments were performed in a laboratory-sclae packed column, and the results were sampled as reference data for the estimation. A dynamic nonequilibrium (NEQ) model was built up to consider the inter-phase mass transfer rigorously. The resulting estimation problem was then discretized using the multiple-shooting method, to formulate a large-scale NLP problem with a finite number of decision variables. The estimated results reveal that the flow pattern of the second liquid has a close relationship with the liquid and gas loads, and it could play a critical role for the variation of the separation efficiency inside a three-phase column. In this paper, a discontinuous projection-based output feedback adaptive robust learning control (OARLC) scheme is constructed for a class of nonlinear systems in a semi-strict feedback form by incorporating an observer and a dynamic normalization signal. Since only output signal is available for measurement, an observer is firstly designed to provide exponentially convergent estimates of the unmeasurable states. Using certain known basis functions to capture the characteristics of unknown general periodic disturbances, the discontinuous projection type adaptation law can then be used to tune the amplitudes of those basis functions on-line to recover the unknown general periodic disturbances asymptotically. The estimation errors due to the unknown initial states, uncompensated disturbances, and the uncertain nonlinearities are also effectively dealt with via certain robust feedback at each step of the proposed OARLC backstepping design. The resulting controller achieves a guaranteed transient and a prescribed final tracking accuracy for output tracking performance. In addition, when the general periodic disturbances fall within the approximation ranges of the periodic basis functions, asymptotic output tracking performance is achieved as well. © 2011 IFAC.

The problem of robust H∞ guaranteed cost fault-tolerant control for a class of networked control system(NCS) with time-varying delay and packet dropout is investigated. A new model is employed to represent the linear controlled plant in the NCS, a sufficient condition for a robust H∞ guaranteed cost integrity design with failures of actuator or sensor is given in terms of a delay-dependent approach. And the design method of the optimal robust H∞ guaranteed cost fault-tolerant controllers is given with LMIs constraints. Moreover, a less conservative method is obtained due to the lower bound of the time-delay introduced in the model and appropriate free-weighting matrices introduced during the proof. A numerical example shows the effectiveness of the proposed method.

In an uncertain nonlinear networked control system(NNCS) with the influence on delay and packet loss, a robust fault-tolerant guaranteed controlled sufficient condition of system, which is delay-dependent approach, is deduced by constructing an appreciate Lyapunov-Krasovskii function based on T-S fused model. control gain can be obtained via iterative optimization algorithm of solving several nonlinear matrix inequalities(NLMI). In this paper, we consider the lower bound of the time-delay and do not make the model transformation, also free matrixes in integral inequalities ensure that the useful information is not be magnified and ignored. All of these obtain a less conservative result. Finally, an example is used to illustrate the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed approach.
