This paper applies Fresnel diffraction theory to analyze the phenomenon of multiple-beam interference in thin waveguides, and subsequently carries out simulation experiments. And further investigates the correlation between the angular deviation triggered by interference and the thickness of the waveguide. To be specific, the paper delves into the detailed analysis of this correlation, thus highlighting the significance of this research. © 2023 SPIE.

The photonic neural processing unit(PNPU)demonstrates ultrahigh inference speed with low energy consumption,and it has become a promising hardware artificial intelligence(AI)***,the nonidealities of the photonic device and the peripheral circuit make the practical application much more *** than optimizing the photonic device,the architecture,and the algorithm individually,a joint device-architecture-algorithm codesign method is proposed to improve the accuracy,efficiency and robustness of the ***,a full-flow simulator for the PNPU is developed from the back end simulator to the high-level training framework;Second,the full system architecture and the complete photonic chip design enable the simulator to closely model the real system;Third,the nonidealities of the photonic chip are evaluated for the PNPU *** average test accuracy exceeds 98%,and the computing power exceeds 100TOPS.

An in-fiber Mach-Zehnder interferometer is proposed for the discrimination of strain and *** sensor is based on two cascaded standard single mode fibers using three peanut tapers fabricated by simple *** cascaded structure excites more frequency components,which induce four sets of interference dips in the transmission *** set of the spectrum dips have different sensitivities to temperature and strain from those of the other *** sensor can discriminate strain and temperature by monitoring the wavelength shifts of two spectrum *** experiments are taken both for strain and temperature increasing and decreasing *** results show that Dip 1 has an average strain sensitivity of-0.911 pm/με and an average temperature sensitivity of 49.98pm/℃.The strain sensitivity for Dip 2 is negligible and its average temperature sensitivity is 60.52pm/℃.The strain and temperature resolutions are±3.82με and±0.33℃.

A Distributed Reception Based Method for Identifying Vortex Beams

After the vortex beam is transmitted in the space laser communication scene for hundreds of kilometers, the spot diameter will expand to several meters or even tens of meters, and the existing detection methods that require receiving the whole spot are no longer applicable. In order to address this problem, a distributed detection scheme is proposed in this paper for demultiplexing two L-G beams. We choose two specific points on the light spot to receive two optical signals. Then the two optical signals are interfered with a designed optical fiber path which use the cross-coupling of the coupler. Then the demultiplexing is achieved according to the interference results at two ports. The feasibility of this scheme is theoretically analyzed, and the demultiplexing of L-G beams with multiple combinations of topological charge numbers is realized. © 2024, The Authors. all rights reserved.

Modeling optimization design and amplification characteristics of O-band irregular Bragg bismuth-doped fiber amplifier

In recent years, O-band bismuth-doped fiber amplifier (BDFA) have been rapidly developed due to the fluorescence properties of bismuth-doped glass in the near-infrared (NIR) band, while there are still few studies on bismuth-doped fibers (BDF) with large mode fields as of now. In addition, although the use of a double-pass structure on the amplifier can lead to gain improvement, this also deteriorates the noise figure (NF). Therefore, the study of bismuth-doped fibers with large mode-field areas is a promising path to develop high-performance BDFA. In this work, taking a commercial bismuth-doped fiber as an instance, we first measured the refractive index distribution of the BDF in the O-band using a self-developed fiber refractive index tester, and thereby obtained its actual mode-field area. Then, based on this we further propose an irregular Bragg bismuth-doped fiber with the refractive index growing layer by layer. The results suggests that the effective mode-field area of this fiber reaches 401 um² at 1320 nm, which is nearly 5.8 times that of a common single-mode BDF. Finally, we performed numerical simulations of the amplification performance based on this fiber. Under the condition of total pumping power of 8 W, the signal with −20 dBm input power obtains a gain of more than 54 dB and an NF of less than 5 dB at 1320 nm wavelength. This work demonstrates the great potential of this Bragg bismuth-doped fiber as an O-band high-gain amplifier and high-power laser. © 2024 The Author(s)

We investigate the performance and complexity of minimum mean square error (MMSE) and alternating direction method of multipliers based infinity-norm (ADMIN) for mode dependent loss (MDL) impaired mode division multiplexing (MDM) systems. Our result shows the performance of ADMIN is better than that of MMSE in medium and small MDL. In QPSK modulation mode, the computational complexity of ADMIN detection algorithm is lower than that of MMSE. In addition, we studied how to continue to improve the performance of the ADMIN detection algorithm. We found that the increase of the ß parameter will significantly improve the performance of ADMIN in the MDL communication system without increasing the computational complexity. When the ß parameter is increased by 20 times, the BER performance changes from 10-4 to 10-5, which is an order of magnitude improvement. © 2022 SPIE.

This paper presents a dual broadband circularly polarized (CP) array antenna with shared aperture for C- and K-band application. First, the CP operation for C-band element is generated by four square ring patches which are fed by an unequal cross slot. Second, a CP magnetoelectric (ME) dipole antenna with one pair of horizontal patches connected is used as the main radiator for K-band. The coupling slot etched on the ground is modified as cross-shaped to enhance the CP bandwidth. Last, a C-band 2×2 array and K-band 4×4 array are interlaced together at a shared aperture. The simulated results show the proposed antenna exhibits a -10-dB impedance bandwidth of 16.5% and 3-dB AR bandwidth of 16.2% at C-band, while has a -10-dB impedance bandwidth of 52.4% and 3-dB AR bandwidth of 33.7% at K-band. © 2023 IEEE.

A novel photonic-assisted multifunctional radar is proposed for simultaneous measurement of the distance, velocity, and direction of the target. In this scheme, a dual-polarization binary phase shift keying (DP-BPSK) modulator is used to implement parallel de-chirping process of the echo signals received by two distributed receiving antennas. By applying a composite signal that combines a linear frequency modulated (LFM) signal and a single-frequency microwave signal as the transmitted signal, the distance, velocity, and direction of the target under test can be derived by analyzing the spectra of the de-chirped and beat signals. Simulation experiments are performed to verify the measurement capability and performance of the proposed scheme. The simulation results show that the error of the distance, velocity and direction measurement are less than ± 6×10-5m, ± 0.1 m/s and ± 0.2°, respectively. © 2023 IEEE.

In order to improve the performance of bit-interleaved polar coded MIMO systems (BI-PC-MIMO), we propose two optimized interleavers for BI-PC-MIMO with parallel antenna partition. One of the schemes is the generalized method of compound interleaver and the other one flips the bits twice before mapping them to the symbols with modulation scheme. The simulation results show that the proposed interleaving schemes can outperform the random interleaver with 0.25dB for 16QAM in some certain configurations. ©2021 IEEE
